| #1manwithdogJul 11, 2010 7:12:20 | I've been making a druid for an upcoming game where i get the pleasure of playing a level 8 Druid and am currently looking at the bit and bobs surrounding Feats, Skills, Animal Companions and such. I was hoping if i post what i was sat at currently if anyone could give me pointers or any tips on where i have maybe gone wrong? It is my first Druid but i hope i dont sound too inexperienced with what i have so far: Human - Druid - Level 8. I have decent stats - Main stats are 19 Wis, 16 Con, 15 Dex. I have decided i would like (still awaiting DM decision) a WarBeast Magebred Tiger (if not allowed, it will merely be a WarBeast Tiger) I am going to max out skills such as Concentration, Knowledge: Nature and keep high things as Spellcraft? Spot and Handle Animal. Feats i am kinda stuck on though: I looked at Companion Spellbond which seems a pretty strong choice, Natural Spell for level 6 and then i pretty much am left wondering - maybe this? Maybe that? I thought about Multi Attack for one. As for wildshape i was considering another tiger or a Polar Bear if i am able to do that now. And spells, well... I dont evn know where to star here - i will have a list of them with me i think. Hope someone can help and sorry for the lengthy style of my post :-) (if i have missed anything out, i will answer on request) |

Just reading through it as i go - looks like most of what i have come up with have come as a result of reading the Druid Handbook so i am guessing overall - not a terrible choice with what i have done so far? |

| #5manwithdogJul 11, 2010 13:19:54 | I am in v3.5 but am allowed to use the Warbeast template in the back of MM2 (or is it MM3) Fleshraker is not allowed and according to all sources, the Magebred Tiger is arguably better. But i am allowed a tiger, possibly allowed the Magebred, but definitely not allowed the Fleshraker |
| #6urpriestJul 11, 2010 15:21:55 | I am in v3.5 but am allowed to use the Warbeast template in the back of MM2 (or is it MM3) Would a WarBeast end up being accessible at the same level as a non-WarBeast, or is there an adjustment? If so, what is it, and is it from a source or ad-hoc? |
| #7manwithdogJul 11, 2010 16:08:10 | War Beast is a template that ca be applied to any animal i believe. I dont have access to the books at this moment so i cant check am afraid. It is at the back of MM2 or MM3, cant recall which but if you have those books, its in the back of one of those |

| #9urpriestJul 11, 2010 16:15:31 | War Beast is a template that ca be applied to any animal i believe. I know it can be applied to any animal. So can Paragon. However, unless I'm mistaken you can't turn your non-WarBeast animal companion into a WarBeast, it has to be born that way. Same with Magebred. Magebred, IIRC, has rules for making it an animal companion. WarBeast, again IIRC, does not. You can't just have any animal as an animal companion, it has to be on an animal companion list. So where are you finding rules for making a WarBeast an animal companion? The template is in MM2, and as such is 3.0, so it doesn't have those rules. Are they in the update pdf, or are you getting them from somewhere else? |
| #10manwithdogJul 11, 2010 16:31:57 | The first post says i am making a Druid and also says it is my first Druid and am looking for pointers and tips. The WarBeast template was offered to me by the DM as a trade off for what the rest of the party got from earlier in the campaign. I know Magebred is an animal born or raised that way and i wouldnt just be turning a creature into a Warbeast, i am hoping i can get the animal as a warbeast when i get my animal companion. So if i have done something wrong, or you see clear errors with what i am trying to do, please just tell me or give me pointers and advice if you can |
| #11urpriestJul 11, 2010 16:46:54 | The first post says i am making a Druid and also says it is my first Druid and am looking for pointers and tips. The WarBeast template was offered to me by the DM as a trade off for what the rest of the party got from earlier in the campaign. Ah, this was all I was asking about. The DM's giving the template to your animal companion for free then. Alright, cool. I also can't find any rules for Magebred animal companions, so may I assume your DM would be giving that for free as well? A Tiger is an excellent companion for your level if you're denied the Fleshraker, and of course would be supported by any templates you can get houseruled onto it. |
| #12manwithdogJul 11, 2010 17:21:19 | There is a fair bit of give and take here as the party on the whle are pretty hardcore now, but they have worked really hard to get what they were given. And as the story arc goes they were all given an item and an ability by their collective God - my character does not so i get a DM gift - my (hopefully) uber Tiger companion. Are there any feats that are good for Animal Companions that you know of? I mean i know of Companion Spellbond, Multi Attack sounds possible. That kind of thing? |
| #13urpriestJul 12, 2010 0:00:54 | There is a fair bit of give and take here as the party on the whle are pretty hardcore now, but they have worked really hard to get what they were given. Since it has Pounce, it would make a pretty uber charger...give it Shock Trooper, Leap Attack, and their prereqs if you want to go that route. |
| #14manwithdogJul 12, 2010 8:48:56 | Is it one feat on creation, and one every 3HD thereafter for an animal? |
| #15urpriestJul 12, 2010 12:00:07 | Is it one feat on creation, and one every 3HD thereafter for an animal? Yup, animals get feats at the same rate as people, including from the bonus HD they get from being your animal companion. They also get any racial bonus feats that their type of animal gets, though I don't think there are any for tigers. |
| #16manwithdogJul 13, 2010 19:07:14 | Awesome - gonna have a good look what i can get him as i want him to be a focus of my build and hopefully i will be there to help in the really OH CRAP moments. With this DM, there will be plenty i am sure |
