Just a quick question. Do any of you expert min/maxers ever use 1 lvl of expert and the able learner feat to get whatever skills you want for class skills?

There isn't a whole lot of reason to use that with Factotum giving all skills as class skills. Other than not being able to take Factotum, due to DM restrictions.

Or, y'know. NOT WANTING to play a Factotum.

But Able Learner doesn't grant all skills as class skills - I think you're incorrectly paraphrasing what it does. It is awesome though.

Re: 22_over_7

You're right able learner doesn't give you all skills as class skills, but experts get to pick 10 skills as class skills, and if it's a class skill for one of your classes it's maximum ranks aren't affected by how many levels you have in that class. Able learner says you can get 1 rank for 1 skill point, regardless of whether it's a class skill for your current class or not :P

I'm fully aware of what Able Learner does, since I'm looking at it right now. Its not worth it to dip into Expert. Rogue + pretty much any other class will score you just about all the skills as class skills you'll ever want.

That's actually not the case. Two of the best skills in the game -- Autohypnosis and Iaijutsu Focus -- are extremely hard to get hold of besides Factotum and Exemplar. Factotum is the best Able Learner combo currently; Rogue is nice too, but Cunning Insight is useful in a lot more skill monkey builds than a lone sneak attack die. Throw in the aforementioned skills, proficiency with all simple and marital weapons, and an increased hit die, and it's hard to say that you SHOULD go Rogue. There are always exceptions, though.

I choose my words carefully.

Thanks Folks. I took another look at the factotum, and I see tsuyoshikentsu's point about cunning insight. I'm kinda new to this board, and optimizing in general, so thanks for being patient and giving me a hand
