Core Only Character Critique?

May 15, 2011 21:51:39 Hi everyone, I'm creating a "support" character for a new campaign levels 1-20 that is super core-only (no SRD just PHB, DMG, and MM) that can do a little bit of everything and is playable at each level; I was thinking something like:

Fighter 1/Rogue +2/Fighter +1/Rogue +1/Assassin +3/Blackguard +4/Assassin +5/Blackguard +3

BAB +17, +8d6 sneak attack, 4th level (almost useless) arcane and divine spells , hide in plain sight, evasion, improved uncanny dodge, dark blessing, fiendish servant, turn undead as 5th-level cleric (lol)

Ability scores are meh (32 point base str 14, dex 14, con 14, int 14, wis 12, cha 12???)

Race is a bit of a dilemma, as are feats... I was thinking TWF for sneak attack? Probably melee because of blackguard's power attack, cleave, and improved sunder requirements

So... Yes? No-go? Any feedback is appreciated Thanks!

May 16, 2011 4:09:42 I'd rather say no ... blackguard and assasin do not really work together, since you'll create the ultimate MAD char: you will need Con for obvious reasons, DEX for AC and .. well hitting (finess), Int for Assasins Classfeatures+spells, WIS for BG spells, CHA for Savebonus and you might also want STR for Damage - oh, and you NEED 13 for Pow, Attack ... so there is noch other wach than the one you postet to distribute attribute points ... and they suck!

so imho you do not have that many options - you either skip assasin or BG OR you try to make the best out of your Attributes

I personally would stick to one of the two - preferably assasin (since you want to focus on skills (support) and sneak attack (obvious reasons))

For Race: go small! Gnome or Halfling ... though DEX is more important than con - and b/c you will focus on sneak attack combat-wise, STR is neglecteble

SOOOO:

Halfling, STR 12(10), DEX 18 (16), CON 14, INT 14, WIS 10, CHA 10 (feel free to minmax more)
Rouge 1 (16 Skillpoints are far more worth than 4 HP), Fighter 2, Rouge +2, Assassin 10, Wizard 1 (to grab Mage Hand foooor, Arcane Trickster 4

this will give you ok skillpoints and 9d6 SA till lvl 20 - allthough your BAB will not be the highest (14)

for feats: Weapon Finess, TWF-Tree ... and grab two daggers

May 16, 2011 18:30:33 Hehe, yeah the MADness was upsetting, I like the Assassin/Wizard/Arcane Trickster combination much better Just one other question I came up with though, what kind of actions can be taken during the rounds of study for a death attack? I know it says that your attention needs to be on the victim, but could you be casting things like true strike or something while studying to make up for some BAB? Thanks for replying!

May 18, 2011 16:04:02 To be honest, the build you have doesn't sound like "support" I'm not exactly sure what you want out of the build but you may want to have a combat reflex build or such to synergize the Dex-based Rogue and the fighter.
