thumbing through my copy of the dracronimcon I stumbled upon a sidebar i read before but never paid much attention to and I just knew i had to try:

Dragons don't use spell components, especially expensive ones

so i set down to work making a dragon focused on spellcasting and settled on a wyrming steel dragon with the loredrake option from DoE 3rd lvl casting for 4 hd, LA can be easily bought off.

so far I've got Dragon 4/battle sorc 2(martial prof)/ Abjurant champion 5/ ?

couple of questions:

if i PAO to an older version of a steel dragon, do i keep my breath weapon (as per rules of the game article) lose it completly, or get the better BW?

assuming i do keep my breath weapon, would i use the new age category or my original age category for the con drain effect?

what should i use for the rest of the build, i was thinking knight phantom? but i would prefer not to lose anymore spellcasting. I would also prefer not to use the battle sorc if possible to get more spells known out of this build

any really nice spells i just have to have that have expensive material components?

If you PaO in a dragon aged in another way, you gain all the breath weapons, con damages etc.etc. of the new age you have.

ok then, that's nice.

how about snowcasting/ all that cheese?

1: combat casting
3: snow casting
6: cold focus
9: greater cold focus
12: split ray
15: practial mm
18: some mm feat

or i could concentrate more on metabreath feats, using them once an encounter and then casting on their (now very low thanks to con loss) fort saves.

1: combat casting
3: heighten breath
6: clinging breath
9: recover breath (so i can try to get 1 more off)
12: hover
15: shape breath
18: quicken breath

oh why isn't there an empower breath feat

game finally started. I ended up going Dragon 4/Stalwart sorc 1/ mindbender 1 then going MAO 2 to vastly improve my spell selection, followed by abj. champion 5 and sacred exorcist if we get that far

feats:
1: Combat casting
1(flaw) Arcane prep
1(flaw): empower spell
3: Co op spell
6: Mindsight

rest of party is:
lvl 5 wiz/lvl 2 MAO God type gray elf(players first wizard, i'm helping him out alot)
lvl 7 druid trying for planar shepard human (battle realm i think)
and some crazy mix of classes mark of shadow elf w/ dark creature template. going for shadow hunter

The party (characters and players) think i'm "Smokey the bugbear" bugbear 3/ sorc 4. I want to see how long I can keep up the charade. Should be pretty long, especially because mindsight complements my blindsense so much.

items of note:
custom item of continuous "Strength of true form" gloves
shieldstone cavern (+1 caster lvl on abj. spells, how I qualified for MB w/ caster lvl 5)
spellguard rings: one for the God, one for me
