I'm recreating a character for a campaign and I want to try my hand at a cleric archer. I have a good idea of the build I wanted to use and was just wondering what you all would suggest for stats, some feats and domains. Also I'm not sold on the race but I do need the elf domain for the free feat as this build is feat intensive.

The character is starting at 3rd level but I wanted the whole 20 lvl build so I would know exactly what to do.

Wood Elf
28 point buy
The DM doesn't allow BoED so he changed the requirements for Harper Paragon to Iron Will and Skill Focus Diplomacy. I was thinking about retraining Zen Archery at lvl 12 to get the feats for Harper Paragon but that would make me suck for 3 levels. Any help on this would be appreciate. I know I have a lot of PrCs but I really like the flavor of this char.

1 Cleric 1 - (Point Blank Shot (Elf Domain), Track (Flaw Bonus), Endurance)
2 Cl 2
3 Cl 3 - (Rapid Shot)
4 Cl 4
5 Cl 5
6 Cl 6 - (Zen Archery)
7 Cl 6/ Seeker of the Misty Isle 1
8 Cl 6/ SotMI 2
9 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ Prestige Ranger 1 - (Skill Focus Handle Animal)
10 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2
11 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ Contemplative 1
12 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ Beastmaster 1 - (Iron Will)
13 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ Harper Paragon 1
14 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 2
15 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 3 - (Skill Focus Diplomacy)
16 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 4
17 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 5
18 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 6 - (Natural Bond)
19 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 7
20 Cl 6/ SotMI 2/ PR 2/ C 1/ BM 1/ HP 8

You can buy Iron Will for 3,000 by using the Otygh Hole location in Complete Scoundrel. And I don't really see what Beastmaster is adding to the build. It looks like it is costing you a caster level and several feats for minimal benefit, to me.

And what is your base attack bonus going to look like? Don't several of those PrCs lose BAB? It looks like to me its going to wind up being something like +13 at the end, and you don't even have any way to Quicken or Persist Divine Power cheaply.

I was going to take a level of Beastmaster to pump up the animal companion to lvl 17... otherwise if I took a lvl in Harper initiative instead it would only be 14.

I should have mentioned that DMM Persist is banned as well as BoED and BoVD. What alternative would you suggest?

This party I am with isn't optimized so I don't see a problem with spending the first round of combat casting Divine Power although I do see the benefit.

Hmm... no DMM. Is the Incantatrix prestige class allowed? With enough boosts to Spellcraft, they can make tons of spells persistent for you. You could get an incantatrix cohort via Leadership, if noone else is playing one.

An anima mage can also persist a few spells per day for free, but adding enough levels of it to matter would totally change your build around.

If you can get Contingency on your spell list (Time domain, Magic domain with a staff, etc), you can use that to get off an extra buff for free. One standard action + 1 Quickened (the normal way) + 1 Contingent lets you get off three buffs at the beginning of combat while only wasting a single round on it. With a Belt of Battle, you won't lose any rounds at all, once per day.

i know you want to boost the Animal Companion as much as you can.... but it hurts the rest of the build.... better to do this:

Wood Elf
Ranger 2/ Cleric 8/ Harper Paragon 8/ Prestige Ranger 2
(not in that exact order)

BAB +16
17th Cleric abilities(20th Caster lvl with Practiced Caster)

Base Attributes (28pt buy)

10 Str(8 +2 racial)
16 Dex(14 +2 racial)
14 Con(16 -2 racial)
10 Int(12 -2 racial)
14 Wis(14)
10 Cha(10)

@20th lvl:
16 Str(8 +2 racial +6 Belt)
22 Dex(14 +2 racial +6 Belt)
20 Con(16 -2 racial +6 Belt)
16 Int(12 -2 racial +6 Belt)
30 Wis(14 +5 lvls +5 Inherent(tome) +6 Belt)
16 Cha(10 +6 Belt)

Feats:
Iron Will(Otygh Hole)
Track(Ranger bonus)
Rapid Shot(Ranger Bonus)
Manyshot(Prestige Ranger bonus)
1st lvl: Endurance
3rd lvl: Skill Focus(Diplomacy)
6th lvl: Point Blank Shot
9th lvl: Zen Archery
12th lvl: Woodland Archer
15th lvl: Practiced Caster(Cleric)
18th lvl: Improved Rapid Shot

I'd swap cleric for cloistered cleric so you can get the extra skill points and the knowledge devotion feat for a minimal cost.

