honored CO people would you be so kind to critique the build i made for my next character. a red wizard.
i especialy need some advice on the feats ive chosen and the levels i should take after completing redwizard 10.
furthermore i can use any advice you can give me since it is going to be the first caster i play in years. thanks in advance.

the build:
wiz5,redwiz10

human:tatoo focus
wiz1:extend
wiz3:persist
wiz5:energy substitution
RW1:arcane disciple(competition)
RW4:metamagic schoolfocus
RW5:energy admixture
RW7:spellfocus

he will be specialist wizard transmutation and prohibit necromancy and enchantment. and for red wizard he will prohibit evocation.

ill be using my circle lvls for persisting divine power through rarys arcane conversion or spell engine.
to get the upperhand in casting touch and ray spells.

ill generate circle lvls by creating simulacrums of either myself or any powerfull wizard i can find.

the books im not allowed to use are tome of battle, incarnum, and psionics.

There's a Red Wizard handbook!

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1063876
Also, it is not clearly permissible to use Circle Levels or the Spell Engine to apply Persistent Spell. You will need DM cooperation to get away with it. If you are able to use Arcane Conversion at all, however, you probably will be able to obtain such permission.

Personally, I think Divine Power is not such an efficient solution, since you could instead use spells that are keyed to your caster level to make "attack rolls," Telekinesis for example or Mordenkainens Sword. Energy Substitution does not harmonize with the Divine Power strategy, either, unless you intend to use Energy Spheres, which will not benefit from your extreme caster level much at all.

You have invested a lot of feats into Divine Power and the improved blasting, but I think with a different suite of attack spells (see the guide) it might not be needed. If you wanted to try a more control oriented approach, use the traditional control spells and hunt down the special spells that will be really good at an obscene caster level. Then, you can take generally awesome feats like Extraordinary Concentration, Draconic Familiar, Craft Contingent Spell, Extraordinary Spell Aim, and such. The late Spell Focus is not doing anything at all: consider that it comes after you have been using Circle Magic to Heighten your attack spells to, oh, 20th level or so.

As for where to go after Red Wizard 10, Archmage is pretty hot. Master Specialist is good too. You want to save some feats for things you actually want: a few good choices in the right places will help out a lot. Do not spend them all on Prestige Prereqs!

thanx for the comment lormador.

i know there is a red wizard handbook online and i was already planning on using most of those insane control spells becouse whell, they work damn well.

thinking over your critiques (and quite some hours of scouting the bourds) i came up with the folowing.

ill drop the blasting feats and the spell focus.

human: collegiate wizard ( my dm is not so generous with scrolls)
wiz 1: scribe scroll, tatoofocus
wiz 3: extend spell
wiz 5: persist
RW 1: arcane disciple competition
RW 4: dragon familiar (lormador i love you for this power and functionality in one, and epic coolnesssss)
RW 5: craft contingent spell (the solution to the dominated fighter problem in our party)
RW 7: fiery burst (gives me al the blasting i need just heighten a fire spell to lvl 20 and i have 20d6 5ft blasts at will.
RW10: i was thinking about dimensional jaunt (same trick as with fiery burst to get some extra maneuvrability.
5 lvls something.

i've decided to reduce myself permanently and than persist righteous might to make me and my red dragon familiar larger and stronger. that way im still medium but my dragon will be large and able to function like a mount.

ill use the swift concentration skill trick to concentrate on spells like telekinesis as a swift action.

does anybody have thoughts on this?
how can i make those last lvls usefull, master of the unseen hand perhaps? ( the full attack telekinesis at lvl3 is real nice)
or should i skip the last two reserve feats for prereqs?

any thoughts welcome even if you think i should start all over tell me why.

You might want to check with your DM to see if Extraordinary Spell Aim can let you exclude yourself (and your familiar) from the effects of (for example) Antimagic Field. It's a pretty good defense when you're mounted on a really fast dragon, you've shared all your buffs with it. Cast invisibility, and you're a stealth bomber. You might want your mount to have Flyby Attack and some wands, and be sure you're up on the Polymorph rules.

Good find with the reserve feats! But if you're going to be doing all this attack roll boosting with Persistent Spell (and can get away with that, wow I wish my DM was so generous) you might as well take Invisible Needle over Fiery Burst.

Dimensional Jaunt is good. I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Alacritous Cogitation. I mean, it's right there in Complete Mage where you're shopping.

Yeah, contingent Protection from Evil will solve the dominated fighter problem very efficiently.

You want some more abilities after finishing Red Wizard? It hardly matters, but... Paragnostic Apostle from Complete Champion is really easy to get into, and it'll give you Lore as well as a host of minor abilities to choose from. Mind over Matter and Spatial Awareness will be nice to have.
