I'm looking to try and build an effigy master, entering and finishing it as quickly as possible. I thought about using artificer as the base class for entry as well as sorcerer. But i turn to you all for help with making it the best build possible.

Any and all sources are allowed, stats believe it or not are as follows: 20, 18,18,18,16,15... generated with a houserule system of 1d12 + 8. LA buyoff is an option as are flaws and traits.

Thanks in advance!

Generally we tend to put as much effort into our responses as you put into the original post.

OK, lets look at the class:
Craft (leatherworking, metalworking, or woodworking) 10 ranks
Knowledge (Arcana) and Spellcraft 5 ranks
UMD 2 ranks
Craft Wonderous Items
Must have Simulacrum on his class spell list

Artificers don't have this last requirement, as they don't have a spell list. So, forget that. Sorcerers are Cha based characters, but the prereqs require a lot of ranks. Since your attributes are so high, you can just keep Int up to do this, but you'll be 2 behind your Wizard in casting. I recomend using a Wizard base. Not only that, but you'll get better synergy from your Wizard and much broader spell selection (you don't want the limited spellcasters to be stuck with some of the dud spells).

So, its obvious: Wizard 7 / Effigy Master 5 and you're done. If you absolutely require Artificer, then its gotta be Artificer 6 / Wizard or Sorcerer 1 / Effigy Master 5. You could use any arcane caster base with Arcane Disciple: Envy. You could also do it with a divine caster if you either took the Envy domain or got access to the envy domain via a prestige class (Contemplative). Formally, Archivists don't have a spell list of their own, so they can't work either, but your DM might work with you on that.

You can increase your skill one point past the limit using the Cityscape Favored Contact feat. It could reduce you level for entry to spellcaster 6 / effigy 5 (but it requires 2 feats to get into). Likewise, there's the Codex Anethma which can help you with the skill ranks in Knowledge (Arcana), but you won't want to use that.

James well put as usual and very informative thank you.

Well, it was coincidental: I reread the Fleshwarper PrC in LoM and was thinking lately on how to maximize that fairly limited PrC.
