| #1spectorApr 23, 2010 5:02:51 | Hey. Just started a new group and picked to play a dwarven scout. Now, I'm planning on specing thrown axes specifically and take levels in Master Thrower as soon as I'm able, meaning around level 7 or 8. I understand that one of the "throwing tricks" the Master Thrower can use is Doubletoss which gives me the ability to throw 2 throwing weapons at once but I'm treated as using two weapon fighting. So I'm thinking maybe on getting all the two weapon fighting feats (Improved, Greater). Problem is that most the scout bonus feats wont be much useful for this build (beside Trace and Far Shot). Here's what I thought my build should be: Total Character Levels in () Scout 1 - PBS Scout 3 - PS Scout 4 - Track (Bonus) Scout 6 - Weapon Focus: Throwing Axe Scout 8 - Far Shot (Bonus) Master Thrower 1 (9) - Two Weapon Fighting Master Thrower 2 (10) Scout 9 (11) Scout 10 (12) - Improved PS Scout 11 (13) Master Thrower 3 (14) Master Thrower 4 (15) - Improved Two Weapon Fighting Master Thrower 5 (16) Scout 12 (17) - Improved Skirmishing (Bonus) Scout 13 (18) - Greater Two Weapon Fighting Scout 14 (19) Scout 15 (20) Thoughts ? |

I suggest a single level of cleric and the travel devotion feat (Complete Champion). That lets you move your speed as a swift action on all but your first turn in combat. You should also note that some prestige classes advance skirmish damage faster than scout. It is possible to get skirmish +9d6/+1 (+11d6/+3 with improved skirmish) by 20th level. |

That will let you throw something like a greataxe at people and Bloodstorm Blade will also make anything you throw return to your hand immediately, so you can make your iterative attacks with one weapon. This will let you actually use a fully enchanted weapon. I second the cleric + travel devotion thing. |
| #5spectorApr 24, 2010 6:35:23 | I'm in an RPing group.. my DM doesnt allow broken munchkiness like multiclassing only a couple of levels just for the sake of getting special abilities. About getting Bloodstorm Balde levels it is possible since one of the other PCs is a Warblade with knowledge of the Iron Heart stance and manuvers, so I guess my character can train off his knowledge. |

Surely, your DM would allow you to multiclass with scout and an arcane casting class for the purpose of entering a prestige class that advances skirmish and arcane casting. Dread necromancer (Heroes of Horror) can work in the place of cleric, but requires you to take a feat. This also sets you up for unseen seer (Complete Mage), which will advance the arcane casting from dread necromancer at every level and give you +4d6 skirmish damage across its 10 levels. Unseen seer does not advance the AC bonus from skirmish, it's a bit of an odd progression. |
| #7spectorApr 24, 2010 11:47:35 | Sorry but i'm looking for non-PGing tips. And we're an RPing group like I said, leening towards more logical character choices. Taking Bloodstone Blade levels is possible in my case but why (and how RP-wise) would a dwarven scout be a Dread Necromancer, even for the sake of skirmish damage ? |
| #8elthenarApr 24, 2010 13:42:13 | Sorry but i'm looking for non-PGing tips. And we're an RPing group like I said, leening towards more logical character choices. Do you realize where you are posting? You come to the char op board and then complain about getting power gaming advice?!?! |
| #9Maat_MonsApr 24, 2010 15:34:43 | ...why (and how RP-wise) would a dwarven scout be a Dread Necromancer, even for the sake of skirmish damage? For the same reasons and in the same manner as anyone else. I assume your issue is rooted in the classes being unrelated. I don't see any issue with a character studying two unrelated fields. It just seems to indicate the character has diverse interests and is multifaceted. Here's an example of a possible motivation. You served in the military during a large war, putting your scout abilities to use tracking enemy movements and conducting raids. You saw a lot of death during the war and became fascinated by how something could be living and breathing one moment, then lifeless the next. You never lost that fascination. Indeed, it has grown. You now find your thoughts turning to the moment of death often and to the possibility of reversing the transition, if only partially. Sorry but i'm looking for non-PGing tips. As elthenar has alluded, this board is wholly dedicated to optimization/min-maxing/powergaming/whatever you like to call it. Technically, the character development board is the place for this, but it doesn't seem to get much traffic these days. The classes and class features board tends to be less focused on optimization and might be a better place for this. |
