Got bored and decided to come up with an evil blackguard inspired skeleton build. But I find the actual Blackguard PrC is very lacking and just makes me sad. So I decided to come up with a better combination. This first build is the base skeleton build. The other builds expand off the original 10 level build.

Positive and Negative Feedback welcome.

Build Concept: The REAL Blackguard
Race: Any
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Class: Hexblade 4/Paladin of Tyranny 6/10 Any

Level Progression: (Class, Overall Level, BAB, Fort/Ref/Will, Class Abilities)

Hex   1-  +1,            +0/+0/+2, Hexblade's Curse 1/day
Hex   2-  +2,            +0/+0/+3, Arcane Resistance
Hex   3-  +3,            +1/+1/+3, Mettle
Hex   4-  +4,            +1/+1/+4, Dark Companion
Pally 5-  +5,             +3/+1/+4, Aura of Evil, Detect Good, Smit Good 1/day
Pally 6-  +6/+1,        +4/+1/+4, Divine Grace, Deadly Touch
Pally 7-  +7/+2,        +4/+2/+5, Aura of Despair, Divine Health
Pally 8-  +8/+3,        +5/+2/+5, Rebuke Undead
Pally 9-  +9/+4,        +5/+2/+5, Smite Good 2/day, Special Mount
Pally 10- +10/+5,     +6/+3/+6, Cause Disease 1/week

Pros:

1. With your Dark Companion and Aura of Despair any foe within 5ft of you takes a -4 to all saves and a -2 to AC. Pop Hexblades Curse on your now weakened foe and lower all his saves by -6 total in addition to the -4 AC, and -2 everything else. This could become more usefull depending on what feats/classes you take later on. I personally find an automatic -4 to all your saves with no save a very nifty surprise to show your foe. Even better if they fail the save on your Hexblades curse!

2. Divine Grace buffs your saves nicely. Add Arcane Resistance to the mix and your getting x2 your Cha modifyer to saves versus spells. This makes Mettle even that much more appealing as your Fort and Will saves will be shot up even higher. If you take Force of Personality your Will saves will make casters cry.

3. Full BaB and great saves.

4. Skeleton build not reliant on feats for its strengths. It is meant to survive and still be able to hit back.

Cons:

1. Low Skill Points

2. No bonus feats what-so-ever. (cry)

3. Limited Spellcasting ability. (1 Hexblade spell a day if you have a high enough Char. Same goes for Palladin with a high wisdom.)

4. Heavier than Light armor interferes with Hexblade spells, but since you only get 1/day it should not be an issue.

Sub Build 1: Melee Oriented Crit Beast
Prefered Race: Human (For the Bonus Feat)
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Class: Fighter 1/Hexblade 4/Paladin of Tryranny 5/ Disciple of Dispater 10

Fight 1-    +1,                      +2/+0/+0, Power Attack, Combat Expertise, Disciple of Darkness
Hex   2-    +2,                      +2/+0/+2, Hexblade's Curse 1/day
Hex   3-    +3,                      +2/+0/+3, Arcane Resistance, Force of Personality
Hex   4-    +4,                      +3/+1/+3, Mettle
Hex   5-    +5,                      +3/+1/+4, Dark Companion
Pally 6-    +6/+1,                 +5/+1/+4, Aura of Evil, Detect Good, Smit Good 1/day, Free Feat
Pally 7-    +7/+2,                 +6/+1/+4, Divine Grace, Deadly Touch
Pally 8-    +8/+3,                 +6/+2/+5, Aura of Despair
Pally 9-    +9/+4,                 +7/+2/+5, Rebuke Undead, Improved Critical (Chosen Weapon)
Pally 10-  +10/+5,               +7/+2/+5, Smite Good 2/day, Special Mount
D-Dis 11- +11/+6/+1           +9/+4/+7, Device Lore
D-Dis 12- +12/+7/+2           +10/+5/+8, Iron Hews, Free Feat
D-Dis 13- +13/+8/+3           +10/+5/+8, Rusting Grasp
D-Dis 14- +14/+9/+4           +11/+6/+9, Iron Power +1
D-Dis 15- +15/+10/+5         +11/+6/+9, Summon Erinyes, Free Feat
D-Dis 16- +16/+11/+6/+1    +12/+7/+10, Greater Iron Hews
D-Dis 17- +17/+12/+7/+2    +12/+7/+10, Ironskin
D-Dis 18- +18/+13/+8/+3    +13/+8/+11, Iron Power +2, Free Feat
D-Dis 19- +19/+14/+9/+4    +13/+8/+11,
D-Dis 20- +20/+15/+10/+5  +14,+9,+11, Iron Body

