| #1mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 6:43:16 | Hello. I'm new here, but I have been reading this forum for a while (I have readed about 40 pages of this forum to find an appropriate build but found nothing really good). So If you could help me, I would be very thankful. **** I'm looking for a "fighter" build, which will be suitable for 1 vs 1 fight with another "fighting" character. It would be something like arena fight. There are few rules: * It must be a "fighter", not a class Fighter, but a character which main ability is to fight. (Warblade, Ranger, Fighter, Monk, etc.) * It must have an ECL 5. And race without spell likes. * And the most important, It should be optimized to fight with another character, build on same rules. * You can use all official handbooks from WotC. Few additional informations: * It can be "Archer" character, but It must not Fly. * It should be capable of overcoming such things: High AC, Grappling, High HP. **** As I said before I would be very thankful if you help me with that. Time is essential too. ;) Thanks in advance. Mindlessone |
| #2bronzebeardMay 12, 2008 8:08:58 | it can be archer but shouldn't fly?... how the two connected? first, I'll advice you to check my signature for the "Surreal Handy links". Most helpful builds will pop out there. Second, as throu posting rules, you neglacted to mention what kind of fighter you would like to play. All I read was what can be done. And with that still you can make lots of builds. Third! Welcome aboard! |
| #3mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 9:21:30 | how the two connected? It would be unfair to fly and just shoot, and shoot, to pure meele fighter at the arena. So flying is out. ;) first, I'll advice you to check my signature for the "Surreal Handy links". Thank you for this link. Second, as throu posting rules, you neglacted to mention what kind of fighter you would like to play. All I read was what can be done. And with that still you can make lots of builds. I would like to play some build, which will simply overdamage my enemy. But keep in mind that it should also easily hit my enemy. Or I would also like to play some decent Archer build with + speed, to double speed my enemy, so i can just shoot him up. If u can give me some decent build for that. I would be thankful. Third! Welcome aboard! Aye, sir! Edit: PB 32, for Atributes. |
| #4mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 11:08:03 | Was considering: Shifter Barbarian 1/Fighter 2/ Warblade 1/Warshaper. But It does too little dmg, to be a good build. Edit: Anyone can help? ;) |
| #5llochlynMay 12, 2008 11:30:57 | I'd go with a Warblade with reach (a guisarme is fine), improved trip and combat reflexes. You can use Moment of Perfect Mind to take care of those pesky will saves, trip your foes and attack if their AC is too high, etc. Something like that : |
| #6mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 11:36:21 | I should have said it before. No flaws allowed. But Thank YOU very much for this build. If anyone can also help me. With no variant rules and flaws (nor traits). Please. ![]() Edit: 9000 for Equipment. |
| #7surrealMay 12, 2008 12:56:17 | A human paladin with mounted combat --> ride by attack --> spirited charge will make short work of just about anything at ecl 5. |
| #8mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 13:01:38 | No mounts allowed. ![]() |
| #9xoraxxMay 12, 2008 13:26:45 | How about: Lothtouched Human Barbarian 1/ Fighter 2/ Scout 1 With Lion totem substitution from CC and whirling frenzy from UA Use a Reach weapon |
| #10mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 13:37:44 | Lloth Touched got Banned on our Arena unfortunatelly. But thanks for trying. ![]() Please Help me. ![]() |
| #11jaronkMay 12, 2008 13:37:49 | Um, Half Minotaur Mineral Warrior Water Orc (ECL 2!) Whirling Frenzy Wolf Totem Barbarian 2/Crusader 1 1. Gets Improved Trip free, so make his feats Extra Granted Manuever and Stone Power. Between his DR, Stone Power, and healing strikes he's basically immortal. And he hits like a truck. And with a move speed of 50, no one can escape! Use a Guisarme and go to town. JaronK |
| #12blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 13:42:31 | In a similar situation at the same level, there were a few characters that really shone: 1) Duskblade with a scroll of keen edge 2) Swift Hunter archer with goggles of foefinding 3) Barbarian/Fighter with whirling frenzy and lion totem 4) Warforged Artificer/Warblade (bane weapon!) |
| #13mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 13:46:28 | JaronK, your build is so gr8 and so full of win but... No UA ![]() It is Banned on Arena. ![]() |
