Any improvements are welcome! |
| #2mervin_magnusAug 14, 2009 18:01:38 | I'm kinda stuck, I want too many lvls @.@ I want 4 levels of Master Specialist to get the bonus to dispels* I want 3 levels of Incantrix to presist cheese my buffs I want 1 level of Archmage to get Mastery of Counterspelling I want 7 levels of Initiate of the 7 Fold Veil because of its cheese I want at least 2 levels of Ur-Preist for Turn Undead (and caster level of 3) I want a prestige class that'll boost my Ur-Preist another level (for feat) *This is the first thing I would let go in this build Current Revised Build: Abjurer 2/ Master Specialist 4/ Initiate fo the 7 Fold Veil 7/ Ur-Preist 2/ Mystic Theurge 1/ Incantrix 3/ Archmage 1 It has full Iot7FV levels level 3 cleric spells (caster level 11) level 9 arcane spells (caster level 18) persist cheese on all my buffs (I persuaded my DM persist cheese work on initiate veils) With Divine Defiance, I can counterspell as an immediate action The main reason I took Master Specialist is lessen the need of feats, but if you guys got some good suggestions, I'd probably drop it Any ideas anyone? I'm open for anything |
| #3mervin_magnusAug 17, 2009 17:12:32 | New Build! I personally want to optimize this beyond imaginaiton because my friend keeps on bugging me about mages being the best class so I purposely want to come up with somethign that will completely ruin them. Classes: Abjurer 2/ Cloistered Cleric 1/ Master Specialist 4/ Iot7FV 7/ Incantrix 3/ Pragnostic Apostle 2/ Archmage 1 Feats: F: Precocious Apprentice F: Spellfire Weilder (i just like how it fits for this build) 1: Spell Focus (abjuration) 3: Practiced Spellcaster (Cleric) 6: Divine Defiance 9: Arcane Mastery 12: Persistant Spell (I got Extend Spell from Metamagic Storm) 15: Invest Spell (dragon magazine, i lose spell slot so i can cast specific spell 3/day) 18: Spell Focus (conjuration) For this build: Inquisition Domain: +4 to dispels Pragnostic Apostle: +1 to dispels Archamge: reflect counterspelled spells Master Specialist: +2 to dispels (plus needed feats) Pragnotic Apostle: +10 to Spellcraft check (good for dispels and incantrix) Iot7FV: makes it harder to dispel abjurations (dispel magic is abjuration) and +4 to dispel checks against abjurations Any suggestions? Now I'm really looking into what items would be very beneficial to this build... Current List: Nightsticks (woot!) Orange Ioun Stone (make up for the lvl of cleric) Pearl of Power? (get back those GDMs) Ring of Arcane Might (bonus to caster level) Ring of Spell Battle (redirect spell instead of reflection is useful) Ring of Greater Counterspells (useful if I run out of turn attempts, and if I face a fellow counterspeller) Hand of Glory (for the extra ring) |
| #4mining_monkAug 18, 2009 5:04:40 | Correct me if I'm wrong, but a mage could just have Greater Celerity, quickened greater celerity, contingent celerity, maximized (rod) extended (rod) empowered (rod) time stop, would just walk in, out spell you, then TS, plane shift to their fast time plane and cast an epic spell that summons 12 HD/10 minutes casting. They could bust 72*24 = 1728 HD of creatures, or 78 solars in 1 second on Prime Plane, easily. Now, can you counter 78 miracles cast at you within 10 seconds of *seeing* the enemy instantaneously? |

I fail to see how changing GC casting time from immediate to swift would help us. Also nothing forbids this char to use contingent celerities or dire tortoise form for a 100% sure surprise round. What is more frightening is that in high-cheese setting one does not battle mage, but astral projection of his clone. Who may or may not be invincible, flying, self-aware stronghold. The thing is - if you encounter highly cheesy opponents no 'kosher' char is going to help - you'll just lose. What you count on, is that your DM isn't power tripping ******* and mages to slay are not using all CO knowledge. Or you could shapeshift into a Sarrukh. The option is there all the time. Build looks good for anything resembling normal game ;) Few pointers - Spellfire Weilder is very cool and flavorful. And it sucks. What about talking with DM about reflavoring a blasting spell? DCFS Precocious Apprentice. It served its role, it can go. For items - I think Carnivore had a very nice list of caster-friendly items somewhere. |
