A player in an upcoming game wants to make a character based almost completely on controlling the thoughts, emotions, and actions of other people. Any suggestions on race, class, prestige classes, and the like?

A few base rules:
+1 LA only, but they can use monster classes from savage species if its not too crazy
1 flaw
only 2 base classes
have to finish out a prestige class if you take it.

No, I repeat, NO psions.

Enchanter Wizard with a Mindbender dip.

Beguiler (the class). Hm, maybe Beguiler (the race) as well. You could be a Beguiler Beguiler. Take a Mindbender dip there, too. Mindsight is nice, and it delays your advanced learning thingy.

Psion (Telepath). Throw a psionic adaptation Mindbender on there.

To take a completely different approach to controlling people, what about a Fiend of Possession/Fiend of Corruption?

I might have another idea, but I want to keep it sekret until I can actually try it in a game. >_>

Well, I hate to be stereotypical, but since the PC needs to take all PrCs to their maximum level and can't use psionics, he's pretty much stuck with beguiler or enchanter for best results.

Something like Gray Elf Enchanter 3/Master Specialist 10/Fatespinner 5/Archmage 2 would work well, I think.

So would Enchanter 5/Wild Soul 10/Fatespinner 5, though losing 2 CLs is kind of harsh.

Here's a solid resource for playing an enchanter if you think the PC needs any help with it:

I swear that those restrictions weren't in the first post when I clicked the reply button.

Aceraraklives's first suggestion, the gray elf enchanter would probably work best... though I'd put Archmage before Fatespinner, or perhaps stick Paragnostic Apostle at the end instead. Noble Presence and Discern Weakness for increasing your DCs.

If the PrC limit wasn't in place, I'd probably mix the archmage and fatespinner levels to take the CL hit from fatespinner 5 at 20th and get dominate monster as a SLA at 18th and 19th, and add in a mindbender dip somewhere as well, but c'est la vie.

With those restrictions Beguiler 20 or Enchanter 5/master specialist10/archmage5

For race grey or gold elf would work best. for a caster (especially an enchanter) an la is not a good option.

Was it Nightmare Spinner or Dread Witch? One of the two have a variant for Charm/Enchanter types. Allows you to to affect creatures normally immune to such spells.
