They can cast in light armor, use int to cast, get a good selection of enchantment and illusion spells (but not much else), and get 6+int skills per level with most of the rogue list as class skills. Archivist (Heroes of Horror) is a divine casting class that uses both int and wis for casting. If you can use Dragonlance material, there's a feat that makes it entirely int based. The only down side to wizard is that it restricts you armor choices. It's certainly possible to use a casting class not based on int. There's less synergy, but it would still work out fine. If you can use Dragonlance: Legend of the Twins, the academic priest feat lets you use int for divine casting, except for save DCs. If you stick with spells that don't have saves (those that benefit you or your allies, those that summon creatures, wall spells, et cetera) you don't need to make wis a focus. |

I know psions can pair up really well with it but I'm not sure if my DM will allow psions. The main reason psionic characters generally synergize well with the Tome is because psionic focus gives them a few good options for Concentration that are unique to them. These options generally turn Diamond Mind into a powerhouse. However, you don't need those stunts to make Diamond Mind useful, nor do you need to actually specialize in Diamond Mind. (If you decide to avoid Diamond Mind altogether, psionics can actually be suboptimal!) The issue in gestalt with psionics/ToB isn't actually the Concentration synergy, though. It's the ability score synergy. The biggest boost you can get from psionics as a figher-type is the psychic warrior power list, and psywars come with a full smattering of fighter feats too. The drawback? They use Wisdom, not Intelligence, as their class setup. In an epic game, spellcasters are absolute king. There's no two ways about it, melee just can't keep up. Thus, I'd suggest looking at caster builds that play like warriors (warrior/mage types), ideally based on Intelligence and erring more on the mage side, then apply Warblade to it (it's a fine class 1-20, actually) and play it just as it suggests, just with warblade maneuvers. This will probably produce a stronger overall character than thinking of it as a warblade primarily. If you want a really fun option, look into the Eternal Blade. It has Intelligence synergy, yes, but those are gravy. The class itself is mostly based around bypassing everything that could possibly hold melee back. Some of those options also work with casting, although you may need other sneaky approaches. Perhaps an Eternal Blade build on one side, and Beguiler 20 on the other, since it can completely bypass SR? (I'd have to double check how Duskblade arcane channelling would work with maneuvers, but I wouldn't recommend it even if it did, since damage is not the way to win at epic levels.) |

I know that I don't want to be a seer. Other than that the other disciplines each have good sides to them. Also the race is gray elf if that helps any. |

Diamond Mind synergy with the save maneuvers and taking a 15 with your psionic focus is ba. Also consider taking some Ironheart maneuvers to get Ironheart Surge (3rd level maneuver), it lets you pretty much cancel any effect on you that is negative, which is ba (bye bye antimagic field). Also, if you finagle your maneuvers a little you can end up with a 3rd discipline to pick maneuvers out of. If you want your guy to be a good team player, go White Raven, if you want him to be a little bit more deadly in combat, go Tiger Claw, and if you want your guy to be better at dealing with big, solo bad guys, go Stone Dragon. My favorite 9th level maneuvers are Time Stands Still, Mountain Tombstone Strike (...of WTFPWNZR ), and Strike of Perfect Clarity. |
| #6alastordraculAug 29, 2011 18:11:45 | I have almost everything done. I am dropping 3 levels of psion for swashbuckler to get extra damage and taking the elven courtblade. I am dropping gray elf for tiefling. As the warblade goes I am sticking mostly with Diamond Mind and Iron Heart. I am thinking about going with a counter attack build that one of my friends used. It combos Robilar's Gambit and Stormguard Warrior with Time Stands Still, Avalanche of Blades, and Diamond Nightmare Blade. As for the psion half I am thinking egoist to augment my melee skills. I am not sure if I want to take a psicrystal to add psionic focus to. I know its a few extra feats but I should have the feat slots available. Also I am not sure if Psionic Meditation I worth it since I am taking Instant Clarity. The Psychic Weapon tree is being taken. |

Also I am not sure if Psionic Meditation I worth it since I am taking Instant Clarity. The Psychic Weapon tree is being taken. 1) Psionic Weapon may not be as useful as you'd think, so be advised that you can drop it if you need space. I guarantee you'll see higher damage with Deep Impact over Psionic Weapon, though, and you should definitely look into Psicrystal Affinity. (Not only does it let you use two focus feats at once, it also lets you use the Solicit Psicrystal power and do the super-efficient Vigor / Share Pain trick.) 2) If you have to drop anything for Swashbuckler, drop Warblade, not Psion. Spellcasting (manifesting) is absolutely critical to epic games, and every lost caster (manifester) level really hurts. This goes doubly true if you're playing a tiefling, and thus accepting a level adjustment. (Note that Insightful Strike works best if you're attacking multiple times, too - if you find yourself relying on single-hit strikes, this will be of lesser effect.) 3) How are you adding Diamond Nightmare Blade into that specific combination? (The Avalanche / Combat Rhythm / Time Stands Still combo is well-established and very good, but it eats up all your actions something fierce. If you really need to pull it off quickly, as in the same round, you're probably going to need Eternal Blade (none of the psion tricks for extra turns will work if you're fighting in melee). Note that you're going to need to give enemies a reason to attack you to get the most out of Robilar's here, so I'd strongly suggest using a reach weapon. 4) The real winner list is the psychic warrior list, so spend your psion bonus feats on Expanded Knowledge from there. The usual shortlist for warrior-types is Dimension Hop (Freedom mantle 1), Expansion (Psywar 1), and Strength of My Enemy (Psywar 2); there's a few others that are worth looking into but those are the biggest and available the soonest. If you can't get psywar powers, egoist is a very close second, although a huge amount of the egoist pull is for Metamorphosis and Greater Metamorphosis. (Without those powers, it's not as hot as it seems, and most of what you would want could probably be pulled from magic items anyway. The only remaining winners are Fission and Hustle.) All that said, I'm surprised you're trying warrior-type primary in epic. Spellcaster-primary type is usually the only thing that holds a candle to the appropriate epic challenges. Do not neglect your psion side. |

Also psions are a bit new to me. Somewhere I have a gestalt wizard/psion cannon with the infinite pp loop. It channelled pp into spells to make them pretty crazy. I am also building a few alts so I have a new character ready if mine dies. The first one I finnished is a bullrush build. Its a Warforged Barbarian/Dungeon Crasher Fighter/Warforged Juggernaut/ Frenzied Berserker. Its mainly for lulz |
