| #1mflabiasApr 08, 2008 17:10:45 | Traits I need: Claws - Either natural or some exotic weapon. Fast Healing - As much as possible without sacrificing too much combat potential. Race - Human or Shifter (I think he was supposed to be a human, but he seems kind of animal-like) Scent - As in the shows/comics/games. Agility - Good jump, run, tumble, etc. Adamantine Skeleton - .....I dunno - Immunity to severed limbs/vorpal maybe? DR perhaps? Costume - Unarmored or lightly armored. Also, is there any threads like this already in existance. I know I've seen some Goku threads and even Gutz from Berserk. |
| #2ppaladin123Apr 08, 2008 17:14:29 | totemist gets you everything you asked for. win. |
| #3hyfighApr 08, 2008 17:16:18 | http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=227556 for King of Smack. I have a variation of this build that fits more flavor wise. http://forums.gleemax.com/showpost.php?p=11690726&postcount=613 also fit's quite well. |
| #4playswithfireApr 08, 2008 17:29:13 | If you're willing to completely ignore the fluff, A feral mineral warrior human Ranger 2/Monk* 2/Fighter 1/Fist of the Forest 3 should have everything you want. feral gives you claws and fast healing mineral warrior gives you DR 8/Adamantine; I'd call that a decent representation of an adamantine skeleton The two of them collectively give you +9 natural armor, which also helps with being as tough as wolverine is final stat adjustments should be +6 STR, +6 CON, -6 INT, -2 DEX, -2 CHA Fist of the Forest gives you CON to unarmored AC that stacks with monk as well as scent and boosts unarmed strike damage. The skill points to get good ability skills may be the one issue with that INT penalty, but everything else is done. *overwhelming attack variant |
| #5mflabiasApr 08, 2008 17:32:13 | Fire I think that sounds perfect! Can you name the books on those? I don't even know what out of what you said is a race.. The only restricition seems to be that we can't use races with +LA. |
| #6playswithfireApr 08, 2008 17:50:28 | Feral - Savage Species (LA +1) Mineral Warrior - Underdark; excerpted here (LA +1) Overwhelming Attack Variant monk - Unearthed Arcana/SRD Fist of the Forest - Complete Champion |

| #8darksamuariApr 09, 2008 0:42:37 | Another possible way is Shifter Ranger (with the shifter sub. levels) and a 2 level dip into Totemist for sphinx claws. |
| #9SenevriApr 09, 2008 0:51:44 | Mm... Shifter Warblade Bloodclaw Master. Healing Factor at L1. Add Swordsage levels for Ninja/Samurai training. ( an oft-forgotten aspect ) Combat Vigor, maybe dip Psionics for Psionic Lion's Charge. Seems more interesting/fun, although will probably have lesser numbers than the ones suggested above. Scent, Claws, Healing. No DR, though ( except through Stone Dragon ), but what I suggest here, has no LA and leaves 9 levels free. Look into the linked threads for further ideas. |
| #10sinfire_titanApr 09, 2008 1:24:22 | totemist gets you everything you asked for. win. Fast Healing: Healing Devotion Claws: Sphinx Claws (they even look like his). Agility - Good jump, run, tumble, etc. Agility: Yes (more Soulmelds) Adamantine Skeleton: Somewhat (nonmagical items won't hurt you as much) (More Soulmelds) Costume: Duh. |
| #11sirlavandinoApr 09, 2008 3:20:22 | If you're willing to completely ignore the fluff, 'n if u had vow of poverty? Wolverine doesn't have "possessions" (some cigar maybe ![]() |
| #12SenevriApr 09, 2008 3:30:15 | Can has a motorcycle. I think he has a house at some point in time. No WAY he can sustain an "Exalted" lifestyle anyway. |
| #13sirlavandinoApr 09, 2008 3:42:17 | Can has a motorcycle. I think he has a house at some point in time. No WAY he can sustain an "Exalted" lifestyle anyway. wasn't that cyclope's motorcycle? well anyway i'm not an x-men expert :D |
| #14mflabiasApr 09, 2008 4:01:09 | Is Feral on the web anywhere? Also - any feats I need to be looking for? Let's say I'll be level 3 (2 with +LA) and I take two flaws and Sacred Vow/VoP. |
| #15ShakaUVMApr 09, 2008 6:28:19 | Seems like a Tome of Battle Warblade could duplicate wolverine straight up. It gives you: All the different claw attacks in the world (Tiger Claw is filled with them) Adamantine Bones (Stone Dragon Strike) Regeneration (Iron Heart healing) Plus the ability to leap around and be badass. I'd take all the tiger claw feats too, just because. |