Full BaB with monk saves and oh wait... the cheesiest crit stacking in the game? Dear lord it sounds like Disciple of Dispater fits my evil fighter blackguard role very nicely. Either use low threat range weapons for a possible 8-20 crit range at level 18. Or take a heavy hitting weapon like a x4 scythe and you almost have a 25% chance to crit each attack.

Alternate Sub Build 1 Build A:
Fighter 1/Ranger2/Hexblade 3/Paladin of Tryranny 4/ Disciple of Dispater 10
Lvl 3: TWF (Ranger Bonus)
Lvl 6: Improved TWF
Lvl 12: Greater TWF

For those who love to dual wield +1 Enfeebling Scimatars with a 8-20 critical threat range.

Alternate Sub Build 1 Build B:
Duskblade 5/Paladin of Tryanny 2/Fighter 2/Ranger 2/Warblade 1/Disciple of Dispater 8

Lvl 1: Power Attack, Combat Expertise
Lvl 3: Disciple of Darkness
Lvl 6: Craft Magic Arms and Armor
Lvl 8: Combat Reflexes
Lvl 9: Improved Crit (Chosen Weapon), Weapon Focus (Light Mace)
Lvl 11: Two Weapon Fighting
Lvl 12: Lightning Mace
Lvl 15: Weapon Focus (Chosen Weapon)

This last build is meant to abuse the cheese that is Aptitude Weapons. It is meant to be completely self sufficiant as far as creating your own aptitude weapons is concerned. Since Warblade allows you to change your weapon focus, if you find a better weapon to use then change your weapon focus to said weapon and enchant it with aptitude. I don't care much for it since it deviates from the flavor of build more than the original and Sub Build B.

I think that should be everything. Its still a work in progress, but I like where it is going. Please give me your advice and or comments. Thanks in advance.

Binder would fit in well with a Hexblade/PoT build. Two of the vestiges you can bind inflict (stacking) -2 penalties to saves, and one of those also lets you pounce on a charge and go ethereal at will. This kind of build works best when teamed up with a spellcaster that uses "save or dies" frequently.

You could also stick some monk levels in there. Evasion with your stellar saves is decent, and the penalties to the enemy's saves go well with your Stunning Fist attack.

Nice idea with the Binder.

Focolar's ability is called Tears of Sadness, while Chupoclops granted power is called Aura of Despiar.

Sadly so too is the Palladin of Tyranny's aura. The same ability granted by different classes don't stack unless otherwises noted. 2 Aura of Despairs would be lovely but I don't think they stack in this case. But the pounce feature could still proove useful. But the Aura of sadness brings our foes saves down by -6 before using Hexblades curse. Very nice.

So dump Palladin of Tyranny (or stop at level 2). More binder levels are better, anyway, IMO. :D

In all honesty I kept Pally 5 for the special mount. This was mainly done for flavor reasons. A big bad evil blackguard is nothing with his pimped out fiendish armored warhorse of doom!

The rest of the build has 10 levels to play around with, plenty of room for binder levels and what not.

But if you gain a heavy warhorse special mount through paladin, then at 20th level it'll have 42 HP even if you give it an amulet of health +6. If a DM ever decides to throw an area effect spell at you while this horse is too close, it doesn't have much survivability.

If you gain a heavy warhorse animal companion through the wild cohort feat, then at 20th level it'll have 172 HP with the same item. It will also have an extra +14 to AC and improved evasion, making it much less likely to be killed accidentally.

The blackguard's special mount is also based on total character level. So it is actually superior to palladin of tyranny in this regard.

Hmmm interesting. I totally forgot that the blackguards fiendish servant could also be a mount.

Technically I have plenty of levels to play around with so actually using a blackguard PrC in my build would make a lot of sense. So we could get something like

Hexblade 4/Palladin of Tryanny3/Blackguard 5/8 Insert Class (Something with Evasion would be nice)

Downside is that the palladin of tyranny's aura and the blackguards won't stack.

