i was advised to move this thread here.

ok. first and foremost, the following problem started when my DM decided that he would allow multiple enhancement bonuses to stack with each other.

my main character is an artificer(ECS). my friend was playing a fighter long ago. his name was Nirethell. he was the party's tank, so i took advantage of the DM letting similar bonuses stack and made him really strong. (str 40-something, plus the DM had a Djinne who was granting wishes, so his strength came out to about 56). he also had a ring which maximised his hit points per level. his constitution was around 20. after a while, that character's player stopped coming to the sessions, so his character likewise dissappeared. (as a side note, his character was a devout worshipper of Heronious).

because the campaign wound its way back to the city we last saw him in, the DM decided to use the character as an NPC.

*note: half the party was evil. he was not. ie, at odds. one of the other characters was having trouble with him, so our assasin character use his last wish (the djinn gave wishes to everyone) to send Nirethell to the 9 levels of baator. nirethell also had one wish left, so he sent himself to the throne of heronious.

neither of my characters were aware of this. i say neither because my artificer took leadership, and had a half orc cohort (will give stats later).

my 1/2 orc, who worships my artificer as a diety (long story, im not going into it here), knew that nirethell was a thorn in his side. so, my half-orc got himself equipped by the artificer on short notice an went off to pick a fight with nirethell.

THE PROBLEM: after my 1/2 orc hit nirethell, it became apparent that nirethell was now an avatar. given my dm's poor jugement in regards to challenge rating and the fact that i know how to play the game well, i basically figured out that he used the Avatar Divine salient ability.....Yeah. assuming he didnt gain any levels i cant account for, he is now a CR 28 character minimum. (8 lvls fighter, 20 level adjustment from being an avatar, +1-3 from outrageous stats).
*edit* i have figured out that he has about 7 lvls of paladin, for a total CL of 35. also, nirethell has 14 holy knights, who are about lvl 15, and based on how much damage ive been doing, have over 200 hp each. i estimate no more than 250.

my artificer is lvl 11 and my half orc is lvl 8. heres the half-orc's important stats, since hes the one currently in combat with nirethell (the dm left it off right after i hit him and he showed his divine blessing).

barbarian lvl 1, fighter lvl 7.
HP: 85                  DR 15/adamantine when using iron body
AC:19/15. (10 + 7 armor +3 dex -1 misc (from war mace))/ (10 +7 +1 dex -2 rage -1 misc)
str 22     (34 from magic items/ 38 when raged and using iron body)
dex 16    (12 when using iron body)
con 17
int 12
wis 14
cha 12

weapons:
+2 ghost touch sizing war mace (currently large, 3d6)
     +1 composite shortbow(+9 str bonus) 1d6+10

armor: +3 chain shirt
Magic items:belt of ogre strength +6
gauntlet of rust(also enchanted with an aditional +6 str and Iron Body at will)

feats:
quick draw
improved crit(war mace)
power attack
improved bull rush
combat brute(CW, page 110)
extra rage
monkey grip

my artificer has that rod that holds up to 3 wands at once. it currently has 2 wands of fireball at CL 10. i like to use metamagic spell trigger to use empower and maximise on them both. the problem with this is the dm probably gave nirethell immunity to most energy forms just because i can deal 180 damage per round (or 90 is he succeeds both saves, since he doesnt have evasion from anything, as far as i know)

my artificer also has a flying castle and 50 magic cannons and 35 regular cannons, but not enough people to use them, so they are basically useless.

i know i wont get any responses in time since we are starting in 9 hours, but i would like some input anyway, just incase something interrupts the fight or i get a chance to check this later before the fight. thank you.
*edit* i moved this thread here after the session, but the amount of hit points i am facing meant i still havnt dropped nirethell or any of his knights.

Now, I don't know artificers off the top of my head but I assume they can do a Bull's Strength (et. al.) equivalent -- stack the hell out of them.

