In a little while two buddies and I will be starting an evil campaign, and I'd really like this to be a campaign to be remembered. The DM has given the other player and myself three PCs to play with, considering we're only three people playing. The important thing to keep in mind here is that I'd like functional characters, but not overpowered characters. The DM is new, and I'd like to be able to stay alive, and not beat the BBEG in one hit.

I posted this on the Character Development Boards as well, so that not only will I work mechanically, but I can roleplay these guys amazingly as well. But let's face it, those guys get nowhere near as much traffic, and well I'd like to see some responses in the development part too. You guys could post development ideas on this thread, or this one.

We're playing in Forgotten Realms, and any other campaign based material is not allowed, with exception to the Changeling race. Feats are allowed from other campaign sources. All books are allowed apart from that. We are starting this campaign at level 1, and I am unsure as to how long it's going to go for, but we're only three, so probably a while. Also, don't worry about the stats, the lowest stat I rolled on all three of my characters was a 13 (we're supposed to be the elite).

Character One
The first, and only, idea for a really sick and twisted evil character was based on Elijah Wood's role in Sin City, as well as the most famous Hannibal. A cannibal. A Changeling maybe?

This character is most likely going to be the party's skillmonkey, rogue type. I would like him to be smart, and creepy as hell. I'd like his intelligence to only add to how creepy he is, like Hannibal.

Mechanically, I'm going to be using some levels in Factotum, but apart from that I am not sure what exactly he'll be doing. Maybe an Iaijutsu Factotum/ Marshal/ Rogue with Flick of the Wrist, Mercurial Strike and Knowledge Devotion?

I have actually just started DM'ing an evil party myself, so I would be very interested to hear more about how your campaign is fleshing out.

I have chosen to let the players start out as only mildly evil so they themselves can develop there evilness - but they also starts at 1st level and I have pre-made the character stat-vise and the background story (3-4 pages each).
My point is: when making the character's story, don't forget to leave room for the (non-stat-vise)development - that's half the fun.

About your first char:
Maybe Changeling Factum/Warshaper could work? You loose a hell lot of skill-picks on the Warshaper levels, but you do gain some front-loaded combat-power.

The second one:
I don't know what level you will be starting at, but Warlock with the Frightful Blast for the first levels? Otherwise look at Imperious Command (DotU) more focused fear effect.
Character-vise I could see this go in many ways:
A Japanese Samurai that works fears as a way of fighting. Possible eagerly dominant also out of combat. Narrow-minded, hot-tempered and so on.
A gimp a bit like the "The bell-man from Notredame" (don't know the right English term for him), but with a strong dark side. The bullied boy that builds up a lot of anger and then release it when in a fight.

The third one:
Not a lot to go on here character wise.
Maybe a sad, tragic everliving man that have lost all joy in life and now just waits for the death that never comes. He have lost the ability to feel any pleasure himself and now lives out his dreams through others - manipulating them to do the things he can't.
He might not seem very evil, but that can come from his "dreams"...
I'm taking a lot of inspiration the old Vampire: The Masquerade feel, if you have ever hear about that.
Stat-vise: A necropolitain wizard focus on ether divination or enchantment, so he can spy and manipulate people.

And remember:
Evil people have plans and great visions!
It might seem odd, but the good guys in the DnD-storytelling life just don't have any goals besides "getting rid of evil" (to put it hard).
Having loooooong term visions and goals gives the game a lot - just put your main goal so far that it never happen but can always inspire your character, and then have more short-term goals/plans that you can go for.

About the names: Fiendish Codex II has some Devil-names at page 23, that might be worth something...

Do tell more!
