Ive read about it being able to have an extremely high caster level...but everywhere i read nothing is explained. Can someone show me the build AND explain how it works. Thank you.

Ur-priests calculate their caster level on this formula: Ur-Priest level + 1/2 all other levels that progress any sort of spellcasting.

Hence, if you have two full progression casting classes, through something like True Necromancer, or Mystic Theurge, etc, then you add one half of both to your Ur-priest levels. If you progress Ur-priest normally as one half of a dual-prog class, then 1/2 your caster level in the other class still adds to your caster level. You basically end up with: Ur-priest levels, + 1.5 dual progression class levels + 1/2 the arcane side's class levels.

Wizard 5/UP2/whatever X would get you the 2 from ur-priest, 2 from the wizard side, then 1.5 of whatever that X is for your ur-priest caster level. Hence, really super high caster level on the divine side.

Maybe that's clearer than it looks to me right now. Not enough coffee yet.

Let me see if I can explain it more clearly.

The Ur-priest calculates its caster level as levels of ur-priest spellcasting + 1/2 levels of other spellcasting classes. If you enter a prestige class that advances two spellcasting classes, you can advance two classes at once. For instance, taking Wizard 8/Ur-priest 2/True Necromancer 10 means you cast arcane spells as a 16th-level wizard and divine spells as a 10th-level ur-priest.

Your ur-priest caster level with that build is levels in ur-priest (10) plus one-half levels in other classes (16/2 = 8), for a divine caster level of 18. So you cast arcane spells at caster level 16 and divine spells at caster level 18. Doing something like Wizard 3/Cleric 3/True Necromancer 14 would only let you cast both arcane and divine spells with CL 15 each.

Better?

See, that's totally what I meant to say earlier this morning.

The old 3.0 version of True Necromancer let you add your caster levels from different classes together for necromancy spells (or Death spells... or maybe it was Evil and Death... I forget). I had a build that abused this a long freakin' time ago on here, which I found out later wasn't exactly legal (see Kenny! in my sig). He might be talking about that combo.

Ahhh...yes, I think I remember that thread. That might be why he can't find an explanation, if it was a 3.0 build. Then again, there are enough Arcane X/Ur-Priest Y/Dual-Advancement Z builds around that it's possible he was looking for something UP specific and not TN specific.
