| #1khorusFeb 25, 2009 8:53:21 | Hello, About to start the worlds largest dungeon (played it b4 never got past lvl 9 cuz we keep losing people) All books are open, dragon mags are iffy. I got permission to play Dvati (Dragon Compendium) I either A want to play druid 4/wiz 3 Arcane heirphorant X Or Cleric 3 / wiz 3 Mystic Theurge (and crafting alot/constructs) Taking Item Familiar The cleric and wizard sounds more fun to me but Iunno never played a druid. Basically I need to be as self sufficient as possible and want to take advantage of having 2 chars. Dvati take seperate actions from each other but both must be free when they cast a spell or it fails. I'm open to all and any class suggestions. |
| #2khorusFeb 25, 2009 12:39:17 | I say a bad word lol, No replies? lol I searched dvati and I saw they were scarce on here. |
| #3phaedrusxyFeb 25, 2009 12:49:10 | Be patient. Not everyone who posts on here lives in the same time zone, you know? I don't know enough about the race to offer you specific suggestions, but I will say that duel casters blow chunks for the most part. Anima mages would be one of the few exceptions, because you can get in with just one level of binder with Improved Binding, and the benefits are awesome. |
| #4keyes2k4Feb 25, 2009 12:51:46 | Well first off, we need to know a little about your campaign. What Level are you starting at? Does Dvati have an LA? What is the prime reason/staple reason you are playing Dvati (I honestly have no idea what their racial traits are, but if they have 2 heads or something, it would be nice to know) Is the campaign going all the way to 20? What gold/magic items are you starting with? What feats did you have planned (this means alot)? Last, what are your goals with your character, such as I want to be a good melee or a good arcanist or blaster? Everyone tries to be self sufficient. |
| #5emansdrawkcabFeb 25, 2009 12:54:21 | Also, if I remember correctly the way Dvati work make them really unsuitable casters, as they must both concentrate on the spell being cast, thus halving their amount of actions. They make great Intelligence based melee combatants, thanks to the Faerie Mysteries Initiate feat. Throw in a little Swashbuckler 3, maybe some rogue levels, a some Rogue levels, and a dash of ToB, and voila. |
| #6khorusFeb 25, 2009 12:56:11 | not being Impatiant, Just I made an observation. Ty for the reply thoughYou Think I'd be better off with Pure cleric? I just recently started playing casters (cleric) and I liked it and wanted more, Just trying to find something different. I was thinking the mixed caster with buffs constructs and another able body that acts on my turn + buffs = Amazing The race is 2 hands 2 legs Dark Vision (I think going from memory) 2 bodies 1 soul. Mind affecting spells hit both of them, bad status affect aren't shared. They have actions like 2 seperate chars except that they share hit dice (so if I rolled a d10 and got 10 both get 5hp) If they cast a spell both chars must concentrate and perform no other actions or the spell fails. They can communicate telepathically with each other at unlimited range. That is the gist of it.OH and med no stat adjusts +1 la I was planning to do item / golem construction, so 1/improve intiative 3/craft wonderous 6/item familiar 9/craft magic arms and armor 12/ craft construct or something along those lines Campaign is Worlds' largest dungeon (holy prison to hold bad things Lots of undead plus evil stuff.) there is a demon that when it wakes up everything takes -4 lvls Possible Quick/ Divine Metamagic Quicken so casting is swift action for the deadly duo. Starting lvl 1-5 some where in there probably doing 5 cuz a couple of people want + la chars. I would like to be Mashing heads, Either thru a crafted minion or My Brother. Other option for me was anthromorphic toad to help stats. |
| #7khorusFeb 25, 2009 13:05:38 | Sorry thought I needed to add this also, Worlds largest dungeon is a NONE Stop crawl, no shops but good item drops, if your LG your gravy, any other Alignment means DON"T TOUCH ANYTHING. 99% of the stuff does perm stat reductions if your CN or Lower lol. There is a ton of places to forge items or seemed like it last time we played. Mostly it is FIGHT Rest Trap goodies Rest repeat. I played a Barb with pounce and destroyed most stuff in it. Lol one fight was a lvl 7 wererat sorcerer vs 5 lvl 3 people. I grappled him and we shared silver daggers to kill him. |
| #8phaedrusxyFeb 25, 2009 13:08:13 | Definitely a pure cleric would be better... like vastly better... than a mystic theurge. Cleric might not be a bad idea, since they could just buff up before combat and then bash things, avoiding losing actions because of casting in combat. But I don't like the split hit points thing much. What happens if one of them dies? It sounds like a really bad idea to be in melee when you have half normal hit points. You could put Shield Other on one of them and let it melee, while the other sits back and fires a bow or something, to kind of circumvent that problem. Do they both have to concentrate to use wands? If not, the bow-wielder could just heal himself with a wand if needed, while melee-twin keeps bashing. Getting double actions is a freakin' amazing benefit, if you can mitigate the racial drawbacks somehow. |
| #9khorusFeb 25, 2009 13:10:06 | um if one dies good point that is the worst part of them lol, the other one days at a rate of 1d4 wis and str dmg a day lol. |
