| #1pallatineMay 14, 2009 17:22:17 | Alright Doc Rock you've convinced me to try one of these bad boys. I'll be jumping into a campaign, but myself only for one session. I need an ECL 6 (maybe ECL 7, depending if they level up in the next week or not). Some Houserules: All 3.0 (including that which has been updated), 3.5 and Pathfinder. No dragon Mags. Campaign specific stuff is ok. Basically, if something has been printed in multiple places, we use the best version of it. So here's what I've started with: Human Conjurer 3 (Martial Wizard Variant, Immediate Magic Variant)/Master Specialist 2/War Weaver 1 (or 2) STR: 10 DEX: 12 CON: 15 INT: 22 (+1 at level 4, +2 from Pathfinder human, +2 Headband of Int) WIS: 9 CHA: 8 Fort: 4 Ref: 3 Will: 9 BAB 3 (using fractional, 2 otherwise) AC: 9 (-1 for Aggressive, -1 for Vulnerable, +1 for Dex) Initiative: +9 I didn't want to use any early entry cheese, as I generally make the strongest characters in the group anyway. Flaws and feats: Show Trait: Aggressive Flaws: Inattentive, Vulnerable Feats: Combat Casting (Flaw), Enlarge Spell (Flaw) Spell Focus (Conj) (Human) Cloudy Conjuration, ?, ? (Looking for suggestions here, I thought about Energy Substitution (Electricity) and Born of Three Thunders or Possibly Reach spell and something else) Skill Focus(Spellcraft) from MS. |

| #3pallatineMay 14, 2009 22:06:38 | 1) Easy enough - I don't see a lesser orb of force, but I'd assume it works similar to the others. 2) How many scrolls should I pick up? |
| #4dr_rocktopusMay 15, 2009 4:29:04 | I would kill whoever you had to in order to make sure solid fog was on your list. I generally am not a huge scroll guy, but later in life I like to keep a single scroll of power word: kill in my pocket. You can cheese-around the failure chance, so it's basically a big-fat-terminate button for a BBEG if the GM forgets you have it (he will) and forgets to give his bbeg spell resistance (also painfully likely). Likewise two scrolls of polymorph goes a long-long way. Particularly since the basic version satisfies the reqs to be cast through the tapestry. |

Again thanks for the help! Well, I could put Solid Fog into my spellbook, but without fourth level spell slots, it's not going to do me much good. Polymorph...really....hrmmm...that sounds absolutely hilarious/fascinating. Also, given the general consensus on my Expanded Spellbook question in the "Simple question/answer" thread, and the lovely houserule to use the best version printed (I.E. ignore the errata), any thoughts on a good 3rd level or lower Conjuration spell? Like Lesser Vigor? So I can use a wand of it lol. And I think it'll work through the tapestry. |

| #7CantripNMay 15, 2009 12:54:12 | Lesser Vigor is aweome here, yes. But there are other options, namely Close Wounds (SpC 48), Kelpstrand (SpC 128) or even Lesser Restoration. I'd probably go with Lesser Restoration and start using Sanctified/Corrupt spells with impunity - you can even learn it as a 1st level spell (Paladin) and craft wands of it. |
| #8phaedrusxyMay 15, 2009 13:24:17 | Kelpstrand is nucking futs. It makes all the grapplers cry. |
| #9pallatineMay 15, 2009 13:27:17 | Lesser Vigor is aweome here, yes. But there are other options, namely Close Wounds (SpC 48), Kelpstrand (SpC 128) or even Lesser Restoration. I had looked at Lesser Restoration earlier, Not familiar with the other two, will look at them when I get home. Thanks for the suggestions! |
| #10dr_rocktopusMay 15, 2009 13:34:49 | 1st level restoration is absurd with the tapestry. It often turns off classical debuff routines because they all rely on ability damage for their finishing touches. My vote would be either lesser vigor or lesser restoration, both of those basically remove the entire healing role from the game at early levels. |
| #11pallatineMay 15, 2009 14:06:06 | How about any thoughts on my two open feats? I honestly don't think practiced caster is worth it for the 1 lost caster level I have (but feel free to prove me wrong) |
| #12CantripNMay 15, 2009 14:26:39 | Ask your DM if you can get Ability Enhancer (Dragon Compendium). Otherwise, that's when you beg to take Spell Mastery & Uncanny Forethought (seriously, beg). |
