| #1mervin_magnusJul 24, 2009 17:37:22 | My current build is a blasting character, andI was trying to pick which final feats to pick up... Current Feats (2 Flaws, 3 Bonus) Precocious Apprentice (early entry to prestige class) Iron Will Track (pre req for prestige class) Draconic Reservior (Kobold sorceror) Chain Spell Easy Metamagic (Chain) Empower Spell Easy Metamagic (Empower) Quicken Spell like ability Draconic Heritage (bonus) ??? ??? I am picking between another metamagic feat with easy, or extend and persist for incantrix cheese. I'm also considering Dragonwrought to abuse with polymorph/alter self; dragonwrought would still leave me with another feat... Of course if you have a better idea you are always welcome to post it. |
| #2BalthanonJul 24, 2009 19:38:16 | I would suggest a reserve feat for longer fights, or ones where it isn't worth wasting spell slots. |
| #3mervin_magnusJul 24, 2009 20:41:18 | i don't think a reserve feat would do much good here if you read my feat list you can figure out that I have a spell-like-ability the spell-like-ability is eldritch blast I don't think I'm going to need a reserve when I have eldritch blast around, it does 6d6, plus vitrolic, plus item (more than any reserve feat can hope to get) |
| #4zenoguJul 24, 2009 20:56:28 | ... what? ![]() |
| #5pyro_azerJul 24, 2009 20:59:58 | What is your exact combo of classes? |
| #6minneyarJul 24, 2009 21:15:42 | i don't think a reserve feat would do much good here Not really. Acidic Splatter gives you an orb of acid that does 1d6 per spell level, so if you keep an Acid Fog around, that's 6d6. You could Heighten your Acid Fog to make Acidic Splatter do more damage, but that would be kind of a silly reason to Heighten a spell. |
| #7mervin_magnusJul 24, 2009 21:46:01 | i was afraid that some of you guys would get confused with this... Here's the build: Dragonblood Sorceror 1/ Warlock 3/ Eldritch Thergue 10/ Incantrix 4/ Witch Hunter 2 (don't rant about the witch hunter, I already have to deal with that on another thread) This nuking build is shaped around imbuing spells into my eldritch blast, which activates contingencies (for even more initial damage) I was stuck with where to move forward in this build... Persist Cheese could help cover any potential weaknesses this character has, but not too much in flavor with the whole "I destroy everything" build. I already tried to cover my weaknesses with witch hunter, is persist necessary? Another Easy metamagic would fit the "destroy all" idea. (I'm using the easy feats to ease the pain of not having incantrix 10 ability) Dragonwrought would allow me loads of fun with polymorph and alter self "I alter myself to a red dragon and rampage the village." If I do take this feat, I am still leftover with another feat. Thanks to Witch Hunter, Force of Personality is no longer an "optimized" option. Damaging reserve feats doesn't match the power of eldritch blast, and I think the utility ones are less useful (and not as fitting for such a build) I can't prepare spells, so i can't heighten acid fog, or any other spell for the purpose of reserve feats. |
| #8mervin_magnusJul 25, 2009 6:59:18 | I know this is double post, but not only has it been several hours, but I hope more people see this because I posted (at top of threads list) Since I'm a sorceror, warlock, incantrix I was thinking either: Extend and Persist: for classic cheese OR (Insert Name of Metamagic feat here) and Easy Metamagic OR Dragonwrought (alter self!) and some other feat OR Something better that you guys come up with I'm open for anything! |
| #9BalthanonJul 25, 2009 10:03:08 | i don't think a reserve feat would do much good here As pointed out above, a reserve feat can outpace your eldritch blast in pure damage, but not by a great deal and with fewer options. That said, it wasn't immediately obvious that this was a new thread for the same character you posted awhile ago. If you have Dragon Magazine available, you might want to consider taking a bloodline feat-- that will expand your spell list, which is always useful. |
| #10minneyarJul 25, 2009 11:44:39 | Are you doing anything with your Eldritch Blast that gives a saving throw? Ability Focus (Eldritch Blast) is always a solid choice. |
| #11mervin_magnusJul 25, 2009 12:47:44 | As pointed out above, a reserve feat can outpace your eldritch blast in pure damage, but not by a great deal and with fewer options. That said, it wasn't immediately obvious that this was a new thread for the same character you posted awhile ago. My eldritch blast does 6d6, I get 2d6 from vitrolic, and 2d6 from chausable of fell power. Which is already 10d6, plus of extra damage from vitrolic. reserve feats MAX damage is 9d6 (i.e. 1d6 per spell level) NOW THAT RESERVE FEAT IS DEAD (for this build anyway) edit: sorry im talking about heritage, ill go look at the bloodline now I understand where you guys are coming at with the bloodline feats (sorcerors are limited), but this never presented itself as a real problem to me. The reason it never present itself as a problem to me is that I always spend 20,000 gold or so on eternal wands, which contains my self-buff spells, while normal progression focuses on the build's focus (in this case nuking). In this build, I have INVOCATIONS, which help me get some constant buffs as well (so versatality isn't really needed). I would have taken ability focus until i remembered why i picked out saves (instead of AC) for eldritch blast (i.e. cone). The plan was to use cone on those with high AC or low ref. So I asked myself, "why should I increase the DC on a spell that I'm only going to use only if I'm pretty sure they will fail the save?" I changed the build to metagic specialist instead of dragonblood sorceror: so no heritage feat. |
| #12necr0sJul 27, 2009 15:22:25 | My eldritch blast does 6d6, I get 2d6 from vitrolic, and 2d6 from chausable of fell power. Which is already 10d6, plus of extra damage from vitrolic. I'd like to point out something, just as a heads up before you may start calculating your EB damage incorrectly. VITRIOLIC BLAST Greater; 6th; Eldritch Essence. This eldritch essence invocation allows you to change your eldritch blast into a vitriolic blast. A vitriolic blast deals acid damage, and it is formed from conjured acid, making it different from other eldritch essences because it ignores spell resistance. Creatures struck by a vitriolic blast automatically take an extra 2d6 points of acid damage on following rounds. This acid damage persists for 1 round per fi ve class levels you have. For example, a 15th-level warlock deals 2d6 points of acid damage per round for 3 rounds after the initial vitriolic blast attack. So actually your eldritch blast would be doing 6d6+2d6(chausible)+any charges expended from items, and 2d6 acid damage on following rounds. 8d6 still isn't bad though. As a matter of fact I'm having a blast with my eldritch disciple and potshotting things with him between my clerical castings and turnings(lots of undead for me to play with this campaign). |