Would it hurt to dip seeker and contemplative? I'm guessing I want that nice BAB just in case I can't get Divine Power off but those free domains are nice.

yes the Domains are nice... but you are not focusing on Casting... you are focusing on Archery:

Ranger 2/ Cleric 8/ Harper Paragon 8/ Prestige Ranger 2... is combat ready ALL the time, no buffing required... save your Spells for something necessary

for the build i just gave... just swap out Imp Precise Shot for Knowledge Devotion.... and move the feats around like this:

Feats:
Iron Will(Otygh Hole)
Track(Ranger bonus)
Rapid Shot(Ranger Bonus)
Manyshot(Prestige Ranger bonus)
1st lvl: Endurance
3rd lvl: Knowledge Devotion
6th lvl: Skill Focus(Diplomacy)
9th lvl: Point Blank Shot
12th lvl: Zen Archery
15th lvl: Woodland Archer
18th lvl: Practiced Caster(Cleric)

Very very impressive. Would you still buff or just go into a fight with no spells?

Also I am able to take a flaw so would you just bump up all the feats a lvl and add Improved Precise shot again?

One more thing... You set Point Blank Shot at lvl 9 but I was thinking of getting it with the domain. Did you mean to put Precise shot there?

1)yes .... if you want to: Righteous Might is very useful, as is Divine Power... especially if you have a Mighty Composite Bow(+5 Str bonus)... since your Str will go to 20 after both spells have been cast..... this way you get an Additional boost to Damage... and your arrows do 2d6... instead of 1d8 base damage........... the great thing is you dont rely on Buffs at all

2)yes .... or True Believer... to use certain relics ;)

How are you taking both prestige ranger and ranger in the same build? Doesn't UA say that the regular classes should be removed if you use prestige classes?

Good call I didn't notice that. It seems the easy fix would be to go 2 levels of Fighter instead although the flavor is boring. Any ideas?

Looks like I'll be going:

Barb 2/ Cleric 8/ PrC Ranger 2/ Seeker of the Misty Isle 4/ Harper Paragon 4

Harper paragon seems to not be beneficial for me since the DM houseruled no BoED which includes the Celestial Spells. Is there another PrC out there that would cool as flavor with full casting to lvl 4 and at least 3 BAB?

id recomend Harper Paragon over Seeker of the Misty Isle.... HP advances Favored Enemy and Animal Companion... when you have Favored Enemy(Evil) and can get the bonuses up high(IIRC, @ HP 8 .. it is +8) it will help for many things:

Bluff
Listen
Sense Motive

Spot
Survival
damage against Evil creatures.

Seeker does give 2 additional Domains(Magic, Travel) which are very nice.. especially the Granted abilities... and it gives some bonuses to Spot....

i would rather have the additional stuff from Harper Paragon

also i forgot about the clause about "regular and Prestigeous Classes"... but remember Wood Elves have Ranger as Favored Class... so Barbarian wont work without XP Penalties

1/2 Elf would work fine for that... or you could do this:

stay Wood Elf... Take the feat Exotic Weapon(Greatbow)... and do this:

Wood Elf
Cleric 8/ PrC Ranger 2/ Exotic Weapon Master 2/ Harper Paragon 8

and take these Exotic Weapon Stunts:
Close-Quarters Ranged Combat – does not generate an Attack of Opportunity with Exotic Ranged Weapons.

Ranged Disarm – you may attempt to Disarm with a Ranged Exotic Weapon (which is considered a Light weapon).
The Players guide to Faerun that I have (I think it's 3.5) doesn't say anything about the favored enemy evil advancing those bonuses per level. With the Barb I was going to get that feat from UA that allows you to add a favored class to a race.

I like the Exotic Weapons Master idea but that first ability can be made up for with the spell arrow mind which I should always have a few memorized and with pearls of power will never run out.

I'm not sold on the Barbarian idea i just didn't know how else to go.

The Players guide to Faerun that I have (I think it's 3.5) doesn't say anything about the favored enemy evil advancing those bonuses per level.

every time it says you advance favored Enemy bonuses(or get a New Favored Enemy)... you just add that to Favored Enemy(Evil)
With the Barb I was going to get that feat from UA that allows you to add a favored class to a race.

?huh??? ... do you mean, the Simple Variant Barbarian... lose Rage, but gain Favored Enemy, and Archery Combat Style as Ranger?
I like the Exotic Weapons Master idea but that first ability can be made up for with the spell arrow mind which I should always have a few memorized and with pearls of power will never run out.

its better not to have to cast a spell... since it is subject to Dispelling

I'm not sold on the Barbarian idea i just didn't know how else to go.

take the feat: True Believer... then take 2 lvls of Poius Templar ... or

if Eberron material is allowed:

Deadgrim(divine caster who fights undead by becoming more like them)(MoE p57)

Req:
Alignment: LG, NG, CG, LN, N, CN.
Base Attack Bonus: +5.
Know(religion): 4 ranks.
Able to cast 1st level Divine spells.
Class Ability: Turn Undead –or– Favored Enemy(undead)
Survived an encounter with an Undead of the same CR.
Member of the Red Watchers.

