| #1zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 15:58:33 | I found a race called the Dvanti in the Dragon Compendium. They are people entirely made up of twins that share the same soul (for those of you don't know). For those of you that do know I was wondering what would they be good for? Not really looking for most optimized I just want a start so I could give it my own little twists and such. |
| #2phaedrusxyApr 14, 2010 16:12:19 | There are several good things you can do with them. They make great Dragonfire Adepts, as they can both breathe at the same time. Turning one into a Fiend of Possession and having it power up the other one's gear also works pretty well, especially if the non-possessing one can share half his damage with the possessing one somehow. I forget if they can each have different classes and what not, though. But basically anything that can benefit from their double actions is the way to go. Actions are the most valuable "commodity" in the game. |
| #3zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 16:33:46 | they cannot have 2 classes. they get the same number of actions that a normal character gets but split between them. any choice one makes the other makes in class choices. Favored class bard. and some teamwork benifits. |
| #4elthenarApr 14, 2010 17:48:25 | They'd make pretty good Swift Hunters too. Given the low HP total of each twin you are going to want to keep them out of the thick of the melee. |
| #5zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 17:49:58 | swift hunters? Also I just figured out that you can cast spells if one of the twins turn into a creature with the shapechanger druid and the other casting spells. |
| #6elthenarApr 14, 2010 17:57:37 | Swift hunters are multiclassed Ranger/scouts based around the swift hunter feat. They are damn good archers. community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758... |
| #7zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 17:59:45 | cool but why would they be any better than any other race that took it? |
| #8elthenarApr 14, 2010 18:01:22 | Because they can both move and shoot. They may not be able to both cast spells at the same time, but they can both shoot bows at the same time. |
| #9zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 18:03:35 | they cannot move at the same time. one gets to move the other does not unless they take a double move. |
| #10elthenarApr 14, 2010 18:05:44 | Incorrect. A dvanti moves and acts separatly except for the exceptions listed. The only exceptions listed are for spellcasting. |
| #11zylo_drizztApr 14, 2010 18:12:48 | oh I misread. ok so do they share starting gold? Do they share a BAB and if so does that mean that they only get maximum # of attacks or does that mean they get double? |
| #12chilastraApr 15, 2010 22:48:45 | Dvati, for all intents and purposes, are a single creature/being. They just have two separate bodies. So they should be played as any normal character would be, including starting gold, saves, BAB, etc. With the exception of having their base HP divided in half (+con mod to each individual twin). This means, they only get a single standard action per round like any other normal character, so they dont each get their own set of melee attacks per round, they share the same number of melee attacks per round. They cannot cast two spells at the same time either. There are ways around that drawback however such as schism. And plenty of trickery possible with say, the fiend of possession prc.IMO: Dvati really shine as psionic characters though. Anything that grants you multiple actions per round is great for a dvati. Psions (or variants of)are one of the greatest for such things. |
| #13zylo_drizztApr 15, 2010 23:10:43 | I just read it agian and no they don't share actions except for casting spells. so yes ethenar is right. |
| #14voodoocrySep 09, 2010 5:53:09 | This may seem stupid, but I don't understand how these suggestions for a Dvati becoming a Fiend of Possession is possible. How does one become an outsider with the evil subtype? Faustian pact, becoming a devil? I'm not deeply intuned to all the rules, but just on the requirements of FoP I don't know how a prime material race can become one. Please enlighten me ![]() |
| #15zylo_drizztSep 09, 2010 13:32:31 | all you have to do is be evil and get the outsider subtype, there is a ritual in savage spieces that acomplishes this. |
| #16phaedrusxySep 09, 2010 13:58:29 |
Actually they need to be an Outsider with the Evil subtype. There is no such thing as an outsider subtype. It is a bit trickier than you might think, but possible. I think the Savage Species ritual(s?) (and use of the Wish spell) can do it for sure, though. |
| #17KavannahSep 12, 2010 21:46:20 | I always liked the idea of playing a dvati rogue, and using the twin bodies to set up lots of flanking opportunities and optimizing sneak attack accordingly. |
| #18malkavonSep 19, 2010 19:45:04 | Dvati rogues can be very nasty (especially when optimized), flanking with each other and doling out large amounts of damage (or Charisma damage, a dvati "rogue" can conceivably drop 100+ points of Charisma damage in a single round, given the proper setup). As has been mentioned, dvati swift hunters can work quite well. A very interesting build would be a dvati binder. With two sets of actions, you could more advantageously employ your vestige abilities at higher levels. At the low levels, you run out of stuff to use your actions on, but once you get 3-4 vestiges, you should be able to pump out 2 effects per round pretty consistently. A straight Dvati bard running Dragonfire Inspiration and built for inspire courage optimization would be pretty solid as well. One twin activates IC, while the other pops DFI, and then they go to town together full-attacking/flanking. Perhaps go archery and rain death on your opponents (this works best with Leadership and a horde of mook archers, all of them boosted by your massive IC/DFI. We're talking ~+13 attack and +13d6+13 damage per shot). |
| #19neilthrunOct 15, 2010 8:30:05 | Anyone want to think about what happens with a dvati who gains a breath weapon? The rules look unclear to me. |
| #20zylo_drizztOct 15, 2010 12:45:33 | woah you just "blew" me away, lol, puns, the lowest form of comedy. though to the question: I think it would be the same as a multi headed critter |