BUT... big question here.... would Divine Grace and Dark Blessing stack? They are both technically two different effects and since we went Palladin of Tryanny we won't lose Divine Blessing for going Blackguard. I'm pretty sure someone somewhere has already asked this and I doubt they do stack. But if they do.... god help the poor casters.

In my opinion, an “evil blackguard inspired skeleton build” demands the Bone Knight prestige class from Five Nations (Eberron).  Keeping with your theme, and inspired by LoP’s Twice-Betrayer of Shar, I recommend:

Race: Human
Alignment: Lawful Evil
Classes: Human Paragon 1/Paladin of Tyranny 2/Human Paragon 2/Ur-Priest 2/Bone Knight 10/Hexblade 3

Abilities:
Human Paragon 1: Class Skills [Bluff, Knowledge(arcana), Knowledge(religion), Knowledge(the planes), Spellcraft, Craft(armorsmithing), Ride, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Concentration], Adaptive Learning (Diplomacy)
Paladin of Tyranny 1: Aura of Evil, detect good, Smite Good 1/day
Paladin of Tyranny 2: Divine Grace, Deadly Touch
Human Paragon 2: Paragon Bonus Feat
Human Paragon 3: Charisma +2
Ur-Priest 1:
Ur-Priest 2: Rebuke Undead
Bone Knight 1: Bonecraft Armor, Paladin Conversion, Rebuke Undead
Bone Knight 2: Bone March, Summon Skeletal Steed
Bone Knight 3: Master of the White Banner
Bone Knight 4: Improved Bonecraft Armor
Bone Knight 5: Fill the Ranks 1/day
Bone Knight 6: Bonecraft Weapon
Bone Knight 7: Improved Bonecraft Armor
Bone Knight 8: Exoskeleton of Undeath
Bone Knight 9: Death Strike
Bone Knight 10: Improved Bonecraft Armor
Hexblade 1: Hexblade’s Curse 1/day
Hexblade 2: Arcane Resistance
Hexblade 3: Mettle

Feats:
1: Dynamic Priest, Power Attack, Extend Spell, Spell Focus: Evil, {Vulnerable}, {Shaky}
3: Persistent Spell
4: Reach Spell
5: Iron Will (Otyugh Hole)
6: Ocular Spell
9: Divine Metamagic (Persistent)
12: Divine Metamagic (Reach),
15: Divine Metamagic (Ocular Spell)
18: Practiced Spellcaster (Ur-Priest)

Dynamic Priest, from Legends of the Twins (Dragonlance), makes Charisma your primary spellcasting ability for determining bonus spells/level and max spell level, though your save DC's remain Wisdom based. Ocular Spell is from Lords of Madness, and Otyguh Hole from Complete Scoundrel.  If you don't feel like abusing nightsticks and DMM, you can drop Reach Spell, DMM: Reach, Ocular Spell, and DMM: Ocular, and take Extra Turning (twice), Ability Focus (Death Strike), and Divine Spell Power.

Charisma is used to determine your bonus spells, max spell level, turning attempts, the DC of your Death Strike, and is added to saves twice.  You have ninth level divine casting, and can persist nearly every printed cleric buff with liberal use of nightsticks.  Add in the immunities granted by your bonecraft armor, a skeletal steed, fractional BAB of 16, Mettle from your Hexblade levels, and a very respectable diplomacy score (always a class skill, high charisma), and you have a versatile, resilient character.

Grab a an item of Charisma +6, Tome of Leadership +5, Ring of Evasion, items to boost your turn attempts and caster level (Ankh of Ascension, Strand of Prayer Beads, Pale Green Ioun Stone, Orange Ioun Stone, Reliquary Holy Symbol), items to prevent your buffs from being dispelled (Ring of Enduring Arcana, Dispelling Chord), and, of course, as many nightsticks as you can afford.  If your DM allows Dragon material, check out the Gauntlets of Heartfelt Blows from Dragon 314, which add your Charisma bonus as fire damage to all attacks.

The primary drawback, other than mixing source material with Dragon Magazine and liberal abuse of RAI, is MAD: you need Charisma and Wisdom for spellcasting, an Intelligence of 14 to meet the skill prerequisities, and physical stats to be an effective gish before you are able to persist everything.