| #14blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 13:51:44 | Psst - you might consider posting the extensive list of banned stuff ahead of time to save effort made on your behalf... ;) |
| #15mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 13:54:48 | Yes, I am SO SORRY. ![]() So to make it CLEAR. ********** Book of Exalted Deeds, Cityscape, Champions of Ruin, Champions of Valor, Complete Adventurer, Complete Arcane, Complete Champion, Complete Divine, Complete Mage, Complete Psionic, Complete Scoundrel, Complete Warrior, Draconomicon, Dragonlance Campaign Setting, Dragon Magic, Dragonmarked, Dragons of Faerûn, Drow of the Underdark, Dungeon Master’s Guide, Dungeon Master’s Guide II, Dungeonscape, Eberron Campaign Setting, Expanded Psionic Handbook, Explorer’s Handbook, Faiths of Eberron, Fiendish Codex I: Hordes of the Abyss, Fiendish Codex II: Tyrants of the Nine Hells, Five Nations, Frostburn, Heroes of Battle, Heroes of Horror, Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness, Lost Empires of Faerûn, Magic Item Compendium, Magic of Eberron, Magic of Incarnum, Miniatures Handbook, Monster Manual, Monster Manual III, Monster Manual IV, Mysteries of the Moonsea, Planar Handbook, Player's Guide to Eberron, Player’s Guide to Faerûn, Player’s Handbook, Player's Handbook II, Power of Faerûn, Races of Destiny, Races of the Dragon, Races of Eberron, Races of Stone, Races of the Wild, Sandstorm, Secrets of Sarlona, Secrets of Xen’drik, Serpent Kingdoms, Sharn: City of Towers, Shining South, Spell Compendium, Stormwrack, Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords, Tome of Magic: Pact, Shadow, and the True Name Magic, Unapproachable East, Underdark, Waterdeep: City of Splendors, Weapons of Legacy. *** Here is the stuff which is NOT banned. So you can use it. ![]() |
| #16blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 14:32:19 | Cool, thanks! What kinds of characters have you faced in this arena before, and what have you already fielded? |
| #17mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 14:34:21 | So It will be fight between two "fighting" characters. We made an agreement that we won't use any spellcasting classes. So it would be somehow fighting class. And PROBABLY made only by SRD. What kinds of characters have you faced in this arena before, and what have you already fielded? It will be my first fight, so I don't want to loose so easily. And the characters there are pretty tough as i know. It is arena of a bunch of powergamers ;) So they got some very good ideas.** It would be gr8 if you help me. With some decent build at ECL 5, PB 32. ![]() |
| #18blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 14:47:10 | So can you use flight for a melee character with no ranged attacks? |
| #19mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 14:49:09 | Yes. If no ranged nor spells. Flying is ok. ![]() |
| #20blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 14:59:50 | One last question: what is the physical arrangement of the arena? Size, starting distance, obstacles, etc. |
| #21mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 15:04:33 | 1005ft./1005ft./1005ft But half of it is ground. So we get sth like 1005ft./1005ft/502.5ft(high). No obstacles. Starting Positions: -250/0/0 i 250/0/0. 0/0/0 is the center of the Arena. |
| #22mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 15:51:05 | Raptoran Fighter 1/Barbarian 1/Crusader 3 Hmm, Do you guys know HOW It can make about ~~200 dmg? ![]() My friend, just gave me a hint, about this build, but I have no idea, how It works. It is "to do on PB 32, standard GP and two non magic daggers". As he said. ;) |
| #23blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 15:56:20 | Raptoran Warblade 5 Str 18, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 8 (level bump went to Str) Feats: Power Attack, Air Heritage (+30' fly speed, Planar Handbook), Combat Reflexes (bonus) Skills: Tumble 5 ranks, Balance 5 ranks Skill Tricks: Twisted Charge Maneuvers: Bonecrusher, Battle Leader's Charge, Disarming Strike or Emerald Razor, Steely Strike, Moment of Perfect Mind Stances: Leading the Charge, Stance of Clarity Gear: +1 ripper (2d6 piercing, 19-20 crit, Planar Handbook), +1 chain shirt, anklet of translocation (swift 10' teleport, Magic Item Compendium), heartseeking amulet (swift, next melee = touch, Magic Item Compendium), potion bracer (no AoO to use potion, no action to draw, Sharn: City of Towers), 1 or 2 extra rippers in case of disarm/sunder, dagger Consumable items: potion of wings of air (Spell Compendium), potion of see invisibility (if invisibility is not banned), potion of shield wouldn't hurt either -- Round-by-round tactics: 1) Start in Stance of Clarity, drink your potion of wings of air - you'll have fly 70' (good) now. (If you can keep your speed secret, it will help a lot.) 2) Walk forwards until you're 140' from your opponent. 