HD: d8
Skill Points: 4
Attack: Fighter
Good Save: Will

Class Skills:
Con: Concentrate.
Int: Know (religion),
Spellcraft.
Wis: Heal, Listen,
Sense Motive, Spot,
Survival.
Cha: Intimidate.

Class abillities:
1st: Add spells on the Deadgrim Supplemental Spell List (see page 106) to one of your Divine spell lists.
Deadened Flesh – skin becomes grey-ish, resulting in a (2 * Class level) penalty on Disguise checks when attempting to look like a living creature.
Improved Turning – Class levels stack with any other class that grants you Turn Undead.
Voice of the Damned – voice becomes raspy, granting a +(Class level) Competence bonus on Intimidate checks, but a –(Class level) penalty on Diplomacy checks (except with Undead, where it becomes a Competence bonus).

2nd: +1 Divine Caster Level.
Deadened Flesh’ – +2 bonus on saving throws vs. Poison, Paralysis, Stunning, Disease, & Death from Massive Injury.
Favored Enemy (undead) – gain Favored Enemy (undead) class feature. If you already have it, the bonus improves by +2.

Ahh there are only two advances after level 2 in HP at lvl 5 and 10. And yes I did mean the Variant barbarian with favored enemy and archery combat style.

just remember... other than Harper Paragon and Stalker of Kharash.... nothing gives Favored Enemy(Evil).... anything that advances Favored Enemy will also advance this one

the Variant Barbarian is very nice for this .... even if it is just a 2 lvl Dip... but then Wood Elf will not work for this(unless you dont mind XP penalties or your DM doesnt use them)... 1/2 Elf will work though

Ahh I get it... I wasn't thinking about taking the other favored enemy classes after lvl 2 of HP. Also my DM is allowing a feat that lets me take any class I want as a favored class. He said it was from UA. So I'm guessing that the build would look like:

1 - Barb1
2 - Barb2
3 - Barb2/ Cleric1
4 - Barb2/ Cleric2
5 - Barb2/ Cleric3
6 - Barb2/ Cleric4
7 - Barb2/ Cleric5
8 - Barb2/ Cleric6
9 - Barb2/ Cleric7
10 - Barb2/ Cleric8
11 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon1
12 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2
13 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger1
14 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2
15 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP3
16 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP4
17 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP5
18 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP6
19 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP7
20 - Barb2/ Cleric8/ Harper Paragon2/ PrC Ranger2/ HP8

I think that would give me +5 for favored enemy evil. If I dropped 2 levels of cleric and took 10 lvls of HP I would get +7 it seems.

With the previous feat build you gave me I would switch out Knowledge Devotion for the favored class feat. I don't think I could boost my knowledge skills high enough for that benefit to be effective.

I just checked out deadgrim and that made me rethink the whole build. Now I'm looking at

1 - Barb1
2 - Barb2
3 - Barb2/ Cleric1
4 - Barb2/ Cleric2
5 - Barb2/ Cleric3
6 - Barb2/ Cleric4
7 - Barb2/ Cleric5
8 - Barb2/ Cleric6
9 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ Harper Paragon1
10 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2
11 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger1
12 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2
13 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim1
14 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2
15 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP3
16 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP4
17 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP5
18 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP6
19 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP7
20 - Barb2/ Cleric6/ HP2/ PrC Ranger2/ Deadgrim2/ HP8

That would get me +7 favored enemy evil (+9 if I can figure out how to get rid of two levels of cleric and get the last two HP levels) Although that would only give me 16 lvls of casting... is there a way I can dip Deadgrim and PrC Ranger while getting a favored enemy before HP and not lose that casting leve?

Favored enemy doesn't work quite like that.
At 1st level, a ranger may select a type of creature from among those given on Table: Ranger Favored Enemies

"Evil" is not one of the choices to select on the table, and the class doesn't allow for you to improve one of your other favored enemies at 1st level. At 5th level and beyond it does, but not at 1st.

The builds you posted above would have favored enemy (evil) +3 from Harper Paragon, two additional favored enemies from the ranger's table, and one additional favored enemy from the Harper Paragon list.
