| #1luminieresolasSep 09, 2008 14:40:06 | i know a friend who wants to play a daggerspell mage, i want to help him get optimization advice. He and i need it preferrably before friday the 12th. Any legal build links would be accepted. Any handbook links are also accepted. His character was slain saturday, and he needs builds that explain through ECL 8 and above. EDIT: Our dm has ruled that Races must be picked out of player's handbook and you must own the book or at least have regular portable access. He owns Players handbook 1 and 2, Complete adventurer, Races of stone, and dungeon masters guide, 3 of his books are useless (unearthed arcana, monster manuals 1 and 5) (unless you count improved toughness from monster manual 5) i can help try to convince our dm to let him use stuff from his books. the guy goes on these boards, he and i are in the same group. The party needs a skill monkey and secondary arcanist, ( the primary arcanist comes every other session. we may possibly have the cleric problem fixed, (assuming the new guy is permanent) and the bard uses more healing and singing than anything. the pally (technically Dipped pally/fighter/knight. Ecl 8) uses wands out of battle. we just gotta invest in his wands.) |

| #3bigtunaSep 10, 2008 2:32:41 | Can't remember the whole build but something like this: Illumian (using dex for bonus spells) - +2 CL Rogue 1/ - to get sneak attack Wizard 3/ finally getting CL 5 Swordsage 1/ - to qualify for shadowhands (dex to dam) Daggerspell mage 10 Top of with weapon fitness (or fey crafted daggers from DMG2) (dex to hit) After that it's up to him - but a few levels of the unseen seer (Hunters Eye for more sneak attack) and/or Swordsage 2 - for assassins stance (+2d6 sneak). General idea use dex as much as possible - letting you use dex for AC, INI, to hit, dam and bonus spells. But here is a thread that might be of interest: http://forums.gleemax.com/wotc_archive/index.php/t-784137 - sneak attacking with arcane spell casteres I hope this helps/inspires |
| #4pithicaSep 10, 2008 11:00:58 | I just suggested the following build for a friend... It assumes that Practiced Spellcaster can qualify you for Daggerspell Mage, which I think got corrected at some point, but our DM just ruled works RAW. If it doesn't add a level of Wiz and Master Spell thief should. If that doesn't work either, add two levels of Wiz (dropping you to 13 BAB). Spell Thief 1/Wiz 1/Human Paragon 3/DagMage 4/Abjurant Champ 2/DagM +6/AbC +3 Feats: Two-Weapon Fighting (Bonus), Practiced Spellcaster-Wiz (3), Weapon Focus-Dagger (HP), Master Spellthief (6), Combat Casting (9) That's...@20 BAB 14, CL 17(21), Spell Thief 18(9th), SA +4d6, Saves 5/9/18 You won't be able to keep any of the spells you steal with Spellthief, but stealing them is pretty boss in it's own right. Easiest (and most legal) way to qualify for DagM is Rogue (or Spellthief) 1/Wiz 5. |
| #5zander_the_destroyerSep 10, 2008 11:34:47 | I happen to like this build for a Daggerspell mage, unfortunetly its very complicated and dosn't get into daggerspell mage untill lvl 11 Human Rogue 1 / Swashbuckler 1 / Swordsage 1 / Fighter 1 / Wizard 1 / Unseen Seer 2 / Swordsage 1 / Abjurant Champion 2 / Daggerspell Mage 10 Feats: Human Bonus: Able Learner Level 1: Quick Draw Swashbuckler 1: Weapon Fineese Level 3: Shadow Blade Swordsage 1: Weapon Focus (Shadow Hand Weapons) Fighter 1: Two Weapon Fighting Level 6: Combat Casting Unseen Seer 2: Silent Spell Level 9: Improved Two Weapon Fighting Level 12: Open (I like scult spell) Level 15: Greater Two Weapon Fighting Level 18: Open This build only work if you use fractional BAB and works much better if you can swing these alternate features Form Unearthed Arcana, Exchange Fighter Feats for Sneak Attack Also form Unearthed Arcana, Exchange Wizard Bonus Feats, including Scribe Scoll for Fighter Bonus Feats. This gets rid of a simi useless feat and allows you to get one more d6 of Sneak Attack From PHBII, exchange your familier for immidiate magic, I like abrupt jaunt If you pick up assassin's stance form your swordsage levels then you end up with 8d6 sneak attack and 7th lvl spells, grap spell storing daggers for more touch spell fun and then use vapric touch and wracking touch multiple times for battle. if you don't care about sneak attack as much, and want more int synergy then go with this build Human Rogue 1 / Swashbuckler 1 / Swordsage 1 / Swashbuckler 2 (total of 3 swash buckler levels) / Wizard 1 / Abjurant Champion 4 / Daggerspell Mage 10 |
