| #1casualgathererMar 08, 2009 20:57:15 | For 3.5. It has to be a divine spellcaster with some reasonable healing abilities, and i would prefer a Cleric/Druid (cause i have only got the PHB, although if there is other ones...) I've played Clerics before, and i always kinda morph into a heal-stick after a while, so i want a hero that can participate more strongly than just "cure serious" "cure minor" "cure major" "oh, that wound looks bad, Heal". Just a basic, level 10 build with feats, some item choices and some suggested skills to max out. Edit: Prestige Classes from anywhere, as long as you tell me where. Some reccomended prestige if i don't fit the requirements at 10th level. Don't worry about multiclassing to fit a prestige class. Also, i've always loved the Cleric/Rogue classes... |
| #2carnivoreMar 09, 2009 5:48:41 | try a Cleric Archer works even in Core only games :D |
| #3chibishuffleMar 09, 2009 7:53:01 | dwarf druid 10 max out concentration, spellcraft, knowledge nature and survival. The only feat you will have to take is natural spell at sixth the rest is open. Dump CHA into the ground focus on CON and WIS when allocating scores. To improve healing I recommend getting access to complete divine for the feats augmented healing and spontaneous healer. |
| #4lormadorMar 09, 2009 10:00:19 | The above posted strong melee/ranged techniques.... how about the skill angle? Cloistered Cleric (from UA) gets 6 points per level... with the right domains you can get nice things as class skills... the Trickery domain or the Kobold domain for example. Or, you could take level 1 in Rogue with Able Learned, and then advance Cloistered Cleric... ...which is, after all, still one of the top-tier skill monkeys along with Factotum and Beguiler. |
| #5carnivoreMar 09, 2009 11:24:07 | heres another easy one: Warlock 1/ Cloistered Cleric 4/ Eldritch Disciple 5 gain the following: 9th lvl Cleric abilities 6th lvl Warlock abilities: 3d6 EB 3 least Invocations
All Seeing Eyes (CM): +6 Search and spot bonus and comprehend language for written things Beguiling Influence: +6 Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate See the Unseen: See Invisibility -and- Darkvision
1 lesser
Fell Flight .... 24 hour Fly
:D |
| #6chibishuffleMar 09, 2009 14:08:00 | According to the OP he only has the PHB, we should probably try and stick to that to be helpful. |
| #7carnivoreMar 09, 2009 15:39:43 | According to the OP he only has the PHB, we should probably try and stick to that to be helpful. ... i knew i was forgetting something... try this:Core only: Wood Elf(+2 Str, +2 Dex, -2 Con, -2 Int) Ranger 1/ Cleric 7/ Thaumaturgist 2 Patron: Ehlonna Domains: Animal, Plant BAB +7 Attributes: (assuming 32pt buy) 12 Str(10 +2 Racial) 20 Dex(14 +2 Racial+4 Gloves) 12 Con(14 -2 Racial) 12 Int(14 -2 Racial) 18 Wis(14 +2 lvls+2 Amulet) 16 Cha(14 +2 Cloak) Feats: Track(ranger bonus) Augment Summoning(Thaumaturgist bonus) 1st lvl: Point Blank Shot 3rd lvl: Precise Shot 6th lvl: Spell Focus(Conjuration) 9th lvl: Weapon Focus(Composite longbow) Equipment:(49000 GP) 16000gp +4 Gloves of Dex 4000gp +2 Amulet of Wisdom 4000gp +2 Cloak of Charisma 2500gp Ring of Sustenance 2500gp Boots of the Winterlands 2375gp +1 Longbow 25gp Holy symbol, silver 1800gp Efficient quiver 3000gp Rod of extend, lesser 3000gp 3x Pearl of Power (1st lvl spells) 750gp Wand Cure light wounds 2000gp Handy Haversack 600gp lots of Arrows......some Alchemical Silver,..some Cold Iron....some regular 320gp Masterwork Rapier 1205gp +1 Darkwood buckler 2100gp +1 Mithral Chain Shirt 200gp......2x War Ponies(trained)...one to be riden, one for carrying supplies...both are combat ready and can fight 150gp......6x Guard Dogs(trained).....trained for various things 400gp Acid flasks(40) 400gp Alchemists fire(20) 150gp Antitoxin(3) 110gp Everburning torch 200gp Holywater(8) 100gp Smoke sticks(5) 300gp Thunderstones(10) 250gp Tanglefoot Bags(5) 48435gp spent.... 565gp left to spend.... Scrolls(1@ 2nd lvl spell, 16 @ 1st lvl spells) would be a good investment Final Build should look like this: Ranger 1/ Cleric 15/ Thaumaturgist 4 continued feat progression: 12th lvl: Quicken Spell 15th lvl: Rapid Shot 18th lvl: Improved Precise Shot :D |
| #8casualgathererMar 09, 2009 17:28:26 | Don't worry about sticking to the PHB, i'd just prefer not using base classes/PrC (or domains) from books like PGtF and other setting specific books. My DM really doesn't like them. I like the idea of a Cleric Archer, if that idea could be fleshed out a bit... The Warlock thing looks the most appealing though, on a quick skim. I'd love a skilled cleric, and playing as a cleric rogue still appeals to me. EDIT: Doing my own research here, Is the PrC from Complete Divine, Geomancer, worth a look? it does have full caster level progression, so i'll only be missing out on the two levels of arcane that i have to take. Second Edit... Dont worry too much about attributes, we will be rolling them. |
