Dec 28, 2012 20:41:24 I'm currently building a epic level joystealer monk apostle of peace but a few things are left out of the descriptions. can anyone confirm if the joystealer gets charisma damage or drain from their touch attack? Does it count against the vow of peace since it's not being done by weapon or spell? And does the apostle of peace get to use magic items from something because their entry lists;
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Apostles of peace gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor.

As part of their sacred vows, apostles of peace forswear the use of armor, though they may wear magic items that protect them (such as a ring of protection or bracers of armor). An apostle of peace who wears any armor is unable to cast apostle of peace spells or use any of his supernatural class abilities while doing so and for 24 hours thereafter.

yet their vow of poverty requirement says they can't use any magic items. so, just a couple to start off with ^^;

Dec 28, 2012 21:14:26 Since it doesn't state that the "1d4 Cha" is "1d4 Cha drain", I'd have to assume that it's simply ability damage, though either way it would count against the Vow of Peace (the touch attack itself would presumably count as a natural weapon, and even without that, it is implied that harming isn't okay just because you don't use a weapon or spell, given the vow's mention of swallowing insects by accident).

As for the Apostle of Peace, I'm not aware of an official answer one way or another. My own take is that having Vow of Poverty in the prerequisites is simply a mistake; nothing in their description suggests that apostles of peace are usually ascetics, and a number of details in their class suggest against it, including the weapon and armour section you've quoted, as well as their use of divine magic (typically involving a holy symbol, which isn't one of the items allowed by the Vow of Poverty), and the presence of a number of spells on their personalized spell list that have expensive material components.

You'll really have to sort the Apostle of Peace out with your DM.

Vow of Peace also specifies ability damage as breaking the vow.
