| #1ObsidianConspiracyDec 24, 2010 20:37:58 | This is something I have been working on, I've been trying to make the Spellcarved Soldier worthwhile. Now it feels to me I only want Runes 3 & 4 always active (Realistically there is no limit so I can have them active permanently theoretically) Now my major issue is I'm struggling to finish this build off, feat wise, I would rather not use shock trooper and it's ilk, but would like something strong, but creative. Also, a class to fill the last two levels would be useful as well. If anyone has any ideas... I considered Warforged Juggernaut... but it doesn't synergize with the Abrubt Jaunt, which, I am very happy to keep using as it seems like a good way to get into combat and get away without burning a spell. Name: Duskforge Race: Warforged Class: Duskblade 6/Spellcarved Soldier 4/ Duskblade 7/ Abrupt Jaunt Wizard 1/ X 2 Str: 20 Dex: 13 Con: 22 Int: 16 Wis: 13 Cha: 12 (Note: Rolled fairly well + level up boosts +2 STR, +2 CON, +1 DEX) Feats: Flaw 1: Adamantine Body Flaw 2: Power Attack Level 1: Versatile Spellcaster Duskblade 2: Combat Casting Level 3: Knowledge Devotion Level 6: Battle Caster Level 9: Level 12: Level 15: Practiced Spellcaster (For Vampiric Touch) Level 18: Class Features: Arcane Attunement Armoured mage (Medium + Heavy Shield) (Heavy Armour due to feat) Combat Casting Arcane Channeling (Full attack) Quick Cast 2/day Spell power +3 Spellcarved Runes Rune of Extension Rune of Resistance Rune of Fortification Rune of the Archmage Basically from here I'm stuck... would it be worth taking reserve feats, what... I'm taking two flaws because the guys I play with would allow two flaws... but aside frmo this, i am really really struggling to finish this build without it becoming a rehash of everything I've already used/seen. So... ideas anyone? I did consider Vow of Poverty, taking a spear as my simple weapon... or going with unarmed combat, using Improved and Superior unarmed combined with Hammer Fist |
| #2ObsidianConspiracyDec 25, 2010 17:36:16 | No ideas? maybe a prestige class that'll let me max out my caster level, while keeping BAB high? Or dropping the spellcasting and gaining some warblade levels? |
| #3waazraathDec 27, 2010 3:53:00 | At what level will you start playing? And will you take the levels in the order that you mentioned them? If so, abrubt jaunt wizard at level 17 isn't worth it anymore, I think... you'll be fighting collosal and gargantuan creatures, a 10 feet teleport isn't going to get you safely in and out of combat by then. Also, the loss of a spellcasting level is quite high a price for that. As for the spellcarved soldier: don't want to discourage you, especially since you want to make it worthwhile, but is it? Fortification is nice, but you can get that as warforged anyway. And the rune of the archemage... well, +4 to casterlevel and one (or 2, not sure about the robes) item slots.... if you compare that with what you get from 4 levels of duskblade, it's not as good. If you go that route anyway, one feat should be spent on silver tracery as a prereq. VoP I would advice against, since it doesn't really work with the extra item slots, and because the duskblade spellist misses the utility to compennsate for not having items (stuff like fly). |
| #4ObsidianConspiracyDec 27, 2010 8:04:43 | Well even though Spellcarved Soldier is an underpowered class I would quite like to use it to the point wear I can say it's a major part of the build. I was thinking of taking Jaunt level 2 when I went over it. And as for not being worth it, our DM throws a lot of NPC's at us rather than creatures. I completely missed Silver Tracery being a prereq for the class. The other thin was I couldn't find anything worth taking that's progress my duskblade casting whilst retaining the full BAB, so I decided instead to use free teleportation stuff. Unless you've any classes to suggest? If I was using VoP I'd only go to spellcarved soldier 3. But more importantly I would say the extra use from a ring and the robes (Which DM has allowed it, saying the adamantine body is a warforged trait and not just an armour slot piece) So being able to use three rings, and robes, and have an increased caster level (Which I missed when I read it first), I feel is quite worthwhile, which removes my need for practiced spellcaster as well. I just need to find a way to go with the last three elvels, and feats. I could get three more levels of duskblade, but I'd rather go into somethign else. Level 18 game by the way, planescape, we're going to be hitting at least 20 |
| #5waazraathDec 27, 2010 8:26:48 | Mhhh.... if you have 3 levels left, you might consider 3 levels of incantatrix and some metamagic feats, and free metamagic you partymember spells. It will hurt your BaB though, and is a bit cheesy. Other option: go for abjurant champion, though there aren't that many spells on the duskblade list that specificly benefit from it (there are ways to get more though). Simply 2 more levels duskblade would give another quick cast. Did you check out this one btw? Ow, and thinking about increasing the number of spells known: maybe sandshaper from sandstorm, or the bloodline feats from dragon compendium. So far some random thoughts ![]() |
| #6ObsidianConspiracyDec 27, 2010 12:25:07 | If I used Incantatrix again I think the DM will have an apoplexy. See I did consider a few ways to get some spells added, but other than the bloodline feats I was really stuck... also, being warforged means my DM won't let me qualify for the bloodline feats. It's a pain, cos they can be refluffed as 'Built by' feats lol |
| #7waazraathDec 27, 2010 15:26:50 | And the sandshaper option? 1 level gives you over 30 extra spells known, including some summons, save or dies, battlefield controll, dispell magic, etc. Complete divine has a feat with which you can cast spells from 1 domain each once/day. |
| #8ObsidianConspiracyDec 27, 2010 15:50:05 | Sand shaper seems interesting, though the touchstone feat will never get me anything. And I'll only ever have 4th level spells. Arcane Disciple? I'd need to re-hash my stats a little however, needing 1 more point of wisdom to get the 4th level out of it... maybe reducing con And what Domains for decent touch spells? |
| #9waazraathDec 27, 2010 18:12:27 | Mhhh, I don't know if I'd go for the domain with touch spells... you already have a very decent selection of touch spells from duskblade... if you spend a feat on arcane disciple, I'd check for one with spells that have utility and are really nice to have, and something different from what's already on your list, like travel. Pestilence, slime and scalykind domains gives poison though, that's a decent enough touch spell. |
| #10ObsidianConspiracyDec 27, 2010 18:42:31 | Yeah Travel is quite nice. You can take arcane disciple more than once... however, is there, possibly another way of gaining poison as a spell? Maybe through fiend blooded? Though being warforged I can't take fiend blooded by my DM's rules... darn... Need a way to get expanded spellbook |
| #11waazraathDec 28, 2010 3:50:56 | 2 levels of wyrm wizard will give you acces to any spell, but at the cost of a level casting, a liberal interpretation of extra spell might work (CAr), besides that, I'm a bit out of ideas. Gl in any case! |
| #12ObsidianConspiracyDec 28, 2010 11:11:20 | See why I got stuck lol. Wyrm Wizard looks like an idea... using Arcane preparation and... what metamagic? Also, currently the build is now looking thus: So Arcane preparation at 15 to get the ability to access Wyrm Wizard. At 12, thinking Maximise... but then, there may be better ones i don't know about. As for build I'm thinking if I use wyrm wizard get it to level 2 at level 17... then take spellcarved soldier 4 at 18th Feats: Flaw 1: Adamantine Body Flaw 2: Power Attack Level 1: Versatile Spellcaster Duskblade 2: Combat Casting Level 3: Battle Caster Level 6: Silver Tracing Level 9: Knowledge Devotion Level 12: Level 15: Level 18: |
