#1 cloer Sep 22, 2009 22:16:14	hi, i need some help on my wizard build, im playng 3.5 forgotten realms, ill be starting at level 1 but the main campaign will be 5th to 15th but idk if it will end at 15th or it will go higer. i got so far focused conjurer 5 (this is set in stone) and i got my feats picked out (i can maybe still free up 1 or 2 to qualify for a prc if its worth it) but after that i dont know what to do either: master speacialist 10/archmage 5 or Divine oracle 10/Paragnostic apostle 5 Divine oracle 10/ fatespinner 4/PA 1 Divine Oracle 10/Loremaster5 the thing is even though the MS build looks tempting it really doesnt give me anything much exept the 10th level ability and CL increase and SkillF:spellcraft for archmage, and 10 levels for just that doesnt seem good. Im taking collegiate wizard feat so the extra spells are overkill, and im not going to do a lot of summoning so minor and mediums school esoterica are practically useless, and the major one seems great untill you realise its only 3 times a day. Also i know i can get into it a level 4 but i need 5 levels of wizard for the spontaneous divination variant. (im piking up versatile spellcaster at lvl 6) So its pretty much MS only help me qualify for archmage and has some RP flavor, DO isnt all that powerfull and i cant get archmage but its "crunchy in the middle" (5th to 15th) where im going to be playing mostly. SO its power early or power later. also any other PrCs you can recommend im going for BC  (incantarix is 4 banned schools so its to much and im saving IotSFV for another build). thx
#2 cloer Sep 26, 2009 14:26:35	anything???   ive decided im going strongheart halfling 2 flaws, martial wizard variant, focused specialist variant, immeadite magic, spontaneus divination variant instead of 5th level feat. conjuror 5/divine oracle 10/MS 1/archmage 4 MS 1 gives me skill focus spellcraft for archmage and its the only reason imtaking it. Feats are: 1)skillfocus k.religion 3)craft wondrous items 6)versatile spellcaster 9 &15) spellfocus conj & trans 12)craft contingency 18)quicken spell flaw)extend spell flaw)sculpt spell race)colegiate wizard   id like to squeeze in cloudy conjuration but no more room, also theres a location in complete scoundrel that gives the skillgocus k. religion feat but idk if im going to be able to get it DC15 check and since i need that feat for the prc im not taking the risk of not getting it.   any comments about my build?????
#3 deoxhydroxinate Sep 26, 2009 17:17:24	What about something with: Conjurer 4 / Master Specialist 1 / Incantatrix 10 / Archmage 3 / XX  +2 ? I'm a little foggy right now due to being sick and many medications, so I may have missed the point entirely,  but what exactly are you trying to achieve with your character?
#4 cloer Sep 26, 2009 17:49:23	thx for your post, i have to take 5 levels of wizard because im taking the 5th level spontaneus divination variant, and im taking versatile spellcaster at level 6 (spontaneus caster exploit FTW). Im going for focused specialist (have to ban 3 schools) so if i take incantrix thats 1 more school i have to ban, im already giving up evocation, necromancy and enchantment so the next one in the chopping block would have to be illusion or abjuration and 4 schools banned is to much. im triying to build a versatile buffer/controler alaa treantmonk style but i dont like the prestige classes he suggests, (dont like mage of the arcane order and i consider the conjuration MS weak if you are not a summoner), so i was trying to find alternatives PrC, i like divine oracle alot but i need the 1st level of MS to get skillfocus spellcraft dor archmage.   hope you get better

Ok, so you're stuck with going 5 conjurer, that's fine.  The main thing is, giving up schools of magic isn't a bad thing. It's not like you can never cast those spells again. There are many simple tricks around that, such as UMD, or I believe the Magic Domain which allows you to use spell completion triggers and items (even of prohibited schools) for a simple feat. The Mage of the Arcane Order is extremely potent due to the spellpool ability which also helps you get around the prohibited schools and allows you to cherry pick spells for each situation. Again with the banning of schools, I'd go with the following: Evocation, Enchantment, Necromancy and if you had to give up a 4th, Illusion.  You have to remember though, you aren't saying goodbye to these schools of magic forever!
