| #1w00tmanxFeb 22, 2009 23:29:06 | Okay, I know it's cheesy, but I'm playing a wizard and I would like some comments on feat choices and such. I'm dead set on going Mind bender 1 + Mindsight, so no way I'm not doing that, hah. Dragonborn of Bahamut Fire Elf. Wizard 5/ Mindbender 1/ Incantatrix 7/ Archmage 1/ Incantatrix +3/ Archamge +3 Going to be middle aged, and with stats at level 1 (using 32 point buy) will be 7, 14, 14, 21, 9 and 7. Taking the Elf substitution levels for Wizard at 1 and 3, Spontaneous Divination at 5. I can take 2 flaws and 2 traits. Any suggestions? I was looking at Aggressive, passionate, absent-minded and spell gifted for traits. Are there better ones not in the UA? For flaws, I was considering Noncombatant, vulnerable and weak will. Any thoughts? Okay, so for feats, this is what I've chosen so far. /shrug 1 Iron will, Extend Spell, Skill focus [Spellcraft], Summon Familiar, Scribe Scroll, Generalist Wizardry 3 Craft Wondrous Item, Natural Link 5 Spontaneous Divination 6 Mind Sense 7 Empower Spell (?) 9 Spell Focus [Necro?] 10 Persistent Spell (?) 12 Spell Focus [Trans?] 13 Quicken Spell (?) 15 Feat 17 Bonus MM Feat 18 Feat I really don't know what to do for those last 3 feats. Arcane thesis here? Chain spell? For Archmage 1, at 14, I was thinking Arcane Reach. Is it better to fill out Incantatrix or is reach that useful? Or maybe a different high arcana? My other thoughts for high arcana are Spell Power, Mastery of Shaping and SLA in that order. Time stop for SLA? I think that pretty much covers it. I don't know what level I would start out at. We're level 9 right now, almost level 10. This is a back up character in the event that the one I'm playing now dies. Thanks a bunch for your time! |

Second, drop your Int by 1 and spend those points somewhere else. You want an even starting spellcasting stat if you can help it, unless you are going into Epic play. What do you want to do with the character? |

I'd say its better than finishing up Incantrix right away simply because the level you get it is about the level you learn Otto's Irresistable Dance, and AWESOME win spell. As far as feats to fill in the rest of your stuff, you can seldom go wrong with Split Ray, Chain Spell, Minor Shapeshift, or Alacritous Cognition. All of those are strong feats. I really like Split Ray because it combos well with things like Stun Ray, Ray of Exhaustion, Ray of Enfeeblement/Clumisness (still good at level 20!) and of course, the amazing Ray of Dizziness. Chain Spell is great utility, although could probably just be bought as a MM Rod. Minor Shapeshift gives you a little bit of extra cushion on your HP, and a pseudo heal that is rather useful. Alacritous Cognition is also nice since you can leave a spell slot open and mem it at any point later on in the day on short notice. Normally this take 15 minutes. Circumstantially useful, but what else are you gonna spend the feat on? Worst case, if you can't think of a feat, take Improved Init. Between your Augmented Hummingbird (you are taking that, right?), Improved Init, and Nerveskitter, you'll have a +17 init before you even factor in your Dex any anything else. Thats pretty awesome. Going first as a wizard means your opponents probably won't even get to act, they will just die. |

There is a link in my sig for more uses of the feat, though. Edit: Wow... white screen of death. Good thing I moved it to a forum that's actually worth a . Here |
| #6EndarireFeb 23, 2009 12:12:54 | Why not specialize? You get the wonderful benefits of more spells, Abrupt Jaunt/Sudden Shift, and- argh, I see your point. You'd need to drop Illusion if you went Incantatrix and wanted to keep Mindbender. Otherwise, Chain, Quicken, Extend, Persist, and Reach are my fave metamagic feats. |