| #10khorusFeb 25, 2009 13:11:51 | I want to play them really bad but after brain storming with you guys I thinking caster is out of their realm of options. BUT Whirling Frenzy Lightning Maces would be amazing, Oh one other tidbit if you can rage 1 x a day then only one of them can rage. It takes a seperate use for each one, same thing for Wild Shape or anything else. Also if they flank they get +3 bonus instead of 2 because of the link they share. And if one is affected by something such as Enlarge person he can spend 1 round to focus and channel that spell to his twin (he loses it and the other gains it) |
| #11yteh_ek_pfffFeb 25, 2009 16:01:36 | Probably the best thing would be ether Warlock or Dragon fire adept. because they don't encounter the problem of spellcasting, they can maintain a distance and put out more damage then you average member of the same class. |
| #12khorusFeb 26, 2009 7:08:36 | hmm didn't think about them, Do invocations have to be "concentrated" on. Or they at will? |
| #13taerg_norFeb 26, 2009 10:24:43 | Invocations are spell-like, so i think you don't need to concentrate on them (at least no concentration roll to cast defensively). About the Arcane Hierophant or Mystic Theurge thing, if both need to be concentrating on a spell, then there's not much use for it, unless you use some nasty shenanigans, like getting battle jump and some means of flying, then you could cast a spell, and take a move action with each one over your desired enemies to charge them, thus casting 1 spell and making 2 charge attacks (with 1 barb lvl meaning 2 full attacks). If you are gonna go melee take 3 level of Devoted Defender, and always keep both of your characters next to each other, so they can each deflect an attack for the other one and gain a free attack against an attacker. I will later post you a couple more ideas i had written for 2 axiomatic charas that worked very similar to this. Hope it helps, Targ Nor Master Harper Incantatar. |
| #14yteh_ek_pfffFeb 26, 2009 12:59:35 | hmm didn't think about them, Do invocations have to be "concentrated" on. Or they at will? If you only get 24h invocations then you don't need to worry about concentration |
| #15arturius1Feb 26, 2009 13:13:43 | Because they are split into two bodies, Cooperative Spell might be worth taking. Depending on your DM's interpretation you could use it between the two/one of you. |
| #16malkavonFeb 26, 2009 16:31:04 | Dvati are very ... odd. They have some amazing powers, and they have some very harsh penalties. As stated, they get double actions for anything except spellcasting. They divide their hp from HD but not from Con, so a Dvati Fighter 1 would have 5 + Con hp for each body. Thus, Dvati really need Con boosters (Improved Toughness should add to each as well, making it a good feat for Dvati). The bodies can communicate telepathically with unlimited range and across the planes. They share class features (so limited-use abilities get used up for both if either uses one), feats, etc. If one twin dies, the other takes 1d4 Con and Wis damage and gains a cumulative -1 penalty to attack rolls, skill checks, and saves each day. As far as I know, they don't have to concentrate for spell-like abilities or magic items, so one could use a wand while the other does something else. You know what would be awesome? Dvati Bard with Dragonfire Inspiration and optimized for inspire courage. One twin uses Dragonfire Inspiration, the other uses Inspire Courage, then both go to town. While they share one pool of Bardic Music uses, a straight Bard 20 (or close to it) should have enough uses to get them through a decent number of encounters. Bard is even the favored class for Dvati. |
| #17khorusFeb 27, 2009 7:13:04 | Never Played a bard b4, Kinda was scared of them. Is there a more melee based prc for them? or Variant |
| #18malkavonFeb 27, 2009 17:57:37 | Never Played a bard b4, Kinda was scared of them. Is there a more melee based prc for them? or Variant For Inspire Courage stacking (esp. in this case where you want to get as many uses of Bardic Music as possible) straight Bard is one of the better ways to go. The only other alternative that's really viable is to go Crusader/Warblade with the Song of the White Raven feat. That way loses a lot of bardic music uses, though. Honestly, straight Bard 20 optimized for Inspire Courage is completely playable and makes a damn good melee character. Try to pick up quality buffs for your spells (alter self, haste, etc) with a few utility spells thrown in as needed. When you can buff yourself with spells and then give yourself a +12 (or more!) to attack and damage and +12d6 fire damage you can go ahead and call yourself a melee character. Esp. when you can have two combatants who can flank for extra bonus to attack with each other :D. This was just an idea though, if you're not keen on playing a Bard don't force yourself to. I just realized the doubling up they could get to make themselves real powerhouses. Pretty much any melee-type with a source of extra damage (sneak attack, etc) will benefit from the doubling up of actions. Even a simple Rogue 20 would be great. Extra bonuses for Aiding on Search/Disable Device, they can flank with each other (and score bigger bonuses) and sneak attack together. It'd be a decent setup all around, really. |
