Okay .. I got this War campaign where I got 7 nations and 10-25 factions .. the players grp start in a faction and the story will then fold its way through the continent, the nations and the factions.

The campain is a War campaign, and the missions will be after it(sabotaing, kidnapping, infiltrating, escorting, messages carring etc).
The PC grp will start at lvl 3 PC and, from what I can see will be 2 fighters, 1 ranger, 1 Sorcerer and 1 druid.

Anyway .. My problem is that I need a "Info/assistant/planting/plotting" NPC who can help the PC grp behind the enemies lines when they are on missions there.

We had a DM char last time we played, and we have learned that it DON'T! work well at all .. so this char will not be a DM char who play whit the grp as a part of the grp, but a standard NPC who, from time to time, will assist the grp in some missions or just give them some informations or point them in a direction for some missions etc. . So I still want to make this char as "real" as possible, and not just some standard NPC found in some book.

BG story is that he is a form of secret agent, and he specials is information gathering, sabotaging and "Hit&Run" missions etc. And works nearly all his time behind the enemies line and always(okay: Nearly always) alone.

I have been thinking about make him a Dread Commando as soon as possible ..

But I don't know what class to make him from the start.

I got this stats to work whit: 17, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9
And he will be 5-8 in levels(no one will send a newbie behind the enemies lines alone if he cant take care of him self, so no lowlevel char as in the pc grp).

The char will need to be a "Natures/Wild" person. He will use a lot of time in the wild and, as told, work behind the enemies lines a lot. So hiding skills or other ways to stay out of sight is a Must.
Maybe Diplo/bluff/disguise too but well .. can be difficult to get it all in 1 char.

My own ideas is to make him a Ranger/Dread Commandor or a Ranger/Wild Runner or something like that.
The ranger can make a great Agent as he still got the 6+int mod for skills and full BaB, so he can make a great soldier, but still got the skills to be a good agent/skill monkey. Plus the ranger weapons will give him a way to make surprice attacks for Hit&Run missions etc. Somthing the rogue often will lag in.

An other option was a Druid and maybe a bird/griffon companion.
Would be a great chars for spying from the sky and will always have a way to get out of the way quickly.
But can be a problem that the Druid is mabye a bit TOO neutral .. is sometimes a bit difficult to see the often peacefull druids becoming a spy and agent in an army or in a faction/guild and don't have the right combinations of skills.

Oh, and Ninja isn't available as even a NPC class. We have found it way to overpowered in some of our campaigns before, so we have decided to forbid it as a class in our campaigns .

As for a race the "Whisper Gnome" is just for the right food.
It got +8 for Hide skill, and +4 for move silent .. ;)

I know its maybe a bit much time to use on 1 NPC, but in a lot of the early missions in my scenarios will he be a key person, and I need to make him right to start whit as I hate to chance things later on(maybe a bad thread for a DM but well ..).

Thanks for every reply and commends.

Best Regards,

Ps. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this sort of post. Moderators is, of cause, welcome to move the thread as needed.

I dunno, Ninja aren't very good...

If you're set on Ranger, Ranger/Scout + Swift Hunter would give you Skirmish and Favoured Enemy advancement.

Actually, it sounds like what you want fits Scout to a tee.

Hmn .. scout .. Compl. Adventure ..
Only con I can see is the average BaB ..
But the pro's is great .. bout that it got the 8+Int mod. for skills, but it got a great feat combination too.
Even bonus feats and extra speed.

And great skill combination too.

Any tips about what I can do about a PrC ?
Should I keep the char as a Scout, or maybe go for the Dread Command or an other Prestige Class ?

Thanks for the reply CasualGatherer.

If your not opposed, I find a dip into warlock for at will, 24/7 invisibilty and their Entropic warding which also makes them pretty much untrackable by any mundane means is great for a solo stealther. It nearly guarentees getaways by themselves, let alone when combined on a stealth heavy character to start.

Warlock powers never, EVER run out which is relly nice for a character who spends long periods of time stealthing and away from friendly support.

Make him Fey aligned rather than infernal and you have your 'natural' connection.
