| #1jonathan915Sep 04, 2009 14:36:45 | So, I'm joining a campaign, and we're starting at lvl 15. No limits on books or anything, just has to pass DM inspection prior to starting. The rest of the party is a sorcerer and 3 fighters. I don't know if there's any PrC's or what in there, but I'm more than a little worried about our parties survivability. I decided to make a druid, and my goal is to make a character that can more than take care of himself, and maybe the party too. I want to be as strong as possible, but I'm not going to do anything rediculous. Our DM is likely to say something akin to "a black hole opens up next to you" if, for example, I try to abuse shapeshift to get a wish every turn. So bear in mind that even if there are over powered things in here, I have no intention of trying to break the campaign. Also, if I want a rules variation on something I can probably convince her to give it to me. After a lot of online looking, my current build is: Druid 15 Race: Anthropomorphic Bat (-4 str, -2 cha, +6!!! wis) HP: 112 AC: 26 (+2 Dragoncraft Full Plate (red) (10 ac), +1 Dragoncraft Large Shield (red) (3 ac), ring of protection +2 (2 ac), +1 for being small) Age: venerable for the +3 to mentle stats. no penalties since I'm a lvl 15 druid. Technically that means I needed to age AFTER hitting lvl 15, but I can think of some story for that if I must. Stats: str 8 dex 10 con 15 int 16 (+3 from age) wis 41 (started at 18, +6 for race, +3 for age, +3 from lvling, +5 tome, +6 ammy) cha 13 (+3 for age) Feats: Spell Focus (Conjuration) (flaw) Greenbound Summoning (flaw) Augment Summoning (1) Gatekeeper initiate (3) Natural spell (6) Rashemi Elemental Summoning (9) Dragon Wild Shape (12) Assume Supernatural Ability (15)
I had essentailly no cash for weapons, so I just have a quarterstaff for spellstaff. I haven't fleshed out my spell list or animal companion yet. I'm sure my spells are going to be a huge part of this build given my insane wis score, and obviously I took a fair bit to buff my summons. I'm looking for advice on any parts of my character, particularly if my stats and feats are ok, and thoughts on important spells, wild shapes, and my animal companion for high lvls. Thanks in advance. ps. I trust my party about as far as I could throw them. There will probably be evil party members, and backstabbing. I'm neutral, and it would be ideal if I could utterly crush anyone who thinks to oppose me ;) Also, everything I have here has passed inspection so far. |

That and wild shape should keep you alive. Given that you want to be a caster, select some mobile dragon form (see here: community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...). Feats: Your feats come from various settings but that probably does not bother you. Anyway, greenbound summoning sort of loses its oomph at higher levels; considering that your animal buffs don't affect plants (such as Animal Growth from PHB). So I would drop that. Also, a caster might want to have some metamagic spells, such as Extend Spell or Quicken Spell. Or you can buy some metamagic rods. Extend, Quicken, and Sculpt are all great options for a caster druid. You don't need any weapon, you have wild shape. If you need some reliable ranged damage, consider a damage dealing reserve feat. Considering the amount of cheese already present in this character, Fleshraker Dinosaur (MM3) animal companion is fitting. Especially if combined with venomfire spell (SK), |

If you went with the Monk's Belt (as Cru Suggested) and Bracers of Armor +3, which should be less than the Dragoncraft Armor/Shield, you'd have +18 AC vs the +13 you have now, and 15 of it would count toward touch ac (as opposed to 0). I'd also buy the Dusty Rose Ioun Stone before buying the 2nd + on the Ring of Protection as it's 1,000gp less and has the same total modifier. With Monk's Belt and the Bracers and Ioun Stone, your AC would be... 31 (10 Base + 15 Wis + 3 Armor +1 Size +1 Deflection +1 Insight) Touch 28, Flat-Footed 31 And it looks to me like you'd save about 7kgp.
I hate this new board, by the way. I had other suggestions, but now I don't remember them. They probably involved bying Extend Rods, to use spells to enhance your abilities, though. Lesser Extends are only 3kgp, and there are several spells with hr/lvl durations below 4th that'd all last all day at your current level, and are well worth it. |

I'm putting the finishing touches on my char this week (stupid college getting in the way of my fun) and then I'll post my final results here. There could probably still be more tweaking at that point, but I'm not really worried about it, I think I'll be quite happy with the results after this. Once again, many thanks :D |
