| #1SIKBUZAug 29, 2008 9:23:02 | I've searched the boards but haven't seen a Spellwarp Sniper.. These look deadly.. I think we should optimise one. 28 point buy, up to 16th level, all wizards books except tome of battle/tome of magic and no psionics Maybe a mage killer - I was thinking operating within an antimagic field woud be good if possible? Can you sculpt an antimagic field? I've been thinking: Rogue 2/Wizard 5/Spellwarp Sniper 9 Level 1 -Rogue - Point Blank Shot (Sneak Attack) Level 2 - Rogue - (Evasion) Level 3 - Wizard - Feat? Level 4 - Wizard - +1 Int Level 5 - Wizard - Level 6 - Wizard - Feat Level 7 - Wizard - Bonus Feat Level 8 - Spellwarp - +1 Dex, Spellwarp Level 9 - Spellwarp - Feat, Sudden Raystrike 1d6 Level 10 - Spellwarp - Precise Shot Level 11 - Spellwarp - Sudden Raystrike 2d6 Level 12 - Spellwarp - +1 Dex, Feat, Ray Mastery (sneak damage within 60ft, Coupe de grace, sudden empower) Level 13 - Spellwarp - Sudden Raystrike 3d6 Level 14 - Spellwarp - Level 15 - Spellwarp - Feat, Sudden Raystrike 4d6 Level 16 - Spellwarp - Now Feats i think would work well are: Point Blank Shot - Required Reach Spell Split Ray Sudden Maximise Sudden Empower 2 More? Gold Available: A meager $1,000,000 So any help..? Ideas? |
| #2CantripNAug 29, 2008 10:02:27 | Thou shalt not lose caster levels! Evasion isn't worth a spellcasting level! Take 2 levels in Divine Oracle if you want it that much. In other news, a Spellthief (+the Master Spellthief feat) are a much better entry. Spellthief 1/Wizard X/Spellwarp Sniper X is a good start. |
| #3iconoplastAug 29, 2008 10:24:53 | Alternately, start Rogue/Able Learner, take the skills to get into Unseen Seer, then retrain the Rogue level once you've got Sneak Attack. |
| #4SimDawgAug 29, 2008 13:46:15 | Spellwarp sniper has 5 levels. Anything more than that is technically homebrew. |
| #5phaedrusxyAug 29, 2008 14:52:31 | Alternately, start Rogue/Able Learner, take the skills to get into Unseen Seer, then retrain the Rogue level once you've got Sneak Attack. Nice retraining abuse... How would that work with the skill points, though? And can you retrain your first level? |
| #6sundance8503Aug 29, 2008 15:35:48 | I have tried to make a good build with a Spellwarper but I can't. Why? Because when you cast spells you only cast one spell per round...so you can sit with a big 10d6 fireball and adding like 6d6 to it...but in the end it is only 16d6 when my invisible blade rogue can be doing her 9d6 with each of her feinting hits for a total of 36d6... Dunno how to make a build good enough because I love that class... ![]() D |
| #7CantripNAug 29, 2008 16:00:20 | A Spellwarp Sniper is a Wizard first and foremost, not a Rogue. That is to say it has better things to do than SA people all day long (though it can do so if the situation warrnats it). |
| #8sundance8503Aug 29, 2008 16:26:33 | Meh...to me that class screams out Rogue...not a caster. It is a class with more rogue potiental than wizard...more of a rogue dabbling the arcane world. They can only spellwarp a spell of 5th level or lower...so what is the use of having the class while trying to make a good wizard when you can only use lower level spells for it's 'big power'? Maybe I see it differently...all I know is I would love to see a great build using the class but have yet to find one D |
