Druid and Attacks

I have seen this argument on other boards and a response from one of the ruler makers lead to lots of arguments.

Anyways, does a Druid who transforms into a bear at level five still get two claws and a bite attack, even though he only gets 1 attack base?

On the same note, does a wizard who uses polymorph to turn into a hydra get an attack with every head that the hydra has

the reason that this arises is because the spell says extra limbs do not allow you to make extra attacks...

However, an animal does not increase its number of attacks when its base attack bonus goes up, so it seems like they would get all 3 attacks, or any other number of attacks that they get.

Also, would a druid who changes into an octupus get 8 attacks a round as a full attack action.

Thanks to everyone who can help answer this, and sorry for it being another polymorph questiono

that attacks are natural attacks, there have nothing to do with BAB, except the bonus to hit. So, yes, that druid will get them all.

Yes, but does that mean that a wizard using polymorph to turn into a hydra gets one attack per head, since they are in fact natural attacks?

Yes, it also means that half of this board bans polymorph-line spells in their games, or get them baned ;)

It IS broken

that seems to be the case..

guess its a good thing they're going away in 4e

However since you don't get a lot of the abilities of the new form pretty much all polymorph does is make you into a better fighter....

I don't want to start a flame thread all over again :P but shape changing is one of the stuff that makes wizards better than most classes. I mean, at level 7 you outdamage fighters or rogues or (or at least deal the same amount of damage) with just one spell, when other classes need to invest ability points and feats to do that.

Well, that's a common belief, but a field experience showed me that when my wizard gish went melee with his glaive and a wartroll shape, he did a bit less than the archer and the warshaper druid in the group, not to mention the daring outlaw.

It made me a melee menace, but less than the guys who poured everything in it.

Oh of course, but you have to take that into perspective..

take a class that is not built around melee at all, give them one spell and they are compariable to classes who base their entire lives on it....

Now, you take the druid along with natural spell and boom, you got a class that is better in combat than almost all other classes, and can still cast save or die, and buffing spells

I know, it's stupidly broken, but it doesn't make you better it makes you slightly less than on-par in a melee related way, if you put most of your ressources into spellcasting rather than melee battle.

Still stupidly good.

Lol, not better, but slightly less than on-par..

Im going to use that if it's okay with you whenever someone complains about the druid

Go ahead, I edited to show the real intent, as in: A full fledged melee warrior is still better AT MELEE than a wizard casting polymorph or a non melee focused druid. Just not by that much, and the other guys can cast spells that will shatter the world.

ok, a wizard casting polymorph into a 7head hydra at 7th level does 7d10 + 28 damage with a +7 attack bonus. That's an average of 60+ damage with a standard action. A melee character needs at least 3+ feats (power attack and multipliers) to do that.

How about Druid with 11-headed cryohydra wil... I mean, Frozen wild shape then? Use Enhance wild shape for additional laughs.

Mind you, that 7d10 and stuff is assuming you hit all the time... but still. It's rather borked.

You'd also have a LOT of problems doing any kind of damage with your bites to ..... say..... a fiendish colossal centipede.

Cause, you know, it has DR 10/magic.

Against a critter with an AC of 8 and no DR.

I won't say it's not broken, but you still have to pay a minimum effort to get results, even out of polymorph.

It is very hard for a melee character to do that much damage without criticalness and such unless it is build around solely doing damage...

Now, I agree that a melee character will do more than a polymorph ed caster, but the fighter is using everything they know and everything they've ever been taught to be able to do what a caster can do with simply one spell....

Which is also the reason that DR on PCs is slightly better than people on this board generally believe, and the reason why Pounce is just ok on PCs. In practice, that is.
