| #1pmurray%40bigpond.comApr 02, 2008 23:34:11 | I am running a Spirit Shaman, and I am considering taking one level of Cleric in order to get access to divine feats (divine spell power, divine metamagic). It slows down my XP, but there you go. Now, this means that I choose a deity and get two domain powers. The DM is oldschool and playing on Oerth, so none of this "worship no-one in particular and pick whatever domains you want". Any domain power tied to cleric level or melee combat is uninteresting to me. The elemental domains are uninteresting, as the SS can already chastise elementals. I like the magic domain v. much - my spirit shaman gets access to arcane wands. This means our party can have two arcane blasters. Scrolls are not so much use as he will remain level 1. But access to wands is such a major win that it's worth following Boccob or Wee Jas for that reason alone. The celerity domain is cool, as I run a gnome, but - feh - I'll just load up a longstrider spell, or get boots of springing and striding. The mysticism domain is excellent: 1/day, add your charaisma bonus to all saving throws. My spirit shaman will be pumping charisma, so its all good. But it's a free actin, not an immediate action. And Boccob is neutral and won't have this domain. Dream is good - immunity to fear. But the deity is non-core. Mind domain is ... ok (+2 on bluf/diplom/sense mo). And the domain spell is Comprehend Languages, which is always handy. But, it's not all that good. Oracle - feh. +2 on divinations, cast "Identify". Our DM is applying the spell component cost. Anyone got a pearl handy? Pact - add sense motive to skills. Cool, because it's missing from the SS class skills. But it only applies to cleric levels, which I am only taking one of. Pestilence - very handy. But no available deities. At present, I am thinking of taking up the worship of Boccob, and the Magic and Mind domains. I am party healbot, so any deity that has Healing and Magic domains would be better. The domain +1 to level when casting healing is unnamed, so it stacks with the +1 from the Touch of Healing feat. Feh. I'm taking Touch of Healing at level 3, so the divine feat will be at level 6. I might make level 5 the cleric level, just so as to nail down that I have the prereq for Divine Spell Power or Divine Metamagic (reach spell). Another possibility is running a summoner, with Divine Metamagic (Rapid Spell). |

| #4pmurray%40bigpond.comApr 03, 2008 2:25:39 | The divine metamagic was for use with Reach Spell. Often, my poor gnome just can't run fast enough to get healing to the ones as needs it. Persistent spell is awesome, but the prereqs are just too steep. A wizard gets bonus metamagic feats, but a spirit shaman doesn't. Sacred Exorcist, eh? Knowledge (the planes) is cross-class for Spirit Shamans, so it's not do-able until level 16 without investing feats. |
