| #1morbidangelApr 09, 2008 11:32:14 | Hello, 1st time posting here.. My char died (9th PC so far in our campaign, lol) so I am going to create a new one. I want to create CL 11 Human Transmuter 5/ Incantrix 6. My idea is to max Incantrix and then take Archmage. Prohibited schools are Evoc, Illusion and Ench. I need some help bout feat selection. I have 8 feats available to take, 2 more when i get next level. My idea is next: - Iron Will (prereq for Incantrix, can I retrain later?) - Skill Focus (Spellcraft) - prereq for AM - Spell Focus (Transmutation) - prereq for AM - Spell Focus (Necromancy) - prereq for AM - Extent Spell - Sculpt Spell - Quicken Spell - Metamagic School Focus (Transmutation) - at 12th lvl I thought to take Chain Spell (bonus MM from Inc) and Arcane Thesis (dunno which spell to apply on) My spellbook is based on Trans and Conj (Fogs, Wall of Stone, TP, Dimension Door), with some Necromancy (Fear and few other non-summoning spells). I have other party member who is Wizard (mostly blaster role o.O) so I will take some Necro/Abjur spells from him. My INT is +7, dex +4 and con +3. What do u think bout my selection, should I take different feats from ones I chosen? On which spell is the best to apply Arcane Thesis on? I thought on Disintegrate. Plz tell me ur opinion. Thx |

But it is hard to choose an other school. I would ditch necromancy even that Fear is devastating. But you can debuff with Transmutation/Conjuration fairly well. Levels: taking wizard 6 is not bad somewhere, instead of Archmage 5 for example (BAB, saves). Feats: can you retrain? When you get mastery of shaping, Sculpt spell will be a deadweight. Others look fine, but thoughts about Arcane thesis: Disintegrate: It is good to have but NOT with Chain spell, it won't be that effective with the +4 save/half damage (rather with Split ray, for example, but that is attainable for free with Incantatrix and Metamagic school focus). If you want to fuel Quicken spell with it, than just take Practical metamagic (Quicken s.), as Arcane thesis is optimal when you use it with more metamagic simultaneously. I think that retraining Iron will be problematic at best. |
| #3morbidangelApr 09, 2008 15:15:49 | Why would retraining Iron Will is going to be problematic? Will I lose levels or won't be able to take more Incantrix levels? I know that losing S.Evoc. is pain, and G. mirror image will give me some sort of concealment. But those are two spells. Contingency is good, but I am still fairly new to this game to be able to exploit it's potential maximally. I will lose Invisibility/Greater but I have Ring Of Invisibility which is better imo, especially as we are more often evading HU/fighter guards (DM likes to put us in dungeon w/o any reason).. But, like I said, I am new to this and I am kinda more familiar to necro spells. Is there any other rly good Illusion spell cept for those mentioned here? I also thought bout specialisating in Div so I can ditch only two schools, but I can't find good and (for me) usable Div spells. How bout going generalist? Spells are not problem as we have other wiz in party so we will take different spells and copy them in each other spellbook. Yes, I know mastery of shaping will overcome Sculpt spell, but i can take it at 16th level (if I don't take AM earlier), so I have like 5 levels to use it (bout 10 sessions in our case as we progress slowly due to bunch of inter conflicts, we have 7 PCs and none good, I will be 1st NG in party). I think Chain Spell is good mm feat, but atm I can't find good use to it (cept for maybe chain maximized enervation or vampiric touch for quick replenishing HP). Split ray is OK, but I don't think I will have so many rays to make Split Ray worth taking. |

Animalistic Power is really good for that feat, as it isn't a metamagic and applies to all Transmutation spells with those kind of benefits. Polymorph spells too, arguably. |
| #5bozwevialApr 09, 2008 15:49:29 | Why would retraining Iron Will is going to be problematic? Will I lose levels or won't be able to take more Incantrix levels? If you no longer meet the prerequisites for a class, you lose all abilities granted by that class and cannot advance in that class again until you qualify for it again. Same goes for feats: If you lose the prerequisites, you lose the use of the feat (and by extension, any others following that feat in a chain). |
