| #1stolideAug 09, 2009 13:26:30 | Hey, I'm playing a gestalt game that looks like it will go into epic (most of the people are 19th level gestalt, but one person is 23 or 24th level non gestalt) and I wanted to ask a few questions about designing epic level spells. I'm playing a character that values quantity quite highly. He normally uses hordes of fiendish monkey simulacra (glass mephit familiar). Since one half of the gestalt is a wizard (the other artificer) I wanted to know as to how to best make an epic level summoning spell for quantity. I really don't care how skilled they are, as long as they can get in the way, be annoying, and hit on a natural 20, I'm good with it. :P Unfortunately, it looks like the way an epic summoning spell works, it encourages summoning one powerful monster. So then I looked into the 10th level and up spells. It looks like by stacking on a rediculous number of metamagic feats, I could get around 30 monsters out of a summon monster 1. That's kinda dissapointing really since he'd be better off not even using the spell... Is there a way to come up with an epic spell that summons a horde of something beyond monsters that count as swarms? Would I just be better off using my horde of monkeys and supplementing them with powerful summons? The monkeys have spears with a couple nasty venoms (Collosal spider and scorpian I believe) and an acid thing (some psionic power that goes off when you hit the target). If so, what would be good things to go after? Thanks in advance. |
