Hey folks,

Hopefully I can get some advice. I've never played an arcane caster before and will be starting a campaign shortly in which I'll be a level 5 wizard.

I'm restricted to using PHB I & II and DMG. What are some particularly useful spells? Feats? Combinations? I like the look of a couple of the metamagic feats as well as Arcane Thesis though beyond that I'm having some trouble deciding. Hoping to play him based around spells from Conjuration, Evocation, and Transmutation.

Thanks in advance!

Will the Spell Compendium be available for your use, or are you truly restricted to PHBI and II?

Cheers,

PHB II will be a nice addition to core.

Consider a Conjurer with Immediate Magic (Abrubt Jaunt).

Not many options for PrCs - though Loremaster isn't bad - Archmage is good once you can qualify.

Arcane thesis is a good feat - but it does narrow you down a bit.

Spell Focus is a decent choice, maybe Augment Summoning, Extend spell, Sculpt spell...

Since you don't have access to the orb line of conjuration damage, I'm going to vote against a conjurer, depending on your party. Two front-line damage dealers? Do it. Less than that? Don't.

I second the Loremaster, but you don't need to push for it. Archmage is overrated, imo.

You could be a transmuter instead of a conjurer.

definitivly go for a specialist one way or another. But yeah, phb2 is good as it inclues the celerity line of spells which are just plain awesome for emergencies.
