Currently looking at a dungeon magazine barbarian variant of some sort. I have no idea what to play. My first idea was Cloistered Cleric, knowledge devotion, maybe kobold domain for trapfinding, and related skills. Cleric of some type seems to offer the most options to our wee duo. Anyone else played in a small game like this? How has it worked out overall? |

It was very interesting, and we were effective enough in combat (flanking + invisibility). We definitely didn't dungeon crawl, so I can't help you there. If you are running dungeon crawls, you may want to ask your DM to run 2 characters each or gestalt characters. Since it's just the two of you, you will want to be beefy. If that isn't an option, I think a wizard could work out well, perhaps a necromancer. Summon creatures to set off traps, knock to open doors, dispel magic/detect magic to deal with magical traps. Geometer could be a good PrC for dealing with these types of things. Of course, you'll be VERY squishy. A necro variant in the Unearthed Arcana would give you a skeletal cohort. You could even have quite a few undead friends running with you. Use the necro variant that gives your critters +4 str/dex and the feats from Libris Mortis/Heroes of Horror/Complete Arcane that boost your undead with str/dex and natural armor. If you are a gestalt character, a wizard/warlock would be pretty effective. Wizard utilities as above + warlocky blastiness and usefulness (24 darkness + devil's sight means you are difficult to hit) make a great combo. Search out Treantmonk's guides to wizards to see which spells are good and why (there are threads for each specialty floating on the CharOp boards). Have fun! Swany EDIT: You may want to consider have 1 level of Dread Necromancer and BOTH OF YOU taking the Tomb Tainted Soul feat from (can't remember) Libris Mortis or Heroes of Horror. That will cover your healing after EVERY COMBAT. Full hps all the time between fights is HUGE. Also consider being a Necropolitan (no LA but you lose 1 level). That is from Libris Mortis as well. |

You might consider playing a crusader. They can hit very hard, take a good deal of punishment, and they have some healing abilities in combination with their strikes. If you take a level of cleric, you can then go for Ruby Knight Vindicator, advancing both your divine spellcasting (8/10 as I recall) and your martial abilities. |
