(Draconic) Polymorph forms for a Dragonwrought Kobold?

Following on from my earlier Swiftblade thread ... since the party is pretty high powered I've ended up taking the plunge and being a Cheesewrought Loredrake Kobold, and I'm gonna use Draconic Polymorph to keep up as well.

Full sheet is here, but the short version is that I'm a 14 HD Dragonwrought Kobold in search of good Polymorph forms for combat. Fly speeds are irrelevant due to Elemental Body (air), so I'm looking for sheer physical power and natural armour more than anything else, but I want humanoid forms so I can wield my Thunderlance.

I'm no expert on Polymorph, but by my reading it does nothing to override the Alter Self's clause that "The new form must be within one size category of your normal size.", which restricts me to Medium sized creatures, which limits the available options. From leafing through my library what I've got so far is:

Elder Redcap (MM3)
Small Fey
Str 22, Dex 21, Con 22
Speed 30 ft.
+5 natural armour
Powerful build

Zern (MM4)
Medium Monstrous Humanoid
Str 16, Dex 17, Con 18
Speed 30 ft.
+6 natural armour

I'm not sure if I'd get the Adaptive Defences and/or Malleable Form abilities? They're both (Ex), but aren't listed under SQ, so does that by process of elimination mean they are Special Attacks? I suspect not, but you never know with how badly these rules are written. Anyone know?

Rager Varrangoin (Fiend Folio)
Medium Magical Beast
Str 18, Dex 15, Con 14
Speed 20 ft.
+8 natural armour
Rage, Rend, Bite, 2 claws, Tail Sting (Poison)

So, does anyone know of any other good forms that I could use?

Uhmmm... aren't loredrake and the other options in dragons of eberron for true dragons only? I may be wrong but doesn't dragonwrought only make your type dragon?

@ atanatotatos: That debate is old, and we're not bringing it up here. It's RAI v RAW. The op clearly got it okay'd, so let's try helping him

Dave: Alter self gives you the form of a creature of your type within one size category. Polymorph changes you into the form of another living creature. Since the type is the difference, and that was causing the size restriction, I believe polymorph changes that... I could be wrong though. I'd also suggest looking at the mindflayer. You gain the extract ability. That's off the top of my head though.

Edit: I don't know how your DM feels about the FAQ, but here http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/er/20070621a the newest one, page 75 says only alter self has the one size larger/smaller clause

Oh! Sorry 'bout that. Hadn't really noticed

The Rules of the Game column on the WOTC website also supports the any size side of the debate.

Are you using the Rules Compendium Polymorph?

I'm not as keen on it because you basically lose ... everything.

Did it change some more?

I just don't like losing all my class features and stuff.

But Polymorph is based on alter self and that specifically says you keep class features. Any other spells of the polymorph subschool make you lose them. Alter self, polymorph, and shapechange don't. There you go, breath that sigh of relief ;)

Nice to know, cheers. Okay, any good large forms?

Not so much an issue with the DM (he's allowing other people to Polymorph into Planetars for 17th level Cleric casting - frankly a lot of the stuff I'm pulling [i.e. Loredrake] is just in order to keep up).

Are you using the Rules Compendium Polymorph?

God knows. I don't have the book anyway.

Oy, this is why I don't generally bother with Polymorph.

Even if I keep the class features, what about equipment?

I've actually bumped myself up quite a bit via other methods (namely, the Lolth-touched template and Abeil Queen Polymorphing in the morning so as to load up on Druid list hour/level buffs) so my stat block is looking a lot more competitive than it did at first. I think I may just stick with Kobold form for most combats and save the Polymorphing for when the proverbial excrement hits the equally proverbial fan.

Plus there's just something that appeals to me about the tiny Kobold in a party with a Planetar, a War Troll, and some kind of enormous Artificer-based monstrosity :D

top of p 123. existing rules text takes priority. alter self exists and therefore takes priority and it says you keep them class features

As for equipment dave, no spell addresses that, really. But the FAQ does. around page 80 something. I actually read it last night. It says if your new form has the body slot, magic items resize to fit (not armor or weapons though). It's your DM's call, though
