Creating an Epic Monk!

Mar 30, 2008 9:41:40 Greetings all. I don't see much talk about monks (except for the beloved monk belt ;) ) so I was wondering if I could get some help on this. Here are the details:

- Would prefer for it to be Human. It can be the Human Paragon if need be.
- 84 Point Buy, one to one basis. Highest stat can be 18, lowest is 8 (6 if you really gotta!).
- 21 levels, exactly, to play around with.
- As the title says, I'd like the class to be a Monk.. or some variant to it. I keep hearing something about an unarmed Swordsage? ;) The point is, the character must fight hand to hand, basically. Boxing, grapples, those kind of things.

You can use any book, but please (!), give me sources since I don't know where half of the things you guys quote come from, and thus you might provide me with the most awesome build ever made, and I'll be stuck going "Whoo.. ...where can I look at that?"

Now, for flavor things (basically, bonus if you can somehow incorporate these elements there):

- I want him to almost have an Antaeus feel. For those not versed in Greek mythology - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antaeus - though obviously, I don't want him to go weak in the knees the moment he doesn't touch the ground. But I'd like for the element of earth to somehow be incorporated into his abilities.
- He's not exactly "flowing like water," as I said above, but more like "steady as earth." If there's a wall in front of him, he would go through it, rather than over it.

There you go! Thank you very much for any aid that can be given to me on this.

Mar 30, 2008 10:01:06 so you basically want him to be Giant or Half-Giant, based on the description provided. Maybe Goliath could work as well with powerful build....

You should pick the race yourself, and say what stats you prefer; I can live with a Cha of e.g. 6, but I don't know if you will....

Mar 30, 2008 10:10:20 Hmm.. okay! But I need him to be Human. The character isn't tall or the sort. He's a little over six feet, so I don't know if the giant part would really fit for him. How about stats that would go along this?

Str 16
Dex 16
Con 16
Int 10
Wis 16
Cha 10

I was told the Unarmed Swordsage would be better than going any levels in Monk. Is that so? If so, do I still need that high of a Wisdom?

Apr 22, 2008 11:55:27 Oh, also, he doesn't use any weapons at all. Just bare fists. Maybe gloves that would enhance that, but nothing like claws or batons or the sort.

Unarmed Swordsage is a lot better. It's a ToB monk. And, yep, swordsages get Wis to AC too. Go for it.
