| #1thogMar 19, 2008 16:34:00 | I'm building a level 20 Factotum, which will either be a 20th Level Factotum, or Factotum 10/Chameleon 10 Anyway, except for the obvious Int+6 item and probably a Tome of Understanding +5, I'm wondering where to put my equipment budget... |
| #2swiftbluMar 19, 2008 18:04:25 | What role will you play in the party? Considering your builds, I'm assuming "whatever isn't taken", but I still don't know. In general, I would suggest Wands of CLW or Lesser Vigor to UMD, a portable hole, and some Quaal's Feather Tokens. The tokens might not seem like much, but if you fly up really high, just above the enemy... |

| #4tshernMar 19, 2008 18:30:45 | Why not Factotum 11/Chameleon 9? 11th level of Factotum is a lot more important that Chameleon 10. |
| #5thogApr 05, 2008 21:58:54 | Why not Factotum 11/Chameleon 9? 11th level of Factotum is a lot more important that Chameleon 10. Very good point. All the points/help is. Eternal Wand of Heroics... hmmm Thanks everyone |
| #6widowApr 05, 2008 23:57:06 | It really depends on your role, but seeing that you do a little of everything I would start with a +6 belt of magnifience and a +5 Int stat book. If you are going the way of the chameleon, I would pick up Boccob's blessed book, a ring of sustance, and the arcane bedroll from complete mage that lets you prepare spells with just one hour of sleep. I would also pick up a feycrafted, animated, +1 mithril large shield. The feycrafted template from the DMG2 will reduce the arcane spell failure by 5%, which will drop to 0% with mithril added in. The animated feature will allow you to wield a weapon and keep a hand open for casting. If you really want to change things up, the everchanging blade from the Underdark book is also fun. It can become any weapon in the game. Just remeber to reduce it's price because the sizing enchantment was moved from a +1 to a straight +5,000gp. These leaves enough space open to put the +2 skillful enchantment that makes you proficient with any weapon. Another option to mix in is the swordbow from Races of the Wild which allows you to shift from a bow to a melee weapon as a free action. Each half enchanted seperately, so you can mix with the everchanging blade. If you like just one weapon, Shadowstrike would be useful. Feycrafted glamoured, mithril shirt with twilight or the dragon mag mode casting armor (non-magic -5% arcane spell failure) would be useful. There is clothes in the Magic compendium that also change through up to 5 different forums, which will help your disguise. There is also a thread somewhere on here with Full plate armor with no spell failure and it counts as light. There is also a third eye in the magic compendium that lets you make one skill check a day at +5 and its counted as trained even if it is a trained only skill. Using Cha based skills? Try a captains hat or a circlet of persuation for a diverse skill boost. Well that is a start at least. |
| #7thogApr 06, 2008 5:24:15 | wow! Some great suggestions there. I've already started play on this character, and did go with the +6 belt of magnificence and +5 tome of understanding. I'd added monk's belt to the magnificence for an extra +6500gp (1.5 price modifier) but feytouched or twilight mithral could work as well, and save me taking the kung-fu genius feat. (carmendine monk requires membership in a specific order and is FR, kung-fu genius actually has a prereq of "cannot be a monk before taking this feat") I also have vestments of change (clothes that change to style and color on command, from races of Eberron, 500 gp) I like the everchanging blade idea - it fits with the multi-faceted role of the character. Not sure how useful skillful would be though, particularly at +2, since factotums are already proficient with all simple and martial weapons. Is it worth +2 to access the exotics? Perhaps, especially in a world that has the spiked chain... Boccob's blessed book, a ring of substance, and the arcane bedroll from complete mage What a lovely, lovely idea! |
| #8paradox-of-lifeApr 06, 2008 5:32:13 | It may not seem like much, but portable trees! Even in Epic, they are almost invaluable (given that you have adequate mobility). Blocking line of sight is pretty fing cool. |
| #9widowApr 06, 2008 9:45:44 | I glad I was helpful. I just reread my post and it is full of mispelling and wrong words. Ha, no more posting so late at night. |
| #10amadithegreatApr 06, 2008 9:50:59 | Why not Factotum 11/Chameleon 9? 11th level of Factotum is a lot more important that Chameleon 10. Because Chameleon 10 makes you ready for epic levels, meaning you can go Epic Chameleon. Factotum 11/Chameleon 9 can't. |
