I was thinking to play a kind of wizard able to hit in meelee when the time occurs. In special manner, vs. another wiz. When the match begin, the drow will use celerity, superior if his initiative don't win and run to the opponent with his daggers to blow a lethal, poisonous blow. What kind of poison i have to use ? I was thinking something that damage Int or Car(for sorcerer). Where i can find ? Is this a nice solution? Notice that this build casts wizard 7°lvl spell and assassin 4°lvl spell. For the assassin i obviously think about wraith strike and similiar. ( nice to have every hit like a sneak attack (poor in my case, with only a 3d6)). I was thinking about those feats suggested in another thread. | #3arcangelgabrielApr 09, 2010 11:55:18 | So, you're a Drow? If so, why? Are you a lesser variant or a full Drow? What's your first language? ehm... -.- what kind of answer is this ? BTW, do you know where i can find the post about spells without a cap lvl ? i mean those spells that are powerful with a caster with a truly high CL. |
| #4NiteCyperApr 09, 2010 16:42:06 | So, you're a Drow? If so, why? Are you a lesser variant or a full Drow? What's your first language? 1. "ehm... -.- what kind of answer is this ?" 2. You imply you're a Drow. Write-ups of builds are traditionally explicit in their statistical display. 3. Why are you a Drow? LA is unoptimal. 4. Are you a lesser variant or a full Drow? 5. What's your first language? Perhaps we have users proficient in the same tongue that may be able to bridge translation-gaps. 6. re: uncapped CL-scaling spells: I don't know of "the" post. I know two or three such spells are "Wings of Flurry", "Maw of Chaos", and "Alter Self". |
| #5Maat_MonsApr 09, 2010 17:31:51 | You can play an arcane caster with good attack bonus and hit points. You can play an arcane caster with good sneak attack and skills. You can play an arcane caster with near full prepared casting and some spontaneous casting on the side. Any of those would be good. I think you are spreading yourself too thin. If I understand correctly, this is an 18th level character intended to be able to fight other wizards. I think you should aim for 9th level spells and maybe something else on the side. |

Just a quick note that you cannot cast celerity while flatfooted (no immediate actions while flatfooted) so if you lose intiative.... |
| #7lormadorApr 10, 2010 8:31:20 | From the title of the thread it sounds like he's going for an arcane sneak attacking dude. In which case the stock answer is: Spellthief, Wizard, Unseen Seer and since he mentioned daggers, I'd like to put in a word favoring Daggerspell Mage. Forgive me if I've messed up the stock answer, but it's been awhile. The best "race" (as he's already chosen Drow) is the Lesser Drow variant, mentioned for the 124543th time, from Player's Guide to Faerun, way in the back. It gives +0 LA Drow. Honorable Mention: the Drow Paragon class from UA. |

| #9lormadorApr 12, 2010 10:42:43 | Normally it's better to keep caster levels at a maximum, even if you have to purchase CC skills here and there. Unseen Seer will help qualify for Daggerspell Mage. Have you considered becoming undead? (Necropolitan from Libris Mortis.) |

Thanks a lot for your answers. They catched nearly all my points. But, i 've to say, this drow will be a NPC for a 1vs1 DUEL against one of my players. Yes, i'm a DM. So, brutally saying, the drow wont' be something with a lot of skills or the features of a PC. I will use it one or two times only in a match, probabily semi-arcane duel. It will end fast :D i can assure. Spell storing is a great advice, cheers! But i don't believe i would take another build, neither for darkstalker feat :P some nice spells for 1vs1 duel with this NPC ? |
| #11lormadorApr 12, 2010 20:48:55 | While I don't condone min-maxing NPCs to this extent, because it will probably result in the death of a party member... Shivering Touch is the cheesiest spell you could use, from Frostburn. I believe it does DEX damage, so, one stored in each dagger, and another cast through the Daggerspell Mage's class ability. So, keep Haste up, and in round 1 use Wraithstrike, Arcane Strike for the maximum, and full attack, releasing the three Shivering Touches. 9d6 DEX damage (if I correctly remember Shivering Touch) should be enough to paralyze almost anything- certainly enough to paralyze a typical wizard PC. |

There's another way ? |
| #13lormadorApr 13, 2010 7:13:00 | The normal way, which maybe won't kill the player immediately, is to use Vampiric Touch. If you Empower it, still you can place it inside the Spell Storing weapon. That'll give, for damage, 1. All iterative attacks, touch attacks because of Wraithstrike and one extra from Haste. 2. Sneak attack damage from the above. 3. Arcane Strike from a sacrificed spell slot- even if you don't use the highest level, it'll add up. 4. Two Empowered Vampiric Touch spells from Spell Storing weapons. 5. Another touch spell (could be Vampiric Touch again) cast with Daggerspell Mage class feature. Fleshgrinding (or Organgrinding, I forget the correct name) will add +1d6 to your SA. Poisoning the weapons won't make much difference, but you could always Minor Creation up some Black Lotus before the battle. Apply it with a Mage Hand to your weapons. I feel bad about helping you do this to a player. I'd despise my DM if he pulled this on me. Then again I'd never sign up for a duel against a drow wizard! |
| #14dark86Apr 13, 2010 13:54:59 | From the master spellthief thread: Rogue 1/Bloodline 3/Spellthief 1/Sorcerer 1/Mindbender 1/Unseen Seer 2/Spellwarp Sniper 1/Arcane Trickster 2/Unseen Seer 2( for a total of 4)/Spellwarp Sniper 1 Feats Master Spellthief Sanctum Spell (for early entry) Caster Level is X at lvl 15. 1(Sorcerer 1)+3=4 1(Spellthief 1)+3=4 1(Mindbender 1)+3=4 4(Unseen Seer 4)+3=7 1(Spellwarp Sniper 2)+3=4 2(Arcane Trickster)+3=5 28 at lvl 15, 26 for non divination spells, 30 for divination spells. Sneak Attack+Sudden Strike: 2d6 (Rogue 1+3 bloodline) 1d6 (Spellthief 1+3 bloodline) 3d6 (Unseen Seer 4+3 bloodline) 2d6 (Spellwarp Sniper 2+3 bloodline) 2d6 (Arcane Trickster 2+3 bloodline) Total is 10d6 and can add another 10d6 through hunter's eye. Has 9 levels of casting, and thus can do wings of flurry, which is an instantly stun lock due to spellwarping. *C.Adv pg 8 states that Sudden Strike and Sneak Attack are the same thing for the purposes of qualifying for PrCs |