| #9jameswilliamogleMar 09, 2009 17:49:07 | There's a link at the top of this forum called "Some Handy Links for Optimization Work" and it is an excellent guide for this kind of request. There's a few Cleric Handbooks linked there. If you REALLY want to be strong, Divine Metamagic is in Complete Divine, and when combined with either Quicken or Persistant Spell really will be powerful (perhaps too powerful - use your descretion). |
| #10casualgathererMar 09, 2009 18:11:42 | My DM is pretty good at cracking down on Divine Metamagic. i think i'll pass on it for now. Im sort of adding new restrictions as i go along, based on what my DM tells me as he fleshes the world out. the newest update (which was literally just now...) is no psions without an extremely good reason. not that this thread seems to be focusing on psionics, and i don't think that thread was directed at me as much. |
| #11jameswilliamogleMar 09, 2009 19:26:20 | The Archer-Clerics are pretty darn good. More-or-less one stat dependent, too. |
| #12casualgathererMar 09, 2009 19:47:54 | MY stats: 18 (wis) 16 (con) 15 (int) 14 (dex) 14 (cha) 10 (str) (are for me. changes are fine, but please please please don't tell me to put cha at 10.) Also, No races from the MM. Grr... still want a roguish character, and an archer looks nice. The problem im finding is mostly that i still need some healing ability, so i can't just go Cleric 4 Rogue 2 Shadowdancer 4 or something like that. I think my build will end up as a Cloistered Cleric (via SRD!) into some prestige class which gives sneak attack and caster progression. Any reccomendations? |
| #13carnivoreMar 10, 2009 4:52:43 | if you are allowed some other sources: Base Classes: Cloistered Cleric(Unearthed Arcana) Warlock(Complete Arcane) PrC: Eldritch Disciple(Complete Mage) Feats: Knowledge Devotion(Complete Champion) Zen Archery(Complete Warrior) for a Skilled character.... Cloistered Cleric is the way to go.... Ranger is also nice, since it gives a major boost to Saves, BAB, Skills, Weapon Proficencies, HD ... Rogue is good, great for skills, but thats about it if you are allowed Alternative class features... you could take the Trapfinding Ranger Variant from Dungeonscape and do very well with that also for a more complete version: Human Warlock 1/ Cloistered Cleric 4/ Eldritch Disciple 5... (not in that order, Cloistered Cleric is first) Patron: Principle or ideal(no patron) Domains: Knowledge(Cloistered Cleric bonus) Elf ..... gives Point Blank Shot Magic ... Use scrolls, wands, and other devices with spell completion or spell trigger activation as a wizard of one-half your cleric level (at least 1st level). Attributes(using your stat array) 10 Str 14 Dex 16 Con 15 Int 18 Wis 14 Cha Feats: Precise shot(Human Bonus) 1st lvl: Practiced Caster(Cleric) 3rd lvl: Knowledge Devotion 6th lvl: Zen Archery 9th lvl: Summon Elemental(Reserve) Summon Elemental feat Summon Elemental[Reserve](Complete Mage)Prerequisite: Ability to cast 4th-level spells. Benefit: As long as you have a summoning spell of 4th level or higher available to cast, you can summon a Small elemental (air, earth, fire, or water; your choice) within a range of 30 feet. The elemental acts as if summoned by a summon monster spell (PH 285). The duration of the summoning is equal to 1 round per level of the highest-level conjuration (summoning) spell you have available to cast. You can have only one summoned elemental from this feat at a time; if you use the ability a second time, the first elemental disappears. Also, you must remain close to the elemental you summon. If at the end of your turn you are more than 30 feet from the elemental, it disappears. If you have a conjuration (summoning) spell of 6th level or higher available to cast, you can summon a Medium elemental instead. If you have a conjuration (summoning) spell of 8th level or higher available to cast, you can summon a Large elemental instead. As a secondary benefit, you gain a +1 competence bonus to your caster level when casting conjuration (summoning) spells. |
| #14casualgathererMar 10, 2009 9:24:10 | Ok, im using an Eldritch Theurge. We shall see how it goes, thanks for the help! |
| #15vapthorneMar 10, 2009 9:53:14 | Human There's a few things that I've noticed about this build that got me wondering. 1) One of the requirements for being an Eldritch Disciple is to worship an evil/chaotic deity. To me that, that implies you cannot be a cleric that follows an ideal. 2) A human cleric with the elf domain? This is a personal opinion, but that sounds kind of iffy without a elaborate back story to explain it. Keep that in mind. 3) Finally, I'm not convinced that the Magic Domain is the best choice. According to RAW, you can only use wizard-only items that are half your cleric level. That's means you can use wizard-item at are 2nd level and lower, maybe level 4 at the upper levels. Personally, I like the Eldritch Disciple build. But, you might want to consider a different choice of domains. Choose a deity with access to the trickery domain. Not sure what I do for the second domain (or ACF, like Divine Magician from Complete Mage) |
