I need help with all about critical hits, if there's a handbook or something. I'm a bit short of time to search for myself, so anything would be ok. Thanks to all that going to help with this

Whoa, that's a lot you're asking... Anything at all more specific?
We could go from something like "Critical hits let you multiply damage on a successful critical hit." on up, I don't know quite what you want.

A build based around crits?

Some fun stuff on crits?

What are crits?

Best ways to use crits?

mmm, may be metal stats and criticals and a maximum critical range, and consecutives critical, i think so

Well, rapiers are deemed to be pretty deadly, especially keen, for the huge threat range. On the other side, there's something called a kusri-gama or something like that that seems to be a fav. I don't know it's stats, but I'm assuming it has a high crit multiplier, maybe x4, and I know it can be dual-wielded.

Also, there's the old standby the scythe, x4 crit, and two-handed for power-attacking goodness.

I'm not as good as some of the others around here, but I hope I helped.

Kaorti resin weapons have a critical multiplier of x4.
Solamnian trusteel weapons (A&E Guide) have +1 to confirm critical hits.
Kensei (Oriental Adventures) has stackable critical threat increases.
Disciple of Dispater (Book of Vile Darkness) has stackable critical threat increases.
Psychic Weapon Master (Mind's Eye) has stackable critical threat increases.
Blood in the Water (Tome of Battle) adds damage for each critical threat.
There is a feat in Magic of Incarnum (forgot the name) that adds invested essentia to your critical confirmation rolls.

Best bet is probably an azurin Warblade going into Kensei/PWM/Disciple of Dispater with a pair of kaorti resin scimitars/kukris.

Kusari-gamas don't have a wide crit range and they crit at x2. They're in the DMG in Asian weapons in the World Building section. They are basically a light version of the spiked chain, which is good enough.

Ah, that's where I heard about them then. My bad.

Disciple of Dispater's weapon has to be made mostly of metal, and Psionic Weapons Maaster's has to be made of crystal, so that's out.

Thaere is a feat in Drow of the Underdark which slows an opponent when they get critted. Pretty sick.

Isn't the Crystal in XPH described to be treated as metal? So that Druids can't have crystal armor and such..

Nice little list..

As for a list of what helps criticals there isn't one that I could find. But a couple of other things:

  • A Jovar is basically a Greatsword but with a crit range of 18-20/x2
  • Kukris are a dagger with 18-20 crit range
  • Minotaur Greathammers (MM4 I think) also have 19-20/x4 Crit range
  • Mythic Exemplar (CC - Complete Champion) gives a +1 to Crit range at 2nd level by following Sunyartra
  • There is an option in a book (can't remember which) that allows rogues to sneak attack undead - you could argue this to your DM that this should apply to Crits too.
  • Power Critical (CW) gives +4 to confirm a Crit
  • A Blessed Weapon gives automatic Crit confirmation

That's all I can think of atm (am away from books).. But I'll add to if I think of others

I see why you might think along those lines, but "treat as metal" doesn't mean "made of metal."

Weapons Master from Sword and Fist* gets stackable crit increases.

*Sword and Fist is a 3.0 book, but Weapons Master was never updated. No matter what WotC says, the Exotic Weapons Master from Complete Warrior is not the same class.

While we are on the topic I have a newb question (sorry this is the second time I've ever ran a warrior type in 20 years of gaming)

IMPROVED CRITICAL [GENERAL]
Choose one type of weapon.
Prerequisite: Proficient with weapon, base attack bonus +8.
Benefit: When using the weapon you selected, your threat range is doubled.

Does this feat 1) add one more value of critical threat range or does it 2) truly double the critical range?

For instance does a Falchion w/Improved Critical, at a normal 18-20 threat range, now become:

1) 17-20

or

2) 16-20

Thanks,
Necro

Minotaur Greathammers (MM4 I think) also have 19-20/x4 Crit range

This is likely a typo (athough it has never been errata'd). In the stat block, the weapon clearly has a threat range of 20/x4, which would put it inline with other exotic weapons.

I know that it's written there and "text trumps table (or stat block)", but it breaks the scheme for threat ranges & multipliers. I suggest discussing it with your DM first.

Sword and Fist is a 3.0 book, but Weapons Master was never updated. No matter what WotC says, the Exotic Weapons Master from Complete Warrior is not the same class.

I agree that the classes are vastly different, but EWP is the official "update" for S&F's Weapon Master, so there's little wiggling room. On the other hand, the Psychic Weapon Master [WotC Web] does the same threat range +2 stuff, and that's not been "updated".

For instance does a Falchion w/Improved Critical, at a normal 18-20 threat range, now become:

1) 17-20

or

2) 16-20

It becomes 15-20. The original threat range is 3 numbers, doubled it's 6.

They have different names.
They have different class abilities.
They have different prereqs.
Weapons Master is about being obscenely good with one specific weapon. Exotic Weapons Master is about being good with unusual weapons.
Weapons Master has 10 levels. Exotic Weapons Master has 3.
They have nothing whatsoever in common except probably BAB and possibly saves (AFB, so can't check).
Exotic Weapons Master is by no sensible definition an update. It's a new class. And a line in the update document can't change that.

This is where I get confused. To me it would seem to work either

Starting threat range 18-20

1) Adding +1 to the threat range = 17-20

or

2) Threat range for Falchion 20-18= 2 point range; double that range to a 4 point range; 20-4=16; hence final range 16-20

Thanks,
Necro

No, threat range 18-20 is a three point range - it threatens a crit on an 18, 19 or 20. Double that and you get a six point range - threatens on a 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20.

Look, I'm not trying to argue the point. It's just that CW's Exotic Weapon Master was officially branded the "update" (not only for the S&F Weapon Master, but also for the MotW Exotic Weapon Master, by the way), so that's that.

I remember people getting quite upset when this information came out a few years ago.
