CO Jamboree

I here by suggest that ther be a CO jamboree. It would be a huge geeky event in which those of the CO mentality would talk about D&D stuff.

Logistically and geographically the entire idea is slightly flawed. There are many of those of the CO oreint spread accross many continents and economic backrounds. To make this idea feasible I have seen one idea, it should be leach onto another geeky even like gencon. (The 4e prerelease thing would be cool, but I have a strange feeling we would make some of those on the R&D boards cry...)

I have came here to see if those of the great CO boards would be interested in such an event.

When is the next GenCon? There's a good chance of me being there. If anybody is going to be at A-Kon in Dallas, TX this year I'll be there and it'd be cool to meet some other folks from the CO.

May 30th is the next one.
Edit 2: http://www.gencon.com/2008/indy/attendees/faq.aspx Probably can't make it due to the date. Likely to be setting up for college.

17 hours of car to get to GenCon is something I swore myself to do once, might be a good idea for this year.

Hey, I've been talking to Cyrocloud about putting something like this on for this year. I think a good idea may be to break up ideas into to categories:
  • Time of the Year
  • Correlation of an Event

This isn't to say we have to or must limit ourselves to these.

In general, I want to meet up with all of you awesome dudes and ladies, and have a merry and memorable time.

Makes it one lady present at the very least.

Alright, so I will begin to just brainstorm.

The best time of the year for this is probably during the summer (college/high school is out) for most of us.

If we want to try to meet up at an event we should list some, I'll start. The Penny-Arcade Expo is a convention I always attend, so thats an easy possibility if you lived in Washington (I know, I know, You live in Australia, Siberia, Narnia, ect...).

Thoughts?

How much beer would this occasion entail? Should there be a reasonable amount of that and decent entertainment, I might consider dragging myself from the haven we know as Finland.

I'm 19 and going for an education degree, so I can vouch that I would not be transporting any alcohol to such an event (that isn't to say others couldn't).

You'd drag yourself from Finland for such an event?

Don't be scared by my rough cannuck appearance thought, I took jotunbrud as a level 1 racial feat.

Well I couldn't do GenCon (my car isn't up to driving across most of the USA and neither am I). However if you were going to hold this at PAX I might try to show. I've wanted to attend that for a while but never managed to convince myself to drive for 8 hours (laziness is one of my better qualities).

Heard about that too, but I was told it has too harsh requirements for students. Maybe when the next edition comes...

That post, disregarding the link and that smiley, sounded exactly like something our Sergeants yelled at us when we were to build a bridge over a river without decent materials during a combat training... Apart from that, I lol'd when I saw the picture.

That's all distance really is after all. Position relative to time.

It might be interesting to see if someone can book space at Gen Con Indy for a CO meeting. Invite the designers, watch them cringe as 4.0 is broken right in front of their eyes!

Preorder your ticket. It's about a 6 hour wait to buy at the door (I did this last year). Preorder is only about 15 minute wait.