| #16grundleApr 09, 2008 11:12:24 | Seems like a Tome of Battle Warblade could duplicate wolverine straight up. It gives you: +1 you can also get scent at 1st from the Tiger Claw stance. I am beginning to think Tiger Claw was directly inspired by Wolverine. Totemist, on the other hand, doesn't really seem like the type of power source Wolverine would employ. Wolverine and VoP??? not a chance, bub. |
| #17sinfire_titanApr 09, 2008 11:20:40 | +1 Totemists can pull it off, but VoP is nowhere near the theme. Remember, he don't smoke cheapo cigs. Edit: What about Warblade/Totemist, for the Claws and the maneuvers? All you need is the Totem Bind for Sphinx Claws, so a 2 level-dip should be ok. |
| #18grundleApr 09, 2008 11:24:15 | Totemists can pull it off, but VoP is nowhere near the theme. I just get the feeling that Wolverine wouldn't have the patience to meditate for an hour, let alone harness some esoteric substance like essensia i guess it just depends on what you want the fluff to crunch ratio to be. If you're trying to represent Wolverine as accurately as possible, it will be a different approach than trying to imitate his combat tactics as closely as possible. |
| #19sinfire_titanApr 09, 2008 11:26:13 | I just get the feeling that Wolverine wouldn't have the patience to meditate for an hour, let alone harness some esoteric substance like essensia Well, he can just keep them shaped. You can choose to simply never rebind your Melds, unlike Vestiges. He would only need to do so once in his lifetime in order to bind them permanently. |
| #20grundleApr 09, 2008 11:27:20 | can soulmelds be dispelled or suppressed in an AMF? |
| #21ppaladin123Apr 09, 2008 11:29:22 | +1 The totemist also gives scent if you use the hunter's circlet. |
| #22sinfire_titanApr 09, 2008 11:30:16 | can soulmelds be dispelled or suppressed in an AMF? Dispelling them suppresses them for 1d4 rounds, like Magic Items. AMFs do the same. Maybe a Construct Graft from Last War with a permanent Weapon Grant and using clawed gauntlets? |
| #23SenevriApr 09, 2008 11:40:00 | I just get the feeling that Wolverine wouldn't have the patience to meditate for an hour, let alone harness some esoteric substance like essensia O RLY? |
| #24sinfire_titanApr 09, 2008 11:41:06 | O RLY? Nice point there. |
| #25grundleApr 09, 2008 11:53:40 | O RLY? I stand corrected! |
| #26darksamuariApr 09, 2008 12:53:00 | Alright, so here are two things that are awesome about the shifter ranger racial sub. levels. At 9th level you can select one of the two effects.
I think this could maybe help us out? |
| #27SenevriApr 09, 2008 16:49:29 | is this CONTINUOUS fast healing? If it is, Ranger 10 might be viable. Dip Swordsage, Get at least 2 of Bloodclaw Master, dip Totemist for Sphinx Claws? |
| #28darksamuariApr 09, 2008 16:54:17 | Unfortanatly it is not continuous, it lasts for as long as you are shifting. |
| #29grundleApr 09, 2008 17:07:55 | Wolverine would not take 9 levels of ranger because he knows that would make him suck. |
| #30quickenedwishApr 09, 2008 17:19:58 | Shifter Druid with sub levels, later taking warshaper. Gets you claw attacks, and a beast spirit inside you. Take warshaper enough and you get fast healing as well. Shifter Ranger with the Wildshape variant taking warshaper levels could work too, but you lose the beast spirit, which is very nice both crunch wise and flavor wise. |
| #31prime361Apr 09, 2008 19:27:13 | I stand corrected! I was going to point out anyone with inner demons has some way of meditating. Its just not always the monk in lotus position like you imagine. But then someone had a nice link to illustrate the point. The Prime Suspect |
| #32mflabiasApr 10, 2008 0:12:58 | So far Feral and Monk are seeming to be really good. I made the character today and so far the highlight of our adventures have been fighting a giant size zombie who continually failed his grease saves. Because the rest of my party is around 13-17 AC I decided to not go with VoP because I would be at a 26 unarmored AC at level 2 (ECL 3). Is there anyway to bump the fast healing given by Feral - I have 5 feats that I haven't really used (Power Attack and Improved Bull Rush are granted from Overwhelming Attack Monk) Well, here I am so far: Feral Human Overwhelming Attack Monk 2 Lawful Good (or whatever is needed for Fist of the Forest) 21 14 20 12 14 10 We just leveled so I have something more to take there. I was thinking about going monk 2 -> ranger 2 -> fighter 1 -> fist of the forest 3, as I was advised by playswithfire. What should my feats look like? I guess I should go with: Cleave WF: Claws TWF (or does that work with Claws?) *open feat *open feat |
