| #1wurmdarioOct 13, 2010 18:49:12 | I'm looking for the most Damage Reduction possible for the least cost for a melee fighter type. So far the best looking is the template "Mineral Warrior" (forgotten realms Underdark), 8/adamantine for 1 LA. The most seems to be Natural Lycantropy for a whoping 10/silver. But it's very expensive, with the 3 LA + racial dice. The feat Greater Resiliency from CW, +1 to racial or innate DR, is a must. PS: ignore all DR/magic since magic weapons are ubiquitous. |
| #2phoenix00Oct 13, 2010 19:03:28 | What level are you playing and what books do you have?PS: ignore all DR/magic since magic weapons are ubiquitous. Are you sure? One magic spell fixes all that ![]() |
| #3wurmdarioOct 14, 2010 1:18:47 | So far I've only gotten to 10th levelwhat books do you have? All Dungeons&Dragons books except Tome of Battle and Miniature Handbook XD!! I'm yet to see a Disjunction used, that would be soo cool :D |
| #4phoenix00Oct 14, 2010 6:04:06 | XD!! It isn't disjunction, it a spell called Mystic Shield from Anauroch: Empire of Shade, pg 141. It is an 8th level spell that prevents all spells and spell like abilities of 6th level and lower from affecting the target, with the exception of the spells the target casts on himself, furthermore it makes the target immune to all enhancement bonuses and special properties of magic weapons. Note this makes you immune to dispel magic, greater dispel, but not chain dispel Note this makes you immune to AMF via a Wizard or a Magic Domain cleric, does not make you immune to a AMF cast by a normal cleric, emulated via Wish, or emulated via Miracle |

| #7Maat_MonsOct 14, 2010 8:47:03 | It's not DR, but let me tell you about a trick for absorbing large amounts of damage. The martial spirit stance (Tome of Battle) allows you to heal yourself or an ally within 30 feet of 2 points of damage each time you make a successful melee attack. You can get this for one class level or two feats. The therapeutic mantle soulmeld (Magic of Incarnum) causes you to heal extra damage each time you are subject to a healing effect. This extra healing is equal to twice the amount of essentia you invest in the ability. (If it is a spell that does the healing, you add the spell level to the extra healing.) You can get this for one class level or one feat. Azurin (Magic of Incarnum) is a variant human that gets 1 point of essentia instead of extra skill points. The bonus essentia feat (Magic of Incarnum) gives you 2 points of essentia. With what I have described, you can heal 6 extra points of damage every time you are subject to a healing effect. (With more investment, it's possible to get that up to 12.) So, you can heal a total of 8 points of damage every time you make a successful melee attack. This can produce significant healing on a full attack, particularly if you use two weapons. The Robilar's gambit feat (Player's Handbook II) gives you an attack of opportunity every time someone attacks you in melee (regardless of success). Conveniently, the feat says this attack of opportunity is resolved after your opponent's attack. This means you can retaliate against your attacker and heal some of the damage he inflicted. The double hit feat (Miniatures Handbook) lets you make two melee attacks as an attack of opportunity if you wield two weapons. This can double your healing on attacks of opportunity. |
| #8wurmdarioOct 14, 2010 8:52:47 | =), that is very impressive , I take my hat off to you. (I won't use this personally as "Tome of Battle" is the only book outlawed over here XD, but still, pretty awesome) |
| #9TelinArthoOct 14, 2010 9:22:49 | The most seems to be Natural Lycantropy for a whoping 10/silver. But it's very expensive, with the 2 LA + racial dice. Natural Lycanthropy is actually +3 LA (+ racial dice) for 10/silver; Afflicted is +2 LA (+racial dice) for 5/silver I've actually found that if you can't get DR x/--, then DR x/Magic and x is pretty effective. For instance, a lycanthrope with armor of invulnerability become much nastier with DR 5/magic and silver I'm big on the DR x/alignment as well - which can be gotten from the mantle of faith (76kgp for 5/evil) and stoneskin's DR 10/adamantine is pretty good as well. |