| #16vapthorneMar 10, 2009 11:30:05 | Using Carnivore's idea as a spring board, I've pieced together this build. Race: Human Class: Cloistered Cleric 4 / Warlock 1 / ED 5 Deity Choice 1: Olidammara | Domains: Trickery, Luck or Celerity. Deity Choice 2: Tiamat | Domains: Trickery, Scalykind (for a access to Shapechange at level 9) ASF: Knowledge Devotion B: Improved Initiate 1: Practiced Spellcaster 3: Zen Archery 6: Travel Devotion 9: Extra Turning Travel Devoution is a good feat because you then take two standard actions in a round, which means you can fire two eldritch blasts for fun and profit. Extra Turning is used to get more mileage out of Travel Devotion. If you choose Tiamat, ask your DM if you can use the Scalykind's domain rebukes to fuel Patron Gift / Travel Devotion. Those two deity are my suggestions. Feel free to change to any patron/domain that suits your concept. However, whoever you choose make sure you can take the Travel Devotion feat. |
| #17phaedrusxyMar 10, 2009 11:36:38 | There's a few things that I've noticed about this build that got me wondering. I'm sure there is an elf with the magic domain. They are all chaotic, and they all have the elf domain, IIRC. It certainly shouldn't be a problem choosing a deity that fits. 2) A human cleric with the elf domain? This is a personal opinion, but that sounds kind of iffy without a elaborate back story to explain it. Keep that in mind. I've said the same thing about his other human cleric builds with that. :D 3) Finally, I'm not convinced that the Magic Domain is the best choice. According to RAW, you can only use wizard-only items that are half your cleric level. That's means you can use wizard-item at are 2nd level and lower, maybe level 4 at the upper levels. You use them as if you were a wizard of half your cleric level. Which means you can use any staff or wand with 0% chance of problems, even if you're a cleric 2 (or maybe even cleric 1). If you try to use a scroll that's technically too high, you'll have to make some checks, but you still have a chance of it working. |
| #18carnivoreMar 10, 2009 14:56:56 | There's a few things that I've noticed about this build that got me wondering. good point... i was doing it from memory.... as PhaedrusXY said.... here are some examples: Corellon Larethian(CG) domains: Chaos, Community, Elf, Good, Magic, Pride, Protection, War, Zeal ..... Weapon: Longsword there are more... but they are Mainly Forgotten Realms setting 2) A human cleric with the elf domain? This is a personal opinion, but that sounds kind of iffy without a elaborate back story to explain it. Keep that in mind. it would simply be a RP thing(human baby found by Elves after parents were killed by Orc raiding party.... raised by elves) 1/2 Elf will also work... as will Elf(Elf requires Warlock 2/ Cloistered Cleric 4 to start to avoid Xp penalties) 3) Finally, I'm not convinced that the Magic Domain is the best choice. According to RAW, you can only use wizard-only items that are half your cleric level. That's means you can use wizard-item at are 2nd level and lower, maybe level 4 at the upper levels. +1 what PhaedrusXY said Personally, I like the Eldritch Disciple build. But, you might want to consider a different choice of domains. Choose a deity with access to the trickery domain. Not sure what I do for the second domain (or ACF, like Divine Magician from Complete Mage) Divine Magician is a fun variant to use.... but you dont really need it :D |
| #19casualgathererMar 14, 2009 10:33:06 | I actually ended up being a Half-Elf, just because everyone else in the party was human (cept for a single dwarf...) to give the party some diversity. My backstory changed lots though. The Cleric Archer is working well (i dropped Elemental Summoning, since im not human) and no one is complaining about having no healing. Now, they want a wizard, but im not gonna deal with that.... |
| #20reisMar 14, 2009 10:47:51 | Cleric10/Fist of Raziel10 (BoED) or some variation thereof is another classic build |
| #21casualgathererMar 14, 2009 11:44:15 | BoED, BoVD and UA are not allowed. |
| #22reisMar 14, 2009 12:22:33 | tome of battle? ruby knight vindicator is a very potent cleric hybrid |
| #23casualgathererMar 14, 2009 20:11:14 | I don't think so. It might be though. Not to be rude or anything, but i've already started the character, and Ruby Knight Vindicator doesn't look like it'll be happening here. Also, to clarify my last post, paragons and bloodlines aren't allowed from UA. BoED and BoVD are still offlimits though. |