| #9iconoplastAug 29, 2008 16:57:44 | Maybe I see it differently...all I know is I would love to see a great build using the class but have yet to find one Requires retraining Abuse: Kobold w/Cheese (LA Buyoff White Dragonspawn, Greater Rite of Passage) Sorcerer 1 / Incantatrix 9 / Spellwarp Sniper 4 / Sacred Exorcist 1/ Silver Pyromancer 5 Sorc. lv 21 casting Wings of Flurry with Arcane Thesis / Practical Metamagic / Split Ray / Energy Sub (Fire) (Now sacred, thanks to SP 5) / Energy Admixture / Quicken. (Note: Unlike the Unseen Seer retraining abuse, there's no skill problem here) Nice retraining abuse... How would that work with the skill points, though? And can you retrain your first level? Thanks - I'm not sure how it would work. Unseen Seer gets 6+Int/lv, and requires 28 cross class skill levels, so I guess you'd retrain after Unseen Seer 5? |
| #10SIKBUZAug 29, 2008 17:01:20 | Well to be honest i do think Evasion is worth it. Practised Spellcaster feat takes care of the levels. Yes, after Lvl 5 it is homebrew i guess but you can only warp spell level up to your spellwarp sniper level. And makes sense the sneak damage would increase as it was before. When you cast a sudden maximised, spellwarped, split ray cone of cold it would mean hitting the touch armourclass (+14 bonus to this without items) with both. No problem most of the time. which means 90 damage x 2, no save due to being spellwarped. 180 damage - not too bad. Plus 5d6 each ray with sneak if you catch them off-guard (which you would by this level..) So what about trying to improve chances of getting a critical with the rays? And magic items to boost (eg gloves of dex are a must). As above, i'd like to work out of an antimagic field but still cast and if possible use magic items.. Any ideas on how to do this? |
| #11wazaboAug 29, 2008 17:14:39 | It's not worth it, getting new spell one level later is a really_really bad thing. Considering you can buy a ring of evasion for 20k? While it's quite hard to buy a caster level. I would say almost impossible. |
| #12SIKBUZAug 29, 2008 17:21:32 | Ah ring of evasion, lol why did i not think of that Ok so remove one level of rogue and add one of? |
| #13wazaboAug 29, 2008 17:34:59 | Isn't spellwarp a 5 level prc? Maybe some level deep into Unseen seer. You get some bonus d6 and full caster level. Rogue 1 - Wiz 5 - Spellwarp 5 - Unseen seer 9 . CL 19 (20 with practiced spellcaster, 23 Divination) 6d6 of sneak attack. And quite a lot of skills. |
| #14eldarielAug 30, 2008 18:08:43 | I suggest Sorcerer-base for Spellwarped Sniper. Gets you Wings of Flurry - an awesome spell to Rayify. For a Skill Monkey-base though, Wizard of course works better due to the Int-focus. As a Sniper, Wings is just tasty. Heck, Archivist could be an awesome alternative to combine the both - the class only specifies "3rd-level spells". |
| #15mdsummerAug 30, 2008 22:17:23 | the class only specifies "3rd-level spells". For that matter, there was some discussion on a Kobold domain Cleric Spellwarp Sniper. |

| #17eldarielAug 31, 2008 3:18:23 | Races of the Dragon, 4th-level Sorcerer-only Evocation that deals uncapped up-to-CL damage and forces a Reflex-save vs. daze to a 30' burst centered on you. Guess what happens when you fire a ray of it? That's right, no Reflex-save, automatic uncapped 1d6 damage and no-save Daze! Only problem is, it allows Spell Resistance, but hey, that's what Assay Resistance is for! |
| #18reisAug 31, 2008 3:33:04 | what would the range be, 30'? |
| #19eldarielAug 31, 2008 4:02:29 | Correct. Still plenty. Technically you could actually Widen the spell and then Warp it. That way it would be 60'. Would have to be done with a Rod though since Widen is unbelievably expensive (+3!!) |

If you have a Dragon character using it (Kobold, Dragon Born of Bahamut, etc.) you could lower Widen with Practical Metamagic. |
