The group already has a fighter/cleric/wizard/ranger. I was thinking of a rogue or monk. Something with good damage and will be easily strong in combat. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated any 3.5 wotc published books can be used. Thanks in advance =]

Warblade 5. Druid 5. Wizard 5.

...Factotum 5?

Oh, Monk or rogue. Hmm. Swordsage 5?

The group already has a fighter/cleric/wizard/ranger.

Now that is a poorly optimized character, especially at level 5. Tongue out

Precocious Apprentice for Fiery Burst at level 1 is pretty uber at low levels.
A Rogue with Martial Weapon Proficiency using Greatsword is also nice, very early on.

Monk gets a super-TWF for free, but is stuck on medium BAB.
Half-orc Monk with best score in STR, take TWF and a quarterstaff. 3 strikes at l1, albeit with a bad to-hit chance, but most your opponents should have an AC of 12 or so, anyway, and you can adjust your to-hit chance quite a bit situationally.
Alternatively, we're looking at Improved Natural Attack, I think...

Oh, and Warlocks. And throwing acid flasks for rogues from hiding/while others are flat-footed.

Yeah, definitely swordsage. Multiclassing is probably better than just SS5, though. You might take a look at this character for ideas. He has Dex to damage like 2 or 3 times on ranged attacks, and some sneak attack dice as well, at level 5. He did get to ignore the +1 LA, though, but marrulurk is worth it even if you can't.

I think your group needs to be brought out of the stone ages.

Now that is a poorly optimized character, especially at level 5.

It had to be done. Despite the cliché, it was funny. At least they've got good saves.

Back on topic, Rogue or Monk = Unarmed Swordsage.

The Pugilist is pretty neat. Does "Shake it Off" work like Regeneration?

monks have same to-hit bonus and same #attacks than a TWF fighter...

edit due to below response: indeed... I should re-read core books before answering :D

...In Pathfinder. I'm not seeing a mention on whether it's PF or 3.5 in the OP.
PF monks _are_ significantly better than 3.5 ones.

Warblade 1/binder 3/warblade +1 with reach weapon and the improved binding feat, paimon bound.

Gives several good manouvers (like: make two attacks), +4 dex, improved uncanny dodge, whirlwind attack, 1/5 rounds 'hit everybody you move by' (great fun with reach weapon), +1d6/-2 AC with punishing stance. Almost broken good, +4 bab, great saves, lot of fun.
