I remember once, a while ago, seeing a Cleric spell, a Positive Energy counterpart to Energy Drain, that used the MMIII's Energy Charge to inflict positive levels.

I cannot for the life of me find it anymore, or ANY creature that can inflict Positive Levels at all.

Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

Only place I've seen positive levels in, was Bastion of Broken Souls.

senevri please elaborate, I don't have that book

I checked out what the OP was talking about. Its fascinating (see the end of MMIII) but i just rechecked ALL the creatures in the book. None of them have a similar ability...

This sounds like it could be like the temporary HD from a bardic music ability, but without restrictions. Mmmm tasty

Are you possibly reffering to the Positive Energy "Overcharge" that happens when you are standing in the Positive Energy plane? A cleric (or wizard) could channel the planar traits via spells.

I honestly don't know of any "Positive Levels" though.

Actually, check the Pun-pun thread for how that works, it's part of how he achieves NI levels :P

Positive Levels and Energy Charge are the counterpart to Negative Levels and Energy Drain.

While each Negative Level robs a spellcaster of one of his highest level spells per level, and applys a -1 penalty per level to attacks, checks, and saves, Positive Levels grant a spellcaster an additional spell of his highest level, and grants a +1 competance bonus per level to attacks, checks, and saves.

I remember seeing a counterpart to the Enervation and Energy Drain spells somewhere that granted Positive Levels. I think they were 5th and 9th level, and granted 1 and 2 levels, respectively, but i'm not sure. If i had to guess, i'd say the names were Invigorate and Energy Charge, but my searches have come up nil.

I thought I'd heard about this somewhere before...

While Positive Energy Levels exist that will reduce their effective Hit Dice, they are so broken when used on living creatures (which is almost every player character) that your DM isn't going to use them. Ever.

Um... the OP is right. Please check out the back of MM3 (211) where it lists the creature types and abilities.

I'm still dying to know if anyone's found a creature that has the "Energy Charge (Su)" ability??

Positive Energy Levels would be very broken. Additional 9th lvl slots, yes please.

But isn't it every CO'ers mission to find the broken and the not-broken and bring them together in strange and wonderful ways?

Even if it does work, it must carry some sort of risk, like Positive Energy overcharge. I'd allow it, but make it rather dangerous to use often, such as by adding frequent Fort saves to not explode, as well as something akin to Mindburn/Bodyburn.

Lets discuss balance after we have dealt with the issue at hand.

Cantripn, the problem is we can't find a source for these.

Perhaps it doesn't exist??

Perhaps it doesn't exist??

It doesen't, I have seen homebrew spells which are probably your best bet. It should be relatively simple to create a new positive energy mechanic and implement it in two new spells.

Okay so hers all I found in bastion of broken souls.....

Soul Totem (Major Artifact): The God Who Was
Banned, Desayeus, sought to expand his portfolio
over preincarnate souls. Fearing the Ban of the
Unborn would strike beyond Desayeus, a coalition of
deities stripped Desayeus of his divinity and shattered
the symbol of his power, the Soul Totem, into
three pieces. Much of Desayeus’s former power
remains locked up in the three pieces.
Powers of the Totem (one piece): The most powerful
use of the Soul Totem, in whole or in part, is as a key to
the Bastion of Unborn Souls. If worn as an amulet, it
allows any wearer casting plane shift to automatically
transfer five miles away from the Bastion of Unborn
Souls on the Positive Energy Plane, and from there
travel unerringly to the Bastion and its
single entrance.
Powers (two pieces): The wearer
enjoys the benefits of one positive
level. A positive level confers
a +1 bonus on skill
checks, ability checks,
attack rolls, and saving
throws, +5 hp, and a +1
bonus to character level
(that is, whenever the
creature’s level is used in a
die roll or calculation,
increase its value by 1). In
addition, a spellcaster temporarily
gains access to one
spell per positive level
from the highest spell
level the caster can normally
cast.
Powers (all three pieces):Wearer gains
three positive levels, plus base powers.
Each month the completely assembled Soul Totem
is worn, there is a base 10% chance that an assembly
of gods, concerned about the Ban of the Unborn,
attempts to slay the wearer and break the Totem back
down to its component pieces, and once more scatter
those pieces across the cosmos.