Also, try the CharOp area -- it tends to have people who know the tricks better.

i would, but my 1/2 orc is surrounded by knights and Nirethell, bull's strength is a touch spell, and my artificer is on a floating platform 150 feet off ther ground.

mmm kay ... looks like you have any number of houserules going on.
That's fine.

The main point is consider what's going on here.
You have one level 11 character, and a level 8 character.
You should be fighting against CR 5 to 7 encounters; or less!
You "are" fighting against a CR x_______ ??

Avatar is an SDA available to Deities with a Divine Rank of 6.
The Avatar is DvR 3.
It gets 3 SDAs from the main Deity.
It gets a minimum of 3 Domains, with each power available as a (sp).
So that's 9th level spells. At-will.

For simplicities sake, I call it a CR of 25, but it'd depend on the deity.
You are not fighting against it.
You are being humored by the deity/avatar
because it is bored with watching the daily divination deity television.

oh yeah, i think ur right. its a different ability that has a lvl adjustment +20. ok. thats comforting.

at any rate, im prolly gonna use a summon monster or summon natures ally to give my 1/2 orc a flanking bonus.

then i am going to "call in the heavy artillary"... he he he. my character basically made an alliance with the hellfire wyrm, (which was advances to really ancient and imcreased to collosal)

ill also send down a few cloudkills. if i can deal constitution damage, my 1/2 orc doesn't need to hit as often.

im just looking for something to level the playing field, and they probably have abnormally high saving throws.

I think your missing the point here.  This is not a battle you should try to win, this is a battle you should try to surivive (Run away)

Wow, I hope your CR/Lvl assumption is waaay off or your gonna get nuked. Plain and simple.

I'm a vet of PC battles and you broke several cardinal rules. First, you never strike first because that obligates you to fight, and you get no sympathy from the DM when the fight isn't going well. If he wasn't poseing an immediate threat to you and all of your being at the moment you should have held your piece (or peace, however you see it . Second, you never leave yourself open to permanent death. You have to play with dying in mind. If you don't have a way to come back, especially disguised in some way then I don't know why your picking a fight. Third, combat is a team sport. You should have built a power block of other players and NPC's to join, or at least have had them on standby. You would be surprised how much another player can add to your own arsenal, especially if they feel like they are saving you from a much more powerful character (which is why you shouldn't attack first...)

If you've got this cray Djinn granting insane wishes the game seems nearly over. I would wish for some ambrosia and have done with it. My god trumps your avatar. It's like he decided to climb the geat ladder of power and stopped halfway to smell the roses. Weird on his part.

on that note, the djinn usually messes with the wishes whenever possible. also, the djinn isnt all-powerful. also, i was incorrect about my estimate of the CR. i had been thinking about the wrong ability cuz i had been reading DaD. its "only" a lvl 25-ish encounter. i was planning on leveling the city eventually, it just looks like i'll have to do it sooner than planned. (i have 50 cannons (effectively howitzers) and 50 magic energy cannons.) nirethell aside, me and my 1/2 orc cohort are the most powerful things in town. i am allied with the powered-up hellfire wyrm, so i will summon him to cover my retreat. my dm said if i did, heironeous himself would show up to fight him, but thats ok. i can make my escape, and churn out a bunch of summoned monsters to assist him. theres no way the wyrm will win, but it will buy me enough time to seek help at a temple of hextor.
(btw, i am also planning on disposing of the wyrm eventually. if the wyrm wins, i now have access to diety blood, and i can finish off the wyrm. legendary dragon blood. i will have fun... he he he.)

i decided to skip a step. i have gathered a massive army, nirethell included, and i have summoned him in game. when he arrives hell will want to put on a jacket. mwahaha. 50 cannons plus 50 magic cannons (have not been tested yet), plus the champions of heronious and Kord, plus some over-sized golems that got sent from the lvl 20 npc artificer.

regardless of the outcome, as long as im not a casualty, i win.
