| #1racerx103Jun 14, 2011 18:51:36 | Hello, I haven't played D&D in years, but there seems to be a recent groundswell of interest from some of my friends in revisiting 3.x D&D, so I started working on a build a couple of weeks ago. As far as I know, there would be no non-standard house rules. I wanted to play a Cleric (really!) and I have no issues playing a healbot, and the last time I played, I played a 3.5 Paladin and enjoyed it, so I thought I'd try and combine the two. I came up with the following (after wasting a weekend looking up prestige classes and whatnot). I believe the allowed books - or, "what everybody still owns," are: PHB I, II, Complete Divine, Arcane, Warrior and Scoundrel, BoED, BoVD, and Unearthed Arcana. I am not sure about Spell Compendium, or what DMGs there are. I found a similar build about two days AFTER I pored through infinite Google searches to make this guy; they all seem to use Ordained Champion, though, and I don't want to trade away my Spontaneous Healing. Cleric 4/Church Inquisitor 3/Prestige Paladin 3/Fist of Raziel 10 S: 14 D: 12 C: 12 I: 12 W: 15 C: 14 (32 Point Buy) All Attribute bumps go to Wisdom/20 by level 20. Alignment: Lawful Good Deity: Cyndor Domains: Travel, Protection, Inquisition Trade Travel and Protection in for their appropriate Devotions. At Level 20: HP: 9 + d8x7 + d10x13 + 19 (Max: 214) BAB: +18/+13/+8/+3 (+20/+15/+10/+5 with Strength modifier) Saves: Fortitude 16 (18), Reflex 9 (11), Will 17 (19) - Boost from Divine Grace in parentheses. Skills (unmodified): Concentration 21, Spellcraft 20, Heal 10, Sense Motive 5, Knowledge (Nobility) 5, Knowledge (Religion) 5, Knowledge (Arcana) 5, Diplomacy 5, Ride 4. Spells: Cleric Level 18, 2 Bonus 1st, 1 Bonus 2nd, 3rd, 4th Abilities: Turn Undead/5 as 4th Level Cleric, Smite Evil 6/day, Holy Martial Strike, Divine Health, Divine Grace, Detect Evil, Immune to Charms, Pierce Illusion, Lay on Hands, Special Mount, Aura of Courage Smite Modifiers: Good-Aligned, Confirming, Fiend Smite, Chain Smite I basically am curious about what feats to take, or failing that, how someone else would do this differently; I've put a lot of work into this but I have no idea how to complete the feat selection, avoiding the obvious DMM-Persist stuff. I was considering Spontaneous Domain (Travel), Domain Spontaneity, Sacred Healing, Divine Might, Quicken Spell/DMM Quicken, and Extra Turning, but I just can't make a decision. All suggestions are welcome. I am leaning Quicken/DMM Quicken and some Extra Turnings right now for the last slots. 1 - Servant of the Heavens (required for Fist of Raziel) 1 - Power Attack 3 - Practiced Spellcaster 6 - Mounted Combat (Required for Prestige Paladin) 9 - none 12 - none 15 - none 18 - none Edit: I did have an issue with deity selection, but I found one that works. I realize this is not the most interesting thread, but I thought it would be useful to at least correct the original post. I hope I listed everything you guys would need to help me out; I'm not sure what else you might need. Also, if I miscalculated something, please let me know; it's been tough relearning everything and I could have made a stupid mistake somewhere. Thanks in advance! |

| #3aelryinthJun 19, 2011 14:32:10 | Looks fine by me. If you aren't going the persistent route, Quicken is the next best thing to it. Need to up that Charisma a bunch if possible. ===Aelryinth |
| #4racerx103Jun 19, 2011 17:41:51 | Yeah, I figure I can bump that Charisma with magical items and whatnot; otherwise 5 turning attempts isn't really worth taking the one DMM: Quicken I would get that way. So you would just what, Quicken, DMM Quicken, Extra Turning, Extra Turning for the last feat slots then? |
| #5aelryinthJun 19, 2011 22:54:53 | Race? Why the Devotions that you picked? Are they actually important for the build? Do you need Practical Spellcaster? If you aren't casting offensively, it's not that important. Note that a standard tactic for DMM is to take Domains that grant you extra turn attempts, like the elemental ones, or the Sun domain. All those 'extra' turn attempts are fuel. If you are mainly going to be buffing yourself, you probably want Planning Domain (free Extend Spell). No magic item creation? ===Aelryinth |
| #6racerx103Jun 20, 2011 15:11:57 | Oh yeah, should probably include "Human." Sorry. I swapped the domains into devotions only because the devotions seemed more useful overall; they're not particularly build-important. I would like to be able to cast offensively sometimes, yes - sometimes you just want to cast Holy Word or something. I thought you had to swap Turn Undead attempts and those other turnings didn't count; regardless, I think I'd rather get extra turns for through Charisma boosters and Extra Turnings, items, whatever else than through domains. I didn't even think about Magic Item creation; time to do more homework. Thanks! |