3) Fly up 30' and end 100' away. Switch stances to Leading the Charge. 4) You should be able to charge up to 140' now (don't forget that you get double speed going down). Activate heartseeking amulet, full power attack, initiate Battle Leader's Charge, end in a spot that gives you higher ground: melee touch +9 (4d6+54), no AoOs. -blarg ps - the wings of air and twisted charge let you start on the ground, charge up into the air 15', and come down 10' while covering 30' horizontal in a single charge. |
| #24mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 15:58:30 | You are the winner, Sir! ![]() Blarg. You are my God. ![]() Thanks you a lot! Edit: If someone got another idea of ECL 5 Char, post it here. ![]() |
| #25logicninjaMay 12, 2008 16:06:51 | Barbarian 1/Psychic Warrior 2/Fighter 1/Warblade 1 Use a Guisarme and armor spikes. Get Enlarge Person potions. Use Warblade maneuvers for things like Sudden Leap, and Mountain Hammer. If you have access to Unapproachable Easted, take Wolf Lodge Berserker (I think it's called), which lets you qualify for Improved Trip; otherwise, just Expertise + Improved Trip. One-on-one, you won't need Combat Reflexes, so take Deft Opportunist, Power Attack, Stand Still... Smash the hell out of things from outside their range, and trip or Stand Still them when they try to get close. If you're worried about enlarged opponents, drop a couple feats for Aberrant Blood + Aberrant Reach from Lords of Madness. |
| #26XeraphMay 12, 2008 16:10:38 | Hmmm... The Immortal Soul Human 1 - Crusader 1 Combat Reflexes, Weapon Finesse 2 - Incarnate 1 3 - Incarnate 2 Expanded Soulmeld Capacity (Theraputic Mantle) 4 - Incarnate 3 5 - Fighter 1 Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Kusari Gama) Str: 11 (3) Dex: 18 (13) Increased to 18 at 4th level Con: 16 (10) Int: 10 (2) Wis: 12 (4) Cha: 8 Fort: +7 Ref: +5 Will: +4 Attack: +7 Stance: Martial Spirit Manuevers: Stone Bones, Crusaders Strike, Charging Minotaur, Douse the Flames, whatever... Tactic: Before combat you pump 3 essentia into your Theraputic Mantle. This gives your Martial Spirit a tremendous boost. For every attack that strikes your opponent you heal yourself 9 hit points. A successful Crusader's Strike heals you 1d6 +8 hit points. Basically, as long as you hit your opponent, you wil live. So, you use your Kusari Gama from reach, while hiding behind your shield. You have a good initiative and may win initiative. If you do you use Charging Minotaur. Up against a AoO monster, you have Douse the Flames to even the odds. And you have Combat Reflexes to make good use of your high Dexterity. Your saves are ok aswell. Equpiment: Whatever that boosts AC, to hit, and Will saves. Also this guide is interesting... trying it out for a character ATM myself. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?p=15041813 Cheers. |
| #27tshernMay 12, 2008 16:11:25 | Combat reflexes is still nice as it allows to make AoOs flat-footed, so losing initiative is not quite that bad. |
| #28logicninjaMay 12, 2008 16:15:50 | Good point, Tshern. Okay, that makes Combat Reflexes a must. I forgot Imp. Init, but CR can replace it. |
| #29tshernMay 12, 2008 16:24:15 | Good point, Tshern. Okay, that makes Combat Reflexes a must. I forgot Imp. Init, but CR can replace it. I merely returned the favor, you reminded me of this in the discussion about an optimized Tarrasque and avoiding its Robilar's gambit. |
| #30mindlessoneMay 12, 2008 16:26:27 | Xeraph, LogicNinja. Your builds also gr8. ![]() I do not know, what to choose now ;) Edit: But unfortunatelly DR310 (Incarnate) isn't available. ![]() |
| #31XeraphMay 12, 2008 16:33:24 | Credits go to Surreal for mentioning the Theraputic Mantle + Martial Spirit combo... AKA *SMACK! Slurp* "Yay, 1d6 +17 hp! I am at full HP again!" |
| #32surrealMay 12, 2008 17:13:09 | Huzzah, I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my ideas being suggested. Now to do it with a Thri-Keen multipouncer with vicious weapons... |
| #33blargney_the_secondMay 12, 2008 19:26:47 | Barbarian 1/Psychic Warrior 2/Fighter 1/Warblade 1 You could get a poor man's Thicket of Blades on there with a dragonborn breath weapon and Entangling Exhalation. Readied actions make it all the more fun. -blarg |
