Hi, I'm trying to make a Dwarven berserker-type character and I could use some assistance. Here's what I figured out so far.

Ranger3/Barbarian4/Deepwarden 2

Gives rage x2, skill points, and CON to AC instead of DEX (less multiple-attribute dependency). Could also take the Lion Totem feature to get pounce attack on charges. TWF could be used to double-attack with greataxe and armor spikes.

Possible feats:
Power Attack
Extra Rage
Improved Bullrush
Shock Trooper
Leap Attack

(to get extra feats, I could take a couple of flaws or Fighter levels)

The trouble is, figuring out where to proceed from here. What Prestige Classes do you think would work well with this build?

Possibilities:

Battlerager - Heard this wasn't as good as some other options, but the flavor seems cool.

Frenzied Berserker - An easy choice given its power, but it's somewhat risky to use. Not sure if I want to risk wiping out the rest of the party.

Runescarred Berserker - Seems like an interesting way to get some spell power, but carries some heavy feat prerequisites (especially for a non-human character).

Deepwarden - Is it worth taking more than two levels of Deepwarden (for the CON to AC)?

I'd drop 2 barbarian levels and take 2 fighter levels instead, you can take the extra rage feat and be up one feat and 1 rage/day.

You could also take the steadfast determination feat and completely dump wisdom.

Deepwarden isn't a bad class to take levels in, there are worse things than getting full BAB, d12 hit dice, and 6 skill points/level.

Some other classes to consider are dwarf paragon, exotic weapon master with the dwarven waraxe for uncanny blow, and pious templar if you don't dump wisdom.

Yea, about the best way to get into Deepwarden is actually

Ranger1
Fighter2
Barbarian2
Deepwarden2

pretty much in that order. You can intermingle the fighter and barb a bit, but you have to take the ranger first or you won't get enough skill points around. This costs you about 3 HP over taking barbarian first, but HP aren't that rough because of the near total Con dependance.

Another thing you might want to check with your DM about is whether or not +Con to AC is affected by Max Dex Bonus. The FAQ says no, but most DMs I've played with say yes. Plus, we all know what the FAQs track record is as far as decision making.

Great PrCs to take after Deepwarden include:
Exotic Weapons Master (for Uncanny Blow with a War Axe or Flurry with an Urgrosh 2handed)
Pious Templar
Occult Slayer
Runescarred Berzerker
Frenzied Berzerker
Frost Rager + Fist of the Forest

or maybe even a bit of Bear Warrior if you can get some Gloves of Man from Savage Species or a couple levels in Warshaper so you can still wield your weapon.

Oh, and don't forget about taking Steadfast Determination. You already have to take Endurance to get into Deepwarden, might as well consolidate that Con to use it in MORE places. Plus, never failing fort saves on a 1 is HUGE. PHBII for more details!
