| #1beware_of_koboldApr 04, 2008 11:11:15 | it requires a caster level of 32 to animate a collosal object. Is there anyway aside from being level 32 to animate such a monstrosity (maybe aside from sacrificing a ton of living creatures to Death Knell)? |
| #2ninja1Apr 04, 2008 11:16:41 | Would sacrificing a ton of living creatures using a Persistant Greater Consumptive Field do it for you?? Here's a link to my favorite +Caster Level thread: Raising Caster Level |
| #3altpersonaApr 04, 2008 11:18:19 | yes. death knell isnt really an option unless your like 33lvl casting already... |
| #4eepopApr 04, 2008 11:21:45 | It probably wouldn't be out of line for a properly designed epic spell to allow for a character to animate one once they have Epic Spellcasting and Epic Skill Focus:Spellcraft. |
| #5beware_of_koboldApr 04, 2008 11:25:13 | ok how about this for parameters: 1. no sacrificing of creatures 2. no epic levels |
| #6snakeman830Apr 04, 2008 11:38:56 | 1. Make a staff of Animate objects 2. UMD cheese it 3. ??? 4. Profit! |
| #7eepopApr 04, 2008 11:39:07 | Ok, if you are going to be putting restrictions on it, how about you just come out and tell us what we really need to help you: 1) What level do you want to do it at? 2) What books are allowed? etc, etc, etc. If you give a one line question, expect the one line answers. With the restrictions, it will likely take an accumulation of 4-5 different things to even get close. And no one probably wants to do that work only to be told that some part of it is restricted. |
| #8beware_of_koboldApr 04, 2008 11:43:24 | well I'm trying to find a way to animate a collosal object, pre-epic, as a good-aligned creature. All WoTC books are allowed except campaign specific books. Assume a base caster level of 18. |
| #9snakeman830Apr 04, 2008 11:45:35 | As I said before:1. Make a staff of Animate objects It's possible, so long as you have max ranks, boost your charisma as high as possible, and find other ways to boost the check. |
| #10eepopApr 04, 2008 11:45:52 | Is the person solo? Do they have a party of similar powered individuals? Could they have others for cooperative or circle casting? |
| #11phoenix00Apr 04, 2008 11:51:52 | 20th level build +4 beads of karma +4 from that Ankh that forces you to sacrifice a level of spell to make another spell have +4 caster level +1 Ioun Stone +2 Spell Enhancer (from a wand you UMD and extend) +1 Magic Tattoo spell --- Or just do some circle magic --- Do this with a Dweomerkeeper and make the spell a supernatural chained spell, followed by a supernatural persistent spell. Also increase the hardness of the objects with that spell from eberron and the strong builder handbook. Enslave a psion and have them increase the hardness even more. Now these spells are immune to dispel and they can be use endlessly. Now create your tank army and become unstoppable, until you encounter lots of AMF or ToB characters who bypass damage reduction and hardness. |
| #12beware_of_koboldApr 04, 2008 11:56:26 | Well the person is solo but he has ready access to all the planes dont you have to be from thay and have a tattoo to do circle casting? Where is cooperative casting from? as for using a staff, how does UMD raise your effective caster level? Isn't that a 3.0 thing? UMD just says its a DC 20 to use a staff. It doesn't say anything about caster level. I'd assume that if you successfully use a staff, it would be at the staffs caster level. |
| #13phoenix00Apr 04, 2008 12:02:13 | Circle Magic is avaliable from Thay via Red Wizard Ruathar via Hathran or the evil version of Hathran Halruann via Halruann elder. All require you to be human, and you taking 1 feat and some levels in their prc. The tattoo is one such feat. |
| #14phaedrusxyApr 04, 2008 12:15:58 | well I'm trying to find a way to animate a collosal object, pre-epic, as a good-aligned creature. All WoTC books are allowed except campaign specific books. Assume a base caster level of 18. No. That's why evil always wins. :evillaugh j/k. It is easier as evil, but Circle Magic could do it. I'd forgotten that Hathran's and Halruann Elder's could use that. I thought it was only the (evil) Red Wizards. |
| #15part-human2Apr 05, 2008 1:07:24 | Bizarre but there are ways to have a character that is be both Good-aligned and have the [Evil] subtype. 5 levels of the Fiend of Possession PrC (FF) allows that outsider to possess and animate a Colossal object. |
| #16ShakaUVMApr 05, 2008 2:09:58 | You guys are making it way too complicated. Witness the power of a +1 weapon enchantment: flying. It turns the weapon it's put on into an animated object with an attack equal to the weapon's normal attack type. It also flies. A +1 colossal ghost touch harpoon is one of my favorite cheap magic items to pick up. No need for heroic measures to get a high CL. |
| #17CantripNApr 05, 2008 3:01:18 | Animate Weapon (CS) does this without any fuss. Just obtain a Collossal Spiked Chain and cast the spell... |
| #18ieniemienieApr 05, 2008 5:59:35 | Witness the power of a +1 weapon enchantment: flying. It turns the weapon it's put on into an animated object with an attack equal to the weapon's normal attack type. It also flies. Where can this enhancement be found? |
| #19ShakaUVMApr 05, 2008 16:08:06 | Where can this enhancement be found? Magic of Faerun, p140. You can have an army of incorporeal ICBMs following you around, for ~8k each. =) |
| #20Midnight_vApr 05, 2008 17:04:55 | Animate Weapon (CS) does this without any fuss. Just obtain a Collossal Spiked Chain and cast the spell... Okay, I call. What page is that on in the Complete Scoundrel? ![]() |
| #21Chaos_RedefinedApr 05, 2008 22:54:17 | I thought animate weapon was CM... In any case, Awaken also works, for colossal trees of doom... And, it gains an int, so technically it gains feats and skills. |
| #22CantripNApr 05, 2008 22:55:22 | ...CM it is. |
| #23astaraelscoApr 06, 2008 3:48:45 | Yeah, Animate Weapon is page 95 in Complete Mage. However, you'll need a 2h-weapon with a wielder of colossal size for this to work as the spell specifically says the weapons size is based off of the wielders size.. Oh, and you can only target your own weapon, so you'll have to make yourself colossal first.. Possibly easier than finding a rack off mighty spiked chain though... |
| #24cricket_godApr 06, 2008 12:43:47 | It's a bit rules finiky, but you might be able to get away with animating a Sizing Weapon. The Animate Weapon spell says that the weapon's "enhancements and other special properties apply as normal". You could argue that the Sizing property would still "apply as normal", meaning that you could use a swift action after you animate it to change it into a Colossal object. However, as a GM I might allow this trick to increase the animated object's damage, and possibly the area it takes up on the map, but the spell would still treat the object as an object of the weilder's size. |
| #25cyrocloudApr 06, 2008 14:47:48 | Would a Spellthief 8/Chameleon 9/ 3 bloodlines with master spellthief and practiced spellcaster work. I think th CL would be 39, but I'm not positive. |
| #26wedged_mindApr 08, 2008 2:28:59 | Wouldn't casting Shrink Item on your weapon of choice, casting Animate Weapon, and then reverting it to it's normal size work? |
| #27eepopApr 08, 2008 15:07:32 | He didn't specify what the object was, so the weapon tricks may not work. Although you could always argue with your DM that anything is an "improvised" weapon. :D |