| #33grundleApr 10, 2008 0:17:38 | what happened to warblade? its vastly superior to monk. |
| #34mflabiasApr 10, 2008 0:20:57 | Is it? Why? edit: im so sorry - i wish i could find online scans but i rarely can and i have a 3.0 phb, dmg, and the mini's handbooks and that's all - so i can't really look anything up without searching for it on the web or getting it from someone else's book. i pretty much just find out what i need to get then look through their books/downloaded scans for it. |
| #35loganic1Apr 10, 2008 0:37:26 | One, is there a TO or CO optimization for fast healing or auto healing per round? Ideally this would be something that lasts all day or works always. Any character that has constant healing 50, it won't matter so much if they only have 150-200 HP Edit: To answer why warblade/swordsage unarmed variant is better, is that they get the unarmed damage, and wis to ac, as well as manuevers. Edit2: MFLabias, scans of books are illegal (WoTC as far as I know, doesn't sell digital pdf of their books), so don't get them, or at least don't admit to it. So don't use Rapidshare or BitTorrent/Torrents to get any pdfs of the books, even though finding them might by incredibly easy using google, rapidfox, or torrentz. As for free and legit sources, look at Crystal Keep, System Reference Document v3.5, The Hypertext d20 SRD Crystal Keep is great because it covers many books, but for some reason, not all of their entries are 100% accurate so always double check the source, which they fortunately provide. Well organized. System Reference Document v3.5 is clean, basic and very well organized. Focuses on general rules, core, and has recently included topics on things like Divine Ranks, Psionics, Traps, Planes, and Unearthed Arcana. The Hypertext d20 SRD is very accurate, but is a pain to search through. They sometimes have trouble with their links. |

| #37mflabiasApr 10, 2008 1:06:51 | To answer why warblade/swordsage unarmed variant is better, is that they get the unarmed damage, and wis to ac, as well as manuevers. Do they get evasion? I'm really fond of it aswell as getting Powerattack for free, +3 saves, and a flurry at -1/-1. |
| #38vicen_korelApr 10, 2008 1:41:16 | Come On People! It's Wolverine! Grafts! Grafts are the way to go! LoM graft that fast healing and healing heart along with the STR CON and DEX boosters! Besides Wolverine is a samurai too, if you read the rest of those comics. |
| #39loganic1Apr 10, 2008 1:43:50 | Do they get evasion? I'm really fond of it aswell as getting Powerattack for free, +3 saves, and a flurry at -1/-1. There's a lot of give and take, but mostly take. Even just maneuvers, can get ones that ignore DR. One that lets you make as many consecutive attacks as you can, with a -4 penalty each time (especially with the buffs you gives yourself to attack rolls on the previous turn) Look at many if the ToB builds. You can run around like a flaming idiot, burning everything in 5-10 feet of you which isnt bad when u move at 120, 160, 240, 320 ft a round. You can become a shadow pouncer, blinking 3 times a turn, full attacks per blink. Think Nightstalker. You can make builds where you try to get others to attack you as much as possible, get insane numbers of attacks of opportunities, and give them all up for 5 bonus damage apiece to all attacks on the following round (per AoO), ending up with numbers like +70 to attacks. Then combine that with the ability to take an extra full round action, and deal 4x damage using concentration skill check instead of attack roll against touch AC. Take Skill focus feat if you want to just take 10 on that. ( [2d10+str+full powerattack+70]x4, no miss chance, unless their dex is over 60). That's just the start of it. How does your power attack, evasion and 2 extra attacks compare? List of builds |
| #40SenevriApr 10, 2008 5:40:31 | That being said, Yes, Swordsages get Evasion. |
| #41prime361Apr 10, 2008 13:49:54 | If you are sticking with monk, multiattack is better than TWF. 2 claws and your monk= natural attack qualifies you for it, and you get to make 3 attacks, 1 unarmed at full BAB, and both your claws at -2. The Prime Suspect |
