| #1xinhaSep 29, 2008 11:32:42 | Hi! I want to build a spellcaster, a wizard level 10. The DM does not allow campaing setting related books ( excluding the cheesy incantatrix). Can you give some advice about race and prestige classes? I want my character to be as cheesy as possible, without going over the edge, like pun pun. Thanks |
| #2CantripNSep 29, 2008 11:38:07 | Would a Shadowcraft Mage suffice? |
| #3SenevriSep 29, 2008 11:59:28 | I don't think a plain PCM wil suffice. Shadowcraft is good. The key to power in-game is being more powerful for the level you're at than you're supposed to. something as simple as access to Summon Monster 2 at CL 3 suffices... for level 1. For level 10, empower will give you access to 15d6 damage, although it's around that point that damage loses meaning. Direct damage is at it's best for levels 1-6, with the exception of spells like grease, sleep and color spray. If you have a sufficient amount of spell slots so that you rarely run out, you do not need more spell slots. PrCs: Loremaster is okay, but not cheesy. Focused Specialist, Initiate of Seven-Fold Veil, both are considered good. Much depends on your play style. ...It looks like I got a bit excited. What I meant to say was "Read the posting guidelines, plz." That is, if they're still around after forum reorganization. |

| #6phaxiSep 29, 2008 16:13:27 | Uau! That´s really nice! Crazy killer gnome! That is correct, and yes, it would really help if you told us your character concept. |
| #7tshernSep 29, 2008 16:22:55 | Uau! That´s really nice! Crazy killer gnome! Wizard alone is cheesy. Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil is one of those immortality classes and properly built Anima Mage can rock the house too without too much trouble. Incantatrix is better than anything but the Planar Shepherd, but if you are really looking for the most cheesy Wizard prestige class and you've got no Incantatrix, Shadowcraft Mage is the avenue to pursue. Dweomerkeeper from the Complete Divine web enhancement is made of stupidity as well though, you might want to have a look at that. Another question: Incantatrix appears in how many books? I think its Magic of Faerun and Players Guide to Faerun Those are the only books that Incantatrix is featured in. |
| #8amazing_triangleSep 29, 2008 16:51:24 | Here are some things to read: Being Batman: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18500 Being GOD: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=956548 Wizard Handbook: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=881457 Generally if you ask for ideas the board is nicer to you if you have a "I want to be able to do this" kind of list. Saying "I want a cheesy wizard" is too vague. I want help with my wizard and post a skeleton - is generally more accepted. If you had searched the forum for Wizard the three threads above would have shown up along with the killer gnome thread. I am just saying it is good to read the board rules in this regard gets you better results. Happy reading! If you need more links PM me! |
| #9mdsummerSep 29, 2008 21:18:10 | A Focused Conjurer 3/Master Specialist 7 will become pretty awesome 3 levels on. Ability to cast a swift action Evard's Black Tentacles 3 times a day sounds just damn awesome. (Not to mention you can cast quite a lot of good conjurer spells). imo, getting your DM to allow half of Spell Compendium is more important than having a really good PrC/race. |

| #11will_shakespeareSep 30, 2008 9:53:09 | Hi there, i have to agree. If you want pure cheese, take the Shadowcraft Killer Gnome. If your DM likes / allows it. An Incantatrix or Dweomerkeeper build can bring massive power to the table, too. My character is this: Abjurer 2 / Master Specialist 7 / Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 5, becoming an Abjurer 2 / Master Specialist 7 / Initiate of the Sevenfold Veil 7 / Archmage 1 / Fatespinner 3. Nice to play and certainly has power. Precocious Apprentice (CArc, 181) will be needed to get into Master Specialist at level 3, so you'll have to speak with your DM about that. If your DM allows it and you can use the retraining rules from PHB II, go for it. Cheerio Will |
| #12SenevriSep 30, 2008 10:03:30 | Besides, a Shadowcraft Mage can make Shadow Cheese. If you heighten it to 9th level, it's 20% cheesier than actual cheese. That being said, not sure if they need a Shadow Miracle for it, since True Creation is the only spell capable of creating cheese. |
