| #1lefatalisteApr 02, 2010 5:22:19 | Hi there! A simple question, the Death Attack Class Ability of the Assassin stack with Death Attack Class Ability of the Prestige Class "Substitution Killer" (Dragon Magazine#312) or Black Flame Zelot or else in order to calculate the DC against Death? Are there any Official clarification about that? Thanks F. |
| #2dark86Apr 02, 2010 5:54:22 | Black Flame Zealot's Death Attack says it stacks with Assassin levels to determine the DC. (Unapproachable East, pg 22) However, the Replacement Killer's entry in Dragon 312 doesnt mention that. Hope that helps. |
| #3lefatalisteApr 02, 2010 6:40:04 | Thanks! Really Helpful! Than could be that every death attack stack.. dunno.. |
| #4BalthanonApr 02, 2010 7:26:43 | I think most DMs will allow Death attack to stack regardless of the wording-- I just don't think they standardized the text on it like they did with Sneak Attack since it was used less frequently. |

| #6dark86Apr 02, 2010 11:57:42 | Build by Zaxter: Race: Halfling (Major Fey Bloodline) Build: Bloodline 3/Cleric 3/Rogue 2/Assassin 8/Black Dog 2/Black Flame Zealot 1/Uncanny Trickster 1 Feats: Feats (assuming BFZ's exotic weapon proficiency actually meant weapon focus): Level 1: Martial Weapon Proficiency (Kukri) Bloodline 2: Iron Will Level 3: Weapon Focus (Kukri) Level 6: Least Dragonmark (Mark of Hospitality) Bloodline 8: Alertness Level 9: Ability Focus (Death Attack) Level 12: Practiced Spellcaster (Assassin) Level 15: (Open) Level 18: (Open) Suggested equipment: Headband of Intellect +6 Tome of Clear Thought +5 Collar of Umbral Metamorphosis (continuous) Assassin's Dagger Bracers of Murder This character's INT mod will be: INT = 34 (+12) Death Attack DC: 10 (base) + 12 (INT) + 11 (Assassin) + 4 (BFZ) + 5 (Black Dog) + 3 (UT) + 2 (Ability Focus) +2 (Bracers of Murder) + 1 (Assassin's Dagger) = DC 50 (52 if Sudden Ability Focus is used) Assassin caster level = 18 With the spell Deathsight and a Metamagic Rod (Quicken), you can complete 3 rounds of study as a swift action! And since hiding is part of a move action, you can Death Attack somebody in only one round: Deathsight [swift], move+hide [move], kill [standard]. Thanks to your Hide in Plain Sight (twice, even) you can hide right under your enemy's nose as long as you're not in daylight or are within 10 feet of a shadow (oh hey, most enemies cast shadows!). ![]() |
| #7phoenix00Apr 02, 2010 12:15:57 | Where is deathsight located? Also you would want to polymorph into a Marruspawn for Marruspawn get a death attack that is ex and is a special attack. Thus you use this ability to stack all your death attacks onto. |
| #8angellusmortusApr 02, 2010 15:14:05 | Wow, I hadn't seen that build that Dark posted...that's freaking nasty. If for whatever reason you don't want to go that complicated, a nice simple build is a combo of the Black Flame Zealot and the Strifeleader PrC from Forgotten Realms. Strifeleader 10 gives you +4 Death Attack DC, in addition to the 10 from level; fill out the rest with BFZ. |
| #9kypriothApr 02, 2010 22:28:07 | Where is the black dog class located? I can't seem to find any reference to it on google. :'( |

| #11kypriothApr 03, 2010 0:49:50 | Where is deathsight located? Found it, finally. It's in complete mage. |
| #12dark86Apr 03, 2010 7:33:02 | Yup, its a 4th level assassin spell, pg 90 of Complete Mage. Allows you to skip the observation rounds for the death attack. |
| #13dark86Apr 03, 2010 7:39:04 | An alternative build by Zaxter: (without Black Dog) Race: Gray Elf (Major Fey Bloodline) Build: Bloodline 3/Cleric 3/Rogue 2/Assassin 10/Black Flame Zealot 1/Uncanny Trickster 1 Feats (assuming BFZ's exotic weapon proficiency actually meant weapon focus): Level 1: Martial Weapon Proficiency (Kukri) Bloodline 2: Iron Will Level 3: Weapon Focus (Kukri) Level 6: (Open) Bloodline 8: Alertness Level 9: Ability Focus (Death Attack) Level 12: Practiced Spellcaster (Assassin) Level 15: (Open) Level 18: (Open) Suggested equipment: Headband of Intellect +6 Tome of Clear Thought +5 Collar of Umbral Metamorphosis (continuous) Assassin's Dagger Bracers of Murder Assuming an 18 base, the character's INT should be as follows: 18 (base) + 2 (race) + 5 (levels) + 5 (Tome) + 6 (headband) = 36 (+13) Black Flame Zealot's Death Attack says it stacks with Assassin levels to determine the DC. Let us also assume that Uncanny Trickster levels were used to increase the character's effective Assassin level, and that bloodlines increase UT's "+1 level of class abilities" for level-dependent calculations. With an Assassin's Dagger (or Assassin's Kukri, perhaps), the character's Death Attack DC should be as follows: 10 (base) + 13 (Int mod) + 13 (Assassin) + 4 (Black Flame Zealot) + 3 (Uncanny Trickster) + 2 (Ability Focus) +2 (Bracers of Murder) + 1 (Assassin's Dagger) = DC 48 (50 if Sudden Ability Focus is expended) Also, with the addition of Practiced Spellcaster, our Assassin friend manages a Caster Level of 20 (13 Assassin + 3 UT + 4 PS) |
| #14bearisbrownApr 04, 2010 11:27:13 | In Dragon Magazine there is a prestige class that is 5 levels long and the DC is 2*level. |